AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Grading Object Projection

Jun 18, 2012

I am having difficulty projecting an existing feature line at a specified tie-in slope.  I have a steep (3:1) feature line that I need to project at a specific slope (2.5:1)to intersect a surface model.  When I create the grading object the generated grading object is not 3:1 along the feature line and 2.5:1 perpendicular to the feature line.  Instead I am left with a new slope that is 1.9:1 between the generated contours.  I have attempted slope to surface as well as slope for a distance. My design criteria is to not exceed a 2.5:1 tie-in slope.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Projection Grading Create Segments On Parent Feature Line

Dec 12, 2013

When we apply surface projection gradings to feature lines, we get locked vertices on the feature line wherever the grading transitions from cut to fill. In turn these vertices create segments in the feature line which influence any labels applied to the line. I don't want a bazillion segment labels on my FL. I only want segment labels between the physical vertices and elevation points. Is there a workaround or is an enhancement request in order?

Is there a way to remove this issue or the grading will not create a lot of difference when computing the volume clacs ( we are talking volum computation roughly about a million cubic metres cutting).

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Grading Object Stability?

Mar 20, 2012

Has the grading objects become anymore stable than they are in '09? Unfortunately, our company hasn't been able to upgrade to a newer version and we are beginning to get to the point where 'hand grading' everything is taking too long. I am proficient in using the grading tools, but everytime I do, my drawing becomes corrupt. I want to push us to the newer versions if at all possible.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Grading Object Infill

Oct 9, 2013

I am creating a simple, and although it's large (100 million gallons), the grading object routine is relatively simple.  I have the inside crest of the berm and I'm grading down 40-50 feet.  Everything is fine until I infill the bottom of the basin and then the infill line around the perimeter of the bottom has two points that are way below the actual bottom, like another 100+ feet.  The two points are on opposite sides of the basin so obviously it throws off the whole resulting surface and causes earthwork calculations to be invalid.

I've tried various sizes and shapes, having the crest feature line both "open" (with a tiny gap) and "closed", straight and arc shapes for the crest, grading to elevation and to relative elevation, and probably more.  This problem seems to appear in each scenario.

I like the 'Extract" feature for surfaces, where I get get the contours or boundary of a surface in PL form without having to explode the surface. AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Force Grading Object To Polyline Boundary?

Mar 4, 2013

I am working on a complex industrial site.  And I would like a constant grade of 3.00% from my road intersections to the edge of curves.  I know if I used a corridor, I'd be able to tell the grading to project ot the edge of the road/curve.

I'm just wondering if I can tell a grading object to project to a polyline or feature line along a intersection curve?  There are many reasons as to why I'm not using corridors for this project, but I don't want to get into that.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Infill Grading VS Feature Line Grading

Dec 24, 2013

"An infill grading has no criteria applied to it. Any area bounded by feature lines or lot lines that is not already a grading can be converted to an infill grading."

So given an area enclosed by a feature line, an infill grading can be created. Using the same features line, an feature line grading can also be created. what is the difference between these two surfaces? They both have no criteria applied to them.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Projection Between Two Files

Aug 9, 2012

I just ran into a projection issue with a couple of AutoCAD files. There is a possibility that one of the files was originally in Microstation and in meters before it was converted to AutoCAD but I'm still trying to confirm this now.  The problem that I am running into is that AutoCAD Map doesn't allow you to xref or attach other CAD files and use  different projections. I have one file in Maryland State Plane, Feet and a second one which appears to be in Meters and I can't get them to overlay or for the file in meters to come in at the right location when it is xrefed.

My profile is a separate dwg with plan view xref'd and surface a data shortcut. Of course there are feature lines and Survey Figures in the existing top I want to project into the profile, but can't because it is an xref. Besides copying .

Maya Modeling :: Convert A Wrap Deformer To Be A UV Projection Object?

Apr 14, 2011

I'd like a more intuitive way to set up UV maps in Maya. It seems to me that there should be a process similar to using low polygon models as wrap deformers. Basically I figure that the low polygon would act as a projection wrap allowing for less UVs to adjust but enabling a very good flow of the texture map around any polygon, subdivision, and NURBS model of any complexity. Is there such a thing? If not, is there a way I can convert a wrap deformer to be a UV projection object?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Produce Projection On A Surface (from Polyline)?

Jan 30, 2012

I have started to use CIVIL3D 2007 instead of LAND-DESKTOP 3.

My question is: When I used LDD I created a surface, then drew a polyline and by right-clicking chose "Project object".

This option produced many new points along my polyline which I used for my design.

When I tried this with CIVIL 3D I couldn't find this option.

I can create a quick profile, however, this is not good for me because I need the data as a collection of points with coordinates & elevation, and not as an image.

Is there any way to produce a projection on a surface (from a polyline)?

Or getting some information from the quick profile in the way I need?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Grading Subdivisions

Oct 16, 2013

I am working with Civil 3D 2014, I played with 2009 back in 2008 and before that it was Land desktop.  I don't know if I am not following a standard workflow.

Build the EG from contours.Layout the CL for the ROW and convert to a horizontal alignments.Create the profiles.Design the vertical alignment in the profile.Create the assemblies for the different types of road sections.Full profile, pavement width assembly, the curb return assembly, the daylight left / right, 1/2 side left / right, and pavement width left / right.Build the corridor, set the target surface as EG or FG, depending on where the section of the corridor is located. (At the edge of the property to EG, then after the first building pad to FG)This is where I have a thought something is wrong. If I am grading the entire site, why would I have the ROW grade to the EG, when I will need the surface to grade from the ROW to the closest building pads?Create the intersections, using the different types of assemblies, per the ROW sections.Create feature lines and use elevation editor to set all the elevations around the pad.Using the Grading creation tool, grade to surface, using a 2:1 side slope. Then adding an infill to the pad.

I keep having the file crash after grading about 10 lots. I recover and it works find, but then the file runs very slow, and will crash. I haven't taken any classes in Civil 3d, and am looking for one in my area.

I am use to creating the vertical surface then creating points along the CL, TBC, FL, BOW then creating break lines along the points. Then create a break line for the pads, and build the FG contours from these break lines.
