There are several ways a user can set the scale of a paper space layout viewport.

I have a problem that I cannot seem to solve. I have a drawings with a whole bunch of layout tabs that have a few viewports in each tab. One of these viewports on each layout tab is on the layer VIEWPORT. I did this so it would be easy to filter out the other viewports in the drawings. I am using the code below to change all of the viewports with the layer VIEWPORT to the Custom Scale 0.020833. This works for all of the layout tabs except the first tab. It will not for some odd reason work on the fist tab.
(setq vieportfilter (list (cons 0 "VIEWPORT")))
(setq ssetvp (ssget "x" vieportfilter))
(setq cntrp 0)
(while (< cntrp (sslength ssetvp))

Whenever I've done some drawings, in 1:1 and I want to get it from the viewport and out of the software the scales won't fit. For instance I'm right now having a part of a drawing being 20cm in 1:1, but whenever I set the viewport scale to 1:20 it makes this 20cm long element 15 cm'ish long.
All units are set to millimeter.

Im trying to keep annotative blocks in the same spot on different scale viewports. The main issue Im having is, when i have a lets say house plan in viewport #1 and have all my blocks in place that I moved copyed from my template. When I open another viewport at a diffrent scale the blocks move. Im useing a large number of blocks for electrical symbols we use at work that I need to be in every viewport so we can copy them and place them where needed on the plan.

In modelspace, architectural schematic plans sections elevations which, when viewported into paperspace drawings, are scaled to 1:100. I therefore work in modelspace with Current object scale = 1, global scale factor = 100. This makes dashed lines etc reproduce at legible scale in a drawing at 1:100.
What about when I move on to details, which in paperspace are scaled to 1:5? At present I start a new file with Current object scale = 1, global scale factor = 5. This makes dashed lines etc reproduce at legible scale in a drawing at 1:5.
Isn't there a way to achieve this, while keeping both the schematic and the detail drawings in modelspace on the same, single file?
Even the above system fails when I want to scale one elevation of the schematics at 1:50, or foundation details at 1:10.

I am rebuilding the entire back porch.
I would like to set the scale so i can visually see where my joists , hangers , tiers, etc go.
How do i set an accurate scale for a drawing such as this?
Setting Scale .porch.dwg
THIS DRAFT is most certainly NOT TO SCALE.
As usual, i am NOT sure i am asking the right question.
I am trying to use the smallest of the squares in GRID to equal "X" amount of inches so the entire drawing will fit. I do NOT need to use grid if it there is an easier way. No contractor...I am the only one using this and its just to make my initial materials list and get a picture of how things will go....

Is there a way to print out the exact scale just like using manual printing or I just can use
// a 1 inch: 2 units scaleacPlSetVdr.SetStdScale(acPlSet, 0.5);// a 2 inches: 1 unit scaleacPlSetVdr.SetStdScale(acPlSet, 2);
By the way, setting for example (acPlSetVdr.SetStdScale(acPlSet, 2.04);
I get eInvalidInput error.

I can read a view scale with:
BaseViewScale = oDoc.Sheets.Item(1).DrawingViews.Item(1).Scale
But When I try to use the following line to change the scale, I get a compile error.
oDoc.Sheets.Item(1).DrawingViews.Item(1).Scale = BaseViewScale

My viewport scale list only has metric and I would like to add a list of imperial scales for general use. So far I can only add, through Annotation Scaling panel and Scale list for an individual drawing so once it is closed I lose the scales.
how do I list my imperial scales permanently for use throughout the program.
I'm on Autocad 2010.

I am using version B.219.3 (UNICODE) of Autocad Civil3d 2008 with service pack 2 loaded.
I am putting together some plan and profile sheets for a civil roadway job.
The annotation scale setting of the text in the profile xref and alignment xref is being ignored in the sheet file viewports. This text should be appearing at 1:40 scale, automatically, same as the viewport scale, but they are appearing very small instead. According to the way annotation scale is supposed to work in Autocad2008, this annotation should be appearing at the correct scale, automatically.
If I try to adjust the annotation scale to a ratio I think will work, it automatically adjusts the viewport scale to match whatever I enter for an annotation scale. What to try next.
Can files become corrupted in AutoCAD? If so, are there utilities to repair corrupt AutoCAD files?

AutoCAD to draw various drawings, my issue to set scale.
1. what are the procedures of setting scale in modal space? say if is 1:1 then how to make 1:2 or how to recognize if someone has set a scale say 1:20 in modal space so that you return it to 1:1?....( here i need the procedures)
2. what is different among the following, one using mm, another using cm and the third one using m when drawing in modal space, do these people face different if they decide to use the same scale in layout to print? say if they us 1:50xp, what will happen, in their output.

I set up a new page thus (I live in a country which uses metric units, so ...):
Drawing Units Setting18-07-2013 9-24-06 AM.jpg
Then:
Command: '_limits
Reset Model space limits:
Specify lower left corner or [ON/OFF] <0.0000,0.0000>: 0.00,0.00
Specify upper right corner <3.5000,2.7000>: 3.65,2.74
Command: C
CIRCLE
Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: 1000,1000
Specify radius of circle or [Diameter]: 250
Command:
and I get:
Range Problem 18-07-2013 9-36-57 AM.jpg
The circle was centred at x=1000 metres, y=1000 metres, yet it displays right down at the bottom left of my screen. Compare the radius of the circle to the distance from the centre to the origin - it's nothing like 1:4! Look at the coordinates for the cursor!
Zooming in and zooming out has no effect on the huge dimensions indicated by the coordinates.
I know this must be simple because it is not mentioned in any textbook or tutorial I have been able to find. Authors don't seem to think it is important, but it's driving me nuts! The question is this:
How do I set the page size and grid scale to something sane?
I am pretty sure that this scale problem is at the root of many of the other problems I am having. A14 is doing it's job faithfully but the display is so small that I cannot see what is happening !

I want to create a scaled drawing. I make geologic cross sections with drill holes that are 500 to 1000' deep. I would like to set the drawing scale to something like 1"=250'. So a 1000 foot drill hole would be a line 4 inches long on the screen. I have gone to the Drawing Scale List and figured out how to create a new scale, but nothing I try allows me to change the drawing scale from 1:1. I can edit the list, but I can't change the 1:1 default.
I have tried right clicking, double clicking etc. It seems that the drawing area stays at the original 1:1 scale. What am I doing wrong? I want to make a drawing where I can give the Line command the coordinates 250,0 and it draws a vertical line 1 inch long.

Just wondering what the best way is to set-up my units and scale preferences in 3dsmax. I would like to have my units in mm or cm so that when I import an object with known and precise measurements, it will stay consistent in 3ds max. So that I can visualize the objects in the correct scale and make measurements with the right numbers.
Of course I dont want to mess with results ofmy textures, animation, camera and anything else in 3ds max and would want to have everything behave normally if my units were in cm or mm in stead of the default.

I have a lot of sheet DWGs with a single layout in each. The layouts have several viewports into model space.
Is there a way to export out the layout tab where the viewport contents have been converted and placed into the layout space?
Ideally, I'm hoping to basically convert the viewport heavy paperspace into a dumb model space layout.

The code I'm using is supposed to go through all of the layouts and freeze the specified layer in the single viewport that is defined on that layout. It works for some viewports, but not for others. A "List" of the objects show the viewports are the same. I have a LiSP routine that gets me more info about selected objects. The first is a viewport that does not freeze the specified layer, the second does freeze the layer. Here is the code I'm using:
Public Sub FreezeNewLayerInVPs(ByVal pageNumber) Dim doc As Document = Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocumentDim db As Database = doc.Database Dim layerToFreeze As String = "DETAIL_" & pageNumber Using tr As Transaction = db.TransactionManager. Best practices for setting up systems in a lab environment. We have a lab enviroment of about 200 systems that access AutoCad, Inventor, Mechanical and others.
We need to have a customized interface come up when Autocad is opened by students.I have read that you can do this with profiles and workspaces and also with loading a acad.lsp file.
In the past we have just copied the Windows admin profile used to customize AutoCad to the default profile. In AutoCad 2013 that does not seem to grab everything. It doesn't seem to be the best way to do what we need.
We will also be moving to Windows 7 soon which will also cause an issue.I want to find the best way to do this with out having to deal with the Windows profile.

I have just updated to Autocad 2013. While working on existing drawings (previously created in V2012), I am having issues with the SCALE command. Most times, but not always, when I add a line or block, with a base point on an existing line or object and try to scale it, I get an "extremely small scale factor ignored" message, although I did not get a chance to enter a scale factor. While it appears most times, but not always, if I draw a new line in empty space on that same drawing, I am able to use the SCALE command without problems. I also have the same issue when trying to scale an existing line or block, most times but not always.
Here is a copy of the command line while I am trying to make it work:
Command: l
LINE
Specify first point:
Specify next point or [Undo]: 100
Specify next point or [Undo]:
Command: sc
SCALE
Select objects: 1 found
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.
Command:
SCALE
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found, 2 total
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.
If you notice, it does not give me the chance to enter a scale factor. As soon as I pick the base point, it skips over to the error message, yet displays the scale factor prompt with a blank factor. I'm experiencing this issue on various files (not all but most), so I don't think it is a corrupt file. Why I get this and if I can correct it?

am in the process of setting up a standard file for all designers to use our local office. This file will have most of the styles created for profiles, alignments, surfaces, profile views, etc... as mostly specified by the customer and industry standards.
I am having trouble maintaining the correct annotation scale in the viewport in paperspace and when plotting.
The attached word document has 3 figures. Fig 1 shows the correct viewport scale and correct annotation scale. Fig 2 shows how the annotation scale abruptly changes during the plotting process. This abrupt annotation scale change sometimes happens during the regen process or when I switch from layout to model space and back to layout. The annotation scale goes from 1:1 to 1:40 just as in the viewport. This change in annotation scale is not supposed to happen because I want to preserve a certain plotting height for my text versus a viewport scale by using various annotation scales.
I have researched the procedures for annotation scale and have not found any info related to this "abrupt change in annotation scale".
Curiously , this abrupt change in annotation scale does not happen if the text does not belong to any styles within Civil 3D. Stand alone text stays at the correct annotation scale and is not affected in the same way.
