i am trying to use autocad to nest parts for cutting on a cnc machine. is there any way to make a 2d part have a projected boundary of say .5 inches larger than the part so another part cannot nest closer than that. after the nesting is done, the boundary would be removed. the parts are different sizes and shapes so the projected boundary would have to enclose the part.

I need to cut some flat veneer using a laser machine, like making a jigsaw puzzle. The laser operator needs a drawing in the .dwg format.I will be drawing a 2d shape using a photograph in the background to copy.
I need to make the shape cut up into sections so I can assign a different bitmap to each section, at least for the design part of it. Since I'm more familiar with Max it'd be easier to do the design work there and export the file.
What I need is to make 2 or more closed spline objects that share adjacent lines so that each section has a surface that can accept an individual bitmap.

I have some parts that I need to make a nest for. I get the part from a customer and it's not in the most usable shape. It's just a bunch of surfaces. I can't change anything from it. I create a square block and place both the block and the part into an assembly. In the assembly I place the part in the block how I would like it to go. From there I create my whole mechanism around these nested parts. What I need to do is cut the shape of the part into the block so that I can bring the block into a CNC program and mill it.

I have a part that I get from a customer that is imported into Inventor. The part doesn't' come in as a solid, I can either bring it in as surfaces (thousands for them in fact) or as a composite. What I want to do is create a nest for the part to fit into on the machine I am building. I create a part thats nothing more than a block, bring the part and the block into an assembly and I place the part into the block where I want it to go. What I need is to be able to cut the contour of the part into the block. I use Mastercam for my milling programs and what I ultimately need is just the surfaces (the top surface of the block and the cutout surface).

Got a new computer. Copied and upgraded Photoshop CS2 to CS5. I would like to give the old computer to a family member or friend. Will they be able to use the CS2 on the old machine? (an iMac 10.6) or is that the end of that CS2?

Is there a way to cut a solid into two pieces using a non-planar cutting plane? I have been tasked with calculating the volume of concrete damage in a chute block. I have a sketch of the damage on the chute block. I created the chute block as a solid and then drew the damaged area extents using plines. This created non-planar plines. Is there a way to get this to work that will allow me to see the volume of the concrete damage? I need an easy way to do this, there are 50 chute blocks all the same size but with varying degrees of damage

I have downloaded an eps file, which I need to cut. I use a graphtec ce5000-60 cutter, and a plugin called cutting master 2 in order to use coreldraw.
when i select application launcher and choose cut / plot, it opens cutting master. when i do this, it only shows the 2 outer lines of the logo i need to cut. I have attached a screenshot so you can see exactly what I mean. I have tried lots of things to recitfy this, but as a complete beginner with this software, I really dont have a clue.

I have attached the block for reference. Now that I have found the error of my way with the annotative cutline. I have a slab-on-grade block that needs to have annotative hatches; I also need the cutline to be annotative and dynamic so that as the drawing scale changes the scale of the cutline will be match and I can adjust the length of the extension lines. I have made the cutline a nested annotative and dynamic block within the slab-on-grade block. When I insert the block into my drawing the cutline is annotative and the dynamic grips show up but they do not work.

I have a DXF file in Autocad LT which I need to import into a CAD Reader for a CNC machine. The cad reader can only view a 2D image of the TOP of the part. The problem is that the view I want the cad reader to see is the RIGHT hand side view in Autocad. Is it possible to reassign the views in Autocad LT 2008 so that the right hand side view become the top view therefore allowing the cad reader to see the correct side.

I am trying to figure out how to get autocad2014 and our company's cnc machine to communicate.
The machine uses Solid Ultimate with Screen-to-machine software.
From what ive gathered, I can save my drawing as a R12, R13, R14 version dxf file, which is what is needed for the two programs to talk to each other. The problem is, when i save the dxf file, it saves paper space, not model space. Therefore, all that comes into the cnc program is a titleblock or whatever else I had on the page in paper space.
The cnc program doesnt pick up viewports either.
I need a way to save model space as dxf.

I have one user on a Win 7 64-bit machine running 64-bit Autocad / ACA. I have written a routine that references the ACSMCOMPONENT library and I get an error that says the system can't find that library file. I have attached a screen shot for review.
All of my other machine are Windows XP and the .DLL that I wrote is located locally withe the ACSMCOMPONENT.dll in the same directory.
I have done some research and have concluded that I need a 64-bit version of the ACSMCOMPONENT.dll and I don't know where to get it or how to create it if possible.

These will be family table parts and assemblies but just to keep it simple for now lets look at non family table parts and assemblies. The attachment is a drawing of a casting, a machine part that is made from the casting and an assembly that uses the machine part.
The casting will have a drawing that has no BOM.The machine part will have a drawing that has a BOM that calls out the casting. The assembly will have a drawing that has a BOM that calls out the machine part.
In the models:
I would like to have an assembly and a machine part the is linked to the casting part so if the casting part changes the machine part and the assembly changes.
In the drawings:
I would like to be able to use existing iproperties or user defined ones and use one parts list style so I can create a drawing of the casting, create a drawing of the machine part where the bom calls out the casting description and part number and a drawing of the assembly that calls out the machine description and part number.

I am currently drawing some roof tiles for a house in 3d. I moved the tiles to another drawing so i could get my machine to focus on the tiles rather than walls, windows, doors etc. My machine is still lagging hectically. Basically i would like to know is there a way i can perhaps make the roof tiles file smaller or a "block" of it so that my machine can run properly and i can import it into the drawing with the rest of the house. The roof tiles drawing is 40.3mb big. My machine isn't inadequate-hopefully.
I am on a mac running vmware fusion with windows 7 32-bit and when opening editing the roof tiles file my cpu % spikes to roughly 70% then backs quickly down to 50% and will not increase with Autocad not responding-leave it for a bit and it loads but lags a bit when i orbit, copy or whateva then back to not responding.

I am running AutoCAD 2013 on Windows 7 on a virtual machine (Fusion) on my mac (Macbook Pro (late 2008), OS 10.6.8, 2.53 GHz, 8GB Ram.
I want to delete Fusion from my machine and use Bootcamp to run AutoCAD instead. Before I delete my virtual Windows machine and uninstall Fusion, I want to make sure that I have a copy of all supporting files for AutoCAD so that when I reinstall it in Bootcamp, I can restore all present functionality.
I am not very knowledgeable about AutoCAD or PCs in general, so I don't know what I don't know. In other words, I know that there are files that AutoCAD uses that I have created knowlingly or not that are important to be reinstalled so that the program continues to work how I am used to, but I don't know what all these files are, or where they are stored. The most obvious example are .ctb files that I have created over the past several years that have moved automatically with each upgrade. There are surely other aspects of customization that exist in files kept somewhere, that AutoCAD references, but again, I don't know where all such files are kept.
Any best method for gathering all such files so that I can copy them to a thumbdrive and then reinstall in Bootcamp, once I've re-installed AutoCAD?

create a G-code from an AutoCAD desktop 3D model of a 1911 pistal grip saved as a DXF file. I have a CNC 6040 3 axis routing machine. I have tried to load the DXF file as an import but the file is not recognized by the Mach3 software.
I have downloaded a lisp comand for my AutoiCAD program which is supposed to generate a G-code within Autocad but It doesnt recongnized some 3D elements. I am having a dificult time getting the generater to read a "mesh" 3D form to generate a G-code. I hope this doesnt sound all too confusing... the bottom line is I cant seem to get a G-code out of a 3D CAD form....way to generate smoothly a G-code from an AutoCAD 3D form?
