AutoCAD 2010 :: Getting 2D Projection Of Out-of-plane Sketch
May 21, 2013I have drawn a 2D sketch (of a wind turbine) and I found it easier to just rotate the drawings of the blades out of the plane of the drawing to get something that looks like an isometric view. So now some parts of my drawing are in plane, and other parts are turned out of plane by like 35 degrees, so looking at it from the top it looks like an isometric view of the turbine.
However, now I have a task to have the same drawing but with gradient filling in the turbine itself as well as the air and water in the background. The easiest way to do this would be to somehow get a 2D projection drawing of what I see when I look at the plane from the top. (see attached picture)
So what I need is to get what is called "Top View" in the picture with all lines being in-plane from the out-of-plane drawing shown on the right.
AutoCad 3D :: Creating Section Plane To Get Cross Section

My solid model is imported from IGES file format. I'd like to make a plane at specified location (perpendicular from the surface), and I'd like to have a cross sectional geometry cut by that plane. (attached pic.)
1. How can I make a plane following perpendicular line from the surface?
2. How can I export the cross sectional geometry?

May 12, 2012if i have one feature line i want to project to all sections in a sample line group it would seem you should be able to pick the one line and assign in a label style and you would be done quick and easy. instead if you pick the multiple projection option you get this percentage distance box and it tend to grab stuff you don't want.

Jul 2, 2013If you edit a section view sketch you can project model edges in the sketch and use them to constrain the section view line. However I cannot seem to project an included workplane to the sketch. For a particular application I really need to use a workplane because the model is actually a dummy that gets replaced by a vb macro. So any projected model edges will loose their reference.
I found out that I could use a sketch in the model to create the section view. In a model sketch it is possible to project work planes, so this looks like a good solution. However I do prefer the flexibility that you have when you use a drawing sketch.
How to use a work plane to constrain a section view, other then the model sketch method explained above.

Often I need to do pretty much complex view in which the same solid should be sectioned for half part of it and be solid for the rest. It is a common way to present solid draw but I can't do it with autocad 2013.

But how do I select the right orientation on import? The default Inventor view is a sideview and won't work on a plan.

I know there are the static methods of using slice graphics and section view however I'm looking to create a live section where I am able to constantly move the plane through the model thus altering the live section as it appears on screen, similar to the way a model can be viewed in Tekla with the cut section command.

May 28, 2013I copied photo folders from my hard drive to lightroom 4 and edited them but then accidentally removed these folders from lightroom. I then imported these folders again into lightroom but all the edits I made orginally in lightroom don't show up for the individual photo's.
I backed up the Lightroom catalogue regularily. Is there any way I can reattach these edits to their respective photos'. There is lot of photo's involved.

Aug 9, 2012I just ran into a projection issue with a couple of AutoCAD files. There is a possibility that one of the files was originally in Microstation and in meters before it was converted to AutoCAD but I'm still trying to confirm this now. The problem that I am running into is that AutoCAD Map doesn't allow you to xref or attach other CAD files and use different projections. I have one file in Maryland State Plane, Feet and a second one which appears to be in Meters and I can't get them to overlay or for the file in meters to come in at the right location when it is xrefed.

Aug 30, 2013We use Acad map 3d 2012 & civil 3d 2012. We also use Arcgis10.2 and have not seen this problem until one of our contractors (using map 3d 2013) sent us his drawings. When we bring in the map 2013 drawing Arcgis does not recognize the projection assigned to the drawing and our data ends up thousands of kilometres off in the distance. Am I missing something...it always works fine for 2012 drawings.

Jun 18, 2012I am having difficulty projecting an existing feature line at a specified tie-in slope. I have a steep (3:1) feature line that I need to project at a specific slope (2.5:1)to intersect a surface model. When I create the grading object the generated grading object is not 3:1 along the feature line and 2.5:1 perpendicular to the feature line. Instead I am left with a new slope that is 1.9:1 between the generated contours. I have attempted slope to surface as well as slope for a distance.My design criteria is to not exceed a 2.5:1 tie-in slope.

I don't have a plotter, but my Canon MP610 can print in poster mode where large drawings can be printed onto a grid of several A4's - e.g. 16 sheets of A4's arranged on a grid 4x4 - enough to print the biggest part of the chair scaled 1:1.

Sep 20, 2011I found this image in a textbook and it's supposed to be a three view first angle projection of the boat. It looks like main view is a plan view (top).
What confuses me about this is that the left view, looks like it's of the left side. But only third angle projections order views this way (left view being of the left side, top view being of the top, right view being of the right). So is this picture a first angle projection or a third angle? Or is it all together wrong?

I just want to create a section from the point cloud, but the point cloud won't allow me to select it as an object in the 'Generate 2D/3D section' dialogue as it's not a solid/surface.
On an unrelated note, I find snapping to the point cloud impossible - is there an option in OSNAP that I'm missing? I've tried this with attached PCGs and RCP point clouds, no difference.

Unfortunately, in a number of section views pipes are not shown in full height because the section view level range is too little. What I am wondering is - is it possible to automatically adjust section level ranges so that they fully include pipe sections? Please see also the image in the attachment.
