I am drawing in 3D in autocad 2012 and are getting solidworks models from the client. I also have solidworks 2011 installed on my machine and was trying to import the solidworks models into autocad as 3D solids.
View 4 RepliesI have an assembly designed by somebody else in Inventor. I exported it as STP under Inventor 2013 and imported to SolidWorks 2012. It took over half a day. After the import, some of the objects became big spheres. Know what is going on? I then saved a sub-assembly from Inventor and imported to Solidworks. I tried to use Feature Recognition. However, SW reported that "FeatureWorks. Part contains overlapping solids. FeatureWorks can not proceed further." In the tree on the left, I see a list of Imported objects. I cannot even edit those objects. What is the best way to import design created in Inventor to SolidWorks anyway?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are working with a business partner who has been sending up Solidworks files to import into Inventor and up to today we've had no issues. We just got a bunch of files today and when we import them they appear to be empty. Can Inventor only import certain versions of SWX?
We do not know if our partner updated their SWX or not. We have tried various settings in the Options window and still the same result. I've attached a sample file. We are running the Autodesk Product Design Suite 2012 - Ultimate with Inventor SP1.
In the past (using Autocad 2007), I could copy my AutoCAD drawing and paste it into a sketch in Solidworks. Since my company updated to AutoCAD 2013, I can't seem to paste anything into the Solidworks sketch.

All the intelligence is wiped out. I know that Solidworks can import Inventor files and keep all of the intelligence in the file. Does Autodesk have translator software that will allow the import of a solidworks file and keep the intelligence used to build the model?

This can be done with Solidworks 2011 files but our vendor upgraded his software between the time he sent us test files to try the import and now. My colleague is able to import those files, in my case it always fails even though we are having the same files and the same version.
He has Windows 7, I have Windows 8.1.
When I import a STEP file or most recently a Solidworks part the assigned colors are replaced by the standard gray. Is there an option I'm missing to ensure the colors are retained? I am using Inventor Professional 2012.

how to scale life size models in AUTOCAD. I know that a draft should be in a 1:1 scale but lets say I want to draw a plane with exact dimensions measuring the wingspans. How would I set my limits in the command prompt to a specified area. I just don't quite understand the concept of how to calculate an accurate scale then plot the scale with a visible text/title scale upon printing.

If not, where might I find MDT 2005. I have looked everywhere and it seems to be non existant. It would be alot faster than rebuilding anew in inventor and engineers hate to redo something alredy done correctly.
I'm looking to import a model with materials. Is 3DS the only file format that will carry this along? That would suck for me cause my animator does not use Autodesk software. I have an obj with the material jpegs but can't seem to find find the proper wrap mode that makes it all come together. Maybe FBX is a better option.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHas anyone been able to successfully import a collada Model containing textures into Photoshop CS4? I've been trying to open collada models from google's 3D warehouse, and when I open them, I don't see anything. It's clear that Photoshop creates a 3D layer, but you don't see anything by default.
When I play around with the imported layer, it's clear that some of the 3D information is there. If I set the render mode to box, wireframe, or any of the settings that don't deal with textures, I can actually see something a rudimentary version of the model.
I actually tested importing a collada model in CS3 Extended at work, and it imported fine, showing the textures and everything. When using CS4, I get the problem described above.
I've actually seen this issue both on Mac and PC versions of CS4.
I am trying to get a decent workflow to get 3D models created in PDMS into 3DS max for animation.
I have taken an RVM file into navisworks and exported as an FBX and i have the model inside max but the viewport is so sluggish its impossible to work with. My model has around 40,000 seperate objects so is there any way i can get 3ds to interperate this better and make it more managable?
We are looking for a workflow example of developing casting models into machining models.
Typically our castings are made from different materials (Fig-1) and then machining (Fig-2) are created from these castings.
Is creating the casting as an iPart (with different materials) and then deriving the machining from the casting the proper method?
Doing it this way seems to force us into making a machining for each casting material instead of just one machining that is an iPart. How should this be set-up for BOM purposes and for use with Vault (Base Version)?
I’m using AutoCAD MAP 3D 2012. I’m trying to import a .mdb file. The text that I’m working from says because I’m working on a 64 bit machine I will have to download from Microsoft a file called Microsoft Access Database Engine and install the proper drivers. I’ve downloaded the file and run it and rebooted my machine but I still can’t bring in the .mdb file.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to import a .dxf file, with Waypoints, Waypoint Attributes, Tracks, Track Attributes, etc., from Garmin MapSource into AutoCAD 2012. I'm able to open the .dxf file in AutoCAD 2012 and visualize all of the points and attributes; however, when I attempt to select any item on the attribute layers, a Fatal Error Message is generated, reading: "FATAL ERROR: Unhandled e0434352h Exception at fd7ecacdh". The program issues this error and then automatically aborts after selecting "OK".
To be clear,I'm able to select the actual waypoints but never the attributes, which contain information relevant to the elevation of each point.
Any time the gateway scans a directory, which has a clip that has stereo audio, Smoke hangs. Is this a bug? Specifically the file was a Canon 7D file which had audio recorded with it. The crash does not happen when we try a file without audio or a file whose audio has been converted to mono. The file was directly from the camera. Same thing happens when it is a Prores HQ file with Stereo audio.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHave an open image in gimp 2.8 on suse 12.2, I call the "import palette" function, I set 64 colors, step 32, check the "from all layers" etc etc, and in the preview I see the 64 color palette I'd like. Looks good.
BUT: underneath the preview it says "the selected source contains no colors."And continuing the palette is indeed empty.

This has happened repeatedly for me, importing a slate with soft text from 2012 corrupts my default library. I get-
"The following bins are corrupted: Default Library Choose recover or hit the Enter key to try and recover a backup version of the bins."
Recovering fails and I'm forced to hit cancel which let's me into the project with my media gone.
I need to migrate 5000+ SW drawings files. Some have broken model references. I was hoping to use task scheduler but it produces empty DWG for any SW drawing that has a broken reference.
Now there is a feature in SW called QuickView that opens in the last saved state but doing so only allows to save to TIF.
I am trying to import a assembly from Solidworks. I start by selecting the file and then opening it. Autocad notifies me that the file is ready. I click on the path and it cancels out. I then try in insert the block and nothing. Is there a easier way to convert a assembly from Solidworks to Autocad?

View 0 Replies View RelatedRecieved dwg to modify that I think was originally made in Solidworks. In the drawing each projection and the isometric view appears in a separate cell that can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel independently of the other projections.
I want to be able to lock these cells if that's what they nare into only one 2D drawing so I can make the modifications.
When I try to scale the objects the item balloons and dimensions don't scale. When I try to copy w/ base point to another template, I only get the dimensions and item balloons. When I delete the border in the cell then the object is also deleted.

Solidworks has something called display states where you can change each component in an assembly to appear differently. For example; one part shaded another line edges without hidden lines, yet another showing the hidden lines along with the line edges. Then once these are set this can be brought into a drawing.

We are looking to switch from SW to Autodesk in order to utilize advanced surfacing in Alias, and its interoperability with Inventor. However, we need to continue to perform Kinimatic linkage studies as well using Inventor. I need to make sure we can perform the same calculations with ease before making the switch.
At this point I am trying to mimic in Inventor the kinimatic studies I perform in SW. In SW I would perform these studies within a single part file, using a single sketch only (no solid parts). Within this part file I would break up the total "travel" of the linkage into configurations that are driven by a "Design Table". The Design Table would be used for both the main driving value, and for any driven values I wanted to use for analysis.
I am trying to find a way to get the same driven variables written to an Excel file to use for analysis using Inventor.
As a test example:
I would like to drive one variable(Damper Length) to get ~20 different iParts, each with the linkage moved to a new point within its set range of motion. I then would like to write several Driven variables(Displacement_1-3 shown in "RULE CODE" attachement) from each iPart instance to an Excel file.
I have been able to get my 20 iParts and the linkage to move accordingly(iPART INSTANCES attachement), but I have not figured out how to write the driven data to excel for each iPart instance(20 rows of data, 3 columns). I have only been able to write the dimesions for one row of data...whichever iPart is currently open.
with the necessary iLogic code or another solution? It seems like this should be pretty straight forward. Do I need to be using the "ChangeRow" iPart Snippet?
I had a question as to whether or not there are any upgardes / improvements / options in any of the later Autodesk versions (2013, 2014) have the ability to convert 2D drawings from NX/Catia/Solidworks to Inventor. Is it possible to convert 2D drawings from these other software to extensions that are compatible with Autodesk software? I'm running an earlier version of Inventor on my machine but it seems as though even those at our other locations running Autodesk 2013/2014 are having trouble converting 2D files properly.
