I would like to assign attributes to polylines so when I draw out a wiring diagram I can label the wire without having to type it out every time. I was thinking maybe a linked table or something not sure.
I have a drawing with a bunch of blocks. the blocks repeat themselves, but I need to define different attributes to each one of them and then being able to extraxt a list that I can read in excel.
Any routine that will allow to draw a polyline through existing blocks, in the order the blocks should be numbered? Therefore when the sequence has been specified by the polyline then user to define the number system required, and the blocks are automatically numbered in the sequence of the polyine start to finish.
I've set keyframes on the Glow Intensity attribute of an object so I can slowly reduce the intensity at certain points. Now I need to create a new expression to give a random flickering to the glowing object as the scene plays, until the glow finally dims out.
But when I select Glow Intensity and try to create the Expression, there is no option now to 'Create New Expression'. The other options are still there, but it seems that at the top I'm left with an option relating to the Animation Curve Attributes (animCurveTU..?)
Is there no way to add a rand() expression to give some flickering to the Glow Intensity if I also have a few keyframes set that slowly dim the overall intensity level? Surely not.
I've tried to manually create the expression in the Expression Editor, but when I have to type in the name of the attribute, it hangs the whole program and I have to kill Maya and restart. Either it will not work that way or I'm missing something.
Maybe another way get the flickering short of manually keyframing the intensity level for the entire sequence.
Running a Query that inserts a block with attributes filled with text derived from a file that has a large set of polylines with object data (text)? Is it easier just to insert this object data as text with a query. Or can I place this object data (text) into a block that inserts?
Example:
- You have land locations defined within the object data assigned to a set of closed polylines. (Large subdivision) - Field name for object data on each closed polyline is "LAND_LOC" - Now, I'd like to label these locations with a block that inserts to a central point within the closed polyline. - Block Attributes with "get" the information from the polyline / object data and place this value in the block attribute. - I have 1 drawing file that has closed polylines with object data assigned to them. - What is the best method for this? I'd like a block with attributes to insert and pull the object data / field and place it into the block with a defined attribute, that is central to each of the closed polylines. (LAND_LOC)
As the above mentioned, I have a drawing drawn using polylines with width from someone. The width of the line are suppose to represent area,
To put things into prospective, here is an example:
The polyline is 10 unit long and with a width of 2 unit wide. If i explode that polyline, it will become a single polyline without width. The line are suppose to represent 10 unit long and 2 unit wide; representing an area.
My question is is there a way to change the line above directly from polyline with width to a close polyline (4 x polylines) of 10 unit long and 2 unit wide.
Is there a way of converting 3d polylines to polylines with an elevation?
I have a dwg of contour information, the contours are 3d polylines, because they are contours the z value is constant all along the line, so there no question what the elevation of the polyline would need to be.
I need to do this as I then need to import the dwg into a GIS programme called MapInfo whch doesn't read 3d polylines.
I'm working on setting up a process where I can bring AutoCAD drawings into GIS. I need to assign an attribute to a Polyline or Line so that the attributes can be viewed in GIS. I've noticed there is a way to convert AutoCAD to a SHP or SDP however I'm not familiar with this process.
1. Create a layer that is Color 250. 2. Create a Plot Style that can have the true color 255,255,255 set.
It seems I can only use the 255 default AutoCAD index color palette. I would like to have some solid filled hatches to be the physical color 250 in the drawing, but I want these objects on a layer that plots the true color 255,255,255. The reason, is because I want to use these solid filled hatches as a mask. I'm not going to use that as an alternative.
I just don't want these solid filled hatches to be white. I can live with it, and it's working fantastic for the use I need but am just trying to see if this option is available.
How do I assign the blocks coming in from Architect's drawing (Partition Panels - about 50+ styles and each style is a different block) to a different layer along with those layer properties without having to explode & re-define?
I want to keep them as blocks but for uploading to a IWMS system which will only recognize certain layer names. They are changing over to the layer name I select, but their properties are not (example: color)
Specifically to Subassembly.LinkWidthAndSlope / I only have Top or Datum options for that sub and if I assign either one in the code set it seems to overwrite all the other subassembly materials such as asphalt, curbs etc...with none set my realisic view has a gap between the back of curb and slope to existing.

I need som code to assigning a material to a part in VBA.
Dim oApp As Inventor.Application Set oApp = ThisApplication Dim oDoc As PartDocument Set oDoc = oApp.ActiveDocument Dim oPropsets As PropertySets Set oPropsets = oDoc.PropertySets Dim Mat As String
An older gentleman at our company is very much used to having F12 as endpoint, F11 as intersection and F10 as dist. Now that I've upgraded him to 2011, his life is pretty much ruined.
No matter what I try, I can't get the temporary override buttons to work. F10 always does POLAR, F11 always does OTRACK and F12 always does DYN.
How can I kill AutoCAD's default behavior and implement what he wants done?
A company I used to work for had a custom set of dimensioning tools in the tool palettes. We had issues with people dimensioning on the wrong layers and they included an instruction(?) in these custom commands to dimension using the correct layer i.e. current layer set to 'Border', select custom linear dim command and dim is drawn in 'Dimension' layer.
My question is, what to add to the macro in the properties when creating such a command button to do this? ^C^C_dimlinear <add something here to use a specific layer?>
I have box. After assign material it's still box. But after assign different material to some faces, box become 3d body and I can't simple look and change it's size in properties.
How to assign different materials to different faces and box still remain box.
If it is impossible, could I look gizmo size? I need to control sizes of all objects with easy way without annotate.
If I have a drawing scale set up as 1"=30' and I created some profiles at that scale, and then I need to create a profile at 1"=40' horiz and 1"=4' vert., what is the best way to do that? I believe in the past I tried changing the drawing scale under settings to 1"=40' one time and all of the profiles in the drawing changed to that same scale even though they were drawn at 1"=30', which I want to stay that way.
I think I can leave the drawing settings to 1"=30 and then just assign the scale in the viewport to 1"=40', but then all of the text sizes in the profile view style will adjust according to the scale I use, which will either increase or decrease according to the scale I pick. I would like to keep the profile view style consistent no matter what scale I pick.
I want to programmatically assign Targets to subassembly of baseline Regions but I could not Success in that here it is the code
Corridor corridor = ts.GetObject(icor.ObjectId, OpenMode.ForWrite) as Corridor; foreach (Baseline b in corridor.Baselines) { al = ts.GetObject(b.AlignmentId, OpenMode.ForWrite) as Alignment; foreach (BaselineRegion br in b.BaselineRegions) { double st = [code]........
Is it possible to assign easting & northing coordinates(gps coordinates) to origin or any other point in drawing so that i can find the others with respect to that?
I have a leader that I want to make the line part of thicker (already made the leader arrow head bigger). I saw that it appeared to be based on dimension style, and I tried changing the lien thickness in there although as we use color dependent plot files, not line weight dependent plot styles, this had no effect.
I would love for the day that ADSK allows users to assign materials to faces and surfaces at the assembly level. I know this can be done at the part level but this practice has it's flaws when trying to have an accurate BOM and Parts List as well as other "issues" when using that method.
Take a plated part for example. At my company our structure of a plated part would look something like this:
raw material - machined part - plated part. I'm sure it;s the same at many other manufacturing companies.
Typically we will have a material spec sheet for the raw material. We will have an IPT and INV dwg of the machined part file. We then place the machine part (IPT) into an IAM to become the plated part. We do this workflow because if we chance any geometry to the child (machined part) it will update and reflect a tthe parent IAM level (plated part). This also keeps out parts list and BOM structure in-line with our MRP system. So this workflow works great for us.
However there is an issue doing it that way. Inventor doesn't allow to assign materials to faces at the assembly level which seems just wrong to me. I kind of understand why they did that but it sure would be nice to be able to assign materials to faces in IAM files. Yes I know I could acheive this by using Derived Component but then my parts list and BOM structure does not reflect the base part. It only reflects the Derived part in my Parts List. Is there a way I'm missing to alter or change the Parts List to pull info of title, part number, etc of the base part rather than the Derived?
Ideally I'd just love for one day INV to allow material assignment to faces and surfaces in the assembly level. It looks rather strange on our drawings where we do a section view of the top l;evel assembly and see parts that are technically made of brass but look to be made of chrome or zinc plating instead because of how we had to assign material to the entire body of the component at the assembly level.
I typically need to download iges, step files for assemblies and would like to assign their actual weights to the respective parts. These weights are typically not in the iproperties because they are just surfaces.
how to assign specific weights to the general properties in the iproperties box?
Is it possible to use a custom properties within part builder to calculate pipe sizes?
Within part builder I have created a new parametric part under the rectangular pipe chapter.
This new parametric will represent a electrical conduit ductbank that will vary in size depending on the number of conduits in the ductbank. For example a 2 x 3 ductbank would have 2 columns and 3 rows of a 3" conduit. So the width and height of the rectangualr duct bank would be calculated this configuration. I will have up to 12 rows and coluimns in a single ductbank, so I might have a 10x10, 3x12, 12x 1, etc.
I have a custom pipes catalog and within the AeccPartParamCfg.xml I have created 2 custom propertes named ROWS & COLUMNS.
My question is can this custom property be used to calculate the the height & width on the rectangular pipe within part builder? Once I draw my pipe I would like the ability to edit ROWS & COLUMNS within the Pipes Properties to change its size. is this possible? See image below.
I'm trying to import a GPS coordinate file where our Surveyor has used both Points Names (Alpha-Numeric) and Point Numbers. see below. I have setup a Point File Format for Pname, North, East, Elev and RAW Description, to import this comma separated point file. The problem is that Civil 3D does not want to seem to use a numeric point name as a Point Number, instead the number is used as a Point name and Civil 3D assigns a Point number from the next availible point number. Is it possible to automatically, when the Point Name is a numer only to also assign it the same value as the Point Names?
I would really want Civil 3D to allow users to use Both, Point Names without assigning a Point number.
