AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing Solidworks Files
Mar 2, 2012We are working with a business partner who has been sending up Solidworks files to import into Inventor and up to today we've had no issues. We just got a bunch of files today and when we import them they appear to be empty. Can Inventor only import certain versions of SWX?
We do not know if our partner updated their SWX or not. We have tried various settings in the Options window and still the same result. I've attached a sample file. We are running the Autodesk Product Design Suite 2012 - Ultimate with Inventor SP1.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing Multiple Files From Solidworks - Translators?
Oct 26, 2011I have to import multiple files from Solidworks. I don't have any issues with that except that when I import these files they are base files. All the intelligence is wiped out. I know that Solidworks can import Inventor files and keep all of the intelligence in the file. Does Autodesk have translator software that will allow the import of a solidworks file and keep the intelligence used to build the model?

Nov 15, 2013I have different SLDPRT files I would like to import into AutoCAD Mechanical 2014 (it's a student version).
My colleague is able to import those files, in my case it always fails even though we are having the same files and the same version.
He has Windows 7, I have Windows 8.1.

Mar 29, 2013I have an assembly designed by somebody else in Inventor. I exported it as STP under Inventor 2013 and imported to SolidWorks 2012. It took over half a day. After the import, some of the objects became big spheres. Know what is going on? I then saved a sub-assembly from Inventor and imported to Solidworks. I tried to use Feature Recognition. However, SW reported that "FeatureWorks. Part contains overlapping solids. FeatureWorks can not proceed further." In the tree on the left, I see a list of Imported objects. I cannot even edit those objects. What is the best way to import design created in Inventor to SolidWorks anyway?

Sep 20, 2013I had a question as to whether or not there are any upgardes / improvements / options in any of the later Autodesk versions (2013, 2014) have the ability to convert 2D drawings from NX/Catia/Solidworks to Inventor. Is it possible to convert 2D drawings from these other software to extensions that are compatible with Autodesk software? I'm running an earlier version of Inventor on my machine but it seems as though even those at our other locations running Autodesk 2013/2014 are having trouble converting 2D files properly.

Aug 1, 2013I'm experiencing a strange behavior when i import a DXF with a plugin for AutoCAD 2012, but only when i'm on Win7 64bits.
The plugin normally (in WinXP) would load the .dxf file, then if it has a reference for an ortophoto picture, it places the picture on the right place and "visible" (you'll get what i mean by this later).
On the other hand, on win7 64bits when i import the dxf file using the plugin, it only shows the frame of the picture, but no picture inside!

But, if i close the file i just opened and open the .dxf using Autocad "default" open, on the layout the picture is showing just like it was supposed to...

So, now i've opened the .dxf using Autocad, let's try again to open it using the plugin and.... voilá! The picture is displayed, bright and shinny! A miracle i must say!

Jan 19, 2012I am trying to import a Polyface Mesh of a road plan to use in Terramodel. Terramodel handles .dwf and .dxf perfectly, but I seem to be having trouble preserving the elevations when importing. The polyface mesh imports in as polylines and without preserving the given elevations. I have used autocad in the past and have access to Autocad Civil 3d 2012 if need be.
Is there an import tool or command I am missing or unaware of that will allow the import to take place successfully?
AutoCAD 2010 :: Importing Layout From Template Not Working?
Oct 16, 2013So everytime I import a layout from my template, the scale comes out wrong. The border is way too big, viewport, and the stamp is also way to big. It's being scaled by approximately by 12.28 times.
Here's what I can share:
- both drawings are in inches in both files
- all that 'insunits' stuff is set to zero in both files
- 'measurement' and 'measureinit' is set to zero in both files
- using AutoCAD 2012
- xyz scale is all at 1.00
- the titleblock itself almost imports correctly, only some of my att text doesn't come out properly as well.
As far as i can tell it's the command 'from template' issue. Because when i cut and paste the templates layout contents, it comes out fine.

Feb 10, 2012I want to create a whole load of layers (approx 150) by importing them from a xls spreadsheet into my AutoCAD layer manager. How this is achieved without having to create each layer at a time by manual entry? Note that I created a .las file (attached as a .txt version) based upon exporting an existing set of layers to a .las file and then amending it. However, after saving the amended .las file it would not re import into the layer manager.

Sep 12, 2011I am trying to import DGN (Microstation) files in AutoCAD but it does not work. Initially, I had tried with ACAD version 2012 and subsequently tried versions 2011 and 2010. Neither worked.
I think I have read most of the threads relating to this topic, but none seem to address my case, which is:
I use dgnimport command, select the file and check the following options: Import in the current drawing, Ignore duplicate names, desgin model from DGN file "Default", translate references to blocks or xrefs, DGN units to convert to Master units, mapping setup "Standard". I click OK.
What happens next is... nothing. Well, not exactly. It does import layers, text styles, blocks, etc. But there is nothing (no drawing) in the model or paper spaces. And from previews and accompanying pdf files, there should be plenty of drawing objects in the file.
The only error log I can see from the text window is that four DGN line styles could not be resolved. But I am hesitant to think such a minor issue would cause the whole drawing to be missing.

It imports it successfully, but nothing appears on the screen. What are the steps necessary to make the point cloud visible? And is there a way to import several Model Space views at once so we can manipulate them independently in Cloudworx?
