I've seen that its possible to have multiple drop-down arrows (lookup/visibility states) within 1 block. How do I do that? I am redoing my title block & would find this extremely handy for all the different options I want to select.

I have created a dynamic block to handle the vector data (a simple arrow with a stretch and rotate controls)
What I need now is to somehow read in the values for each block from an excel spreadsheet or txt file?

Sometimes when I plot/publish a DWF or PDF the arrows extend past the extension lines. I need the point of my arrows always end at the extension line?

When I expode or burst them, the dims text and arrows grow larger than is required for the block and I cannot find any adjustment in the properties to bring them back to the correct size for the detail. Also the leaders lose their point and association with their text and become just a line.
Is there a command that will allow me to edit the block without loosing the current sizing and associations?
I need to match few attribute values from one block to different block. I download a lisp file called; ca.lsp which can match the single attribute value. I modified it for more than one attribute value matching. It is ok but still wish to overcome two issues for batch prcess
1. picking up the blocks by selection
2. click the alternative block numbers of times to match the numbers of attribute values I needed.
How to modify this lisp I can run it by block name selections instead of picking selection which enable me to run batch process for numbers of drawing? That will be good...

I have created a generic title block for all my drawings and I have some attributes for the block. Is it possible to have a drop down list for an attribute so I do not have to type in the value/text each time? If so, how?
I want to be able click on 'customer 1' or customer 2' ect. and not have to type it in the attribute.

i was wondering if it's possible to change the default precision of values in the drop down menu for linear parameters when using a block properties table from 4 digits to 0.
See attached file, when opening the dropdown menu, the centre-to-centre widths of the chair are displayed in a value with 4 digits "behind the comma" and i would like that to be 0.
I was working on a dynamic block and visibility states, but for uknown reason I don't see the visibility drop down on the block editor toolbar.
Is there a way to turn it on. I am using AutoCad 2010.

I want to do a simple thing : drop ortho-photo on surface generated from contour line.
First thing, I need the basic terrain. I did import my contour line in a new draw, using the import map feature. I then saved the draw under the name " topo ". At this point, the contour line are 2D break line with no elevation.
I then opened a new draw to which I did associate my draw " topo ". Then I used a query to modify the elevation of the line using the attribute " contour " in my table, thus resulting in my breakline to become 3-D. It works fine. Then I save the new draw as " 3D_Topo ". I then get a warning :
" The association between objects interogated in the current drawing and associated will be deleted once the current document of the draw is closed " (I made the translation from french to english, in french it stated like this : " L'association entre des objets interrogés dans des dessins courants et associés sera supprimée une fois le fichier de dessin courant fermé. " ).
Well question #1 : What does this warning mean / imply ?
Then, I have those .ecw files as ortho photo which I want to import. So I use the function " connect " with raster image, then I select my file, then I " add to draw ".... then something very strange happens.
Sometime, the image appears correctly...and some other times I get nothing and I get this " disconnected " message in the task pane ..and no matter how many time I actually connect again the .ecw files, it will not happen in the draw ! Then I simply close the draw, start map 3D again, then I do the exact same thing, and sometime it works, sometime it doesn't.
Question #2 : any clue on why the .ecw files sometime works, sometime doesn't?
Now, let's assume I finally made it to connect correctly and that Map3d didn't crash whilst I was doing it (because I don't know for you, but here, it does happens quit often), I now have (as shows in the picture I attached) two thing. A surface made (well, I went back in the civil 3-D module to make the actual surface from the breakline definition) with the contour line and a imported image. I now want to drap the image on my surface! So I use the option " drap " which is in the surfaces option (in the ribbon surface tools)... well it looks nice since it propose me to use the surface I made up with the contour line as the base and the imported .ecw files as the file to be draped upon. So I simply do that and.... well...nothing happens! My image isn't draped at all, it stays there,
Question #3 : How should I proceed to actually drap my image over my surface ?
Question #4 : Considering I made it to drap the surface, how can I save this new draw independently of the attached other draw or database?
When I drag and drop psd file from Bridge on open document it ends up in the document as smart object. When I drag and drop psd file from Bridge on the toolbar it opens the file with all the layers.
I know that I can access the layer by double-clicking on smart object. I know that I can drag and drop multiple layers from one file into another.
But I have limited use of any of the above functionality (except as intermediate step) - what I need is to drag and drop all the layers from one psd file into another right from Bridge, without opening the file first, is there a way to do it?
I want to take an image and create a seamless pattern repeat. (to use for fabric/wallpaper printing) can I do this with PAINT.net?

In the right Mouse click drop down window the Paste, Paste as Block and the Paste to Original Coordinates are grayed out.
The copy with Base Point works, as does the Ctrl+V and Ctrl+Shift+V and repeat Paste Block from the recent Input drop down selection. Why the paste commands are grayed out?
I have a drawing that has about 450 identical instances of a block. The block has visibility options to show different things. I don't want to edit the block as there isn't anything wrong with it.
What i need to is update the blocks all together to change visibilities.
I'm trying to import a a custom titleblock into each existing layout from a dwg. So far, i've been successful in importing this block into the first layout but can't seem to figure how to bring it into the remaining. I have a command that runs before this one that allows the user to define how many layouts should exist, so for instance, if a user opts to create 7 layouts, once they import this titleblock, i'd like it to appear in all 7 layouts. So far this is what i've got.

I have several architects who use VectorWorks that then export their electrical to me in a dwg format. I then use a program that makes intelligent devices from their blocks. The problem is that if there are 300 receptacles that are exactly the same, there is be 300 different block names for then such as group_205-1. In the past I just individually insert my intelligent block over each one of their blocks. But Now I am wondering if there is a way to select all the blocks and give them the same name and not have them all disappear because autocad sees them as duplicates.
I tried block replace, but it is one at a time and it gets rid of the old block. I then downloaded a trial of mblockreplace.vlx. However, it seems to also make all the blocks disappear. How to give the blocks the same name in a multi-select fashion without them all disappearing afterwards?
I have amended our drawing frame (a block) in our templates so I now have a set of 82 I need to amend the frame in. So is there a easy way of redefining a block in a number of drawings or do I just do each drawing separate ?

Traditionally to represent a computer on a drawing we would place two blocks, one would be the computer symbol itself, and one would be a unique reference (that we could attribute extract) directly above it. These two blocks, the symbol and the reference, would go onto their own two individual layers in the final drawing so that we could control the visibility and the color of both the symbols and the references individually. The layers, for example, would be called:
Computer Symbols
Computer References
Both of these blocks would be drawn in BEDIT on Layer 0, such that they take the properties of the layer that they are eventually inserted on.
I'm looking to combine the two blocks into one, but would still like the individual layer control. Is there a way I can combine the two blocks while still maintaining this individual layer control? I'm thinking that I'd have to draw the symbols and references on the above layers as opposed to Layer 0 in BEDIT, and then my 'new block' will probably have to go on a new 'total' layer like:
Computers
Computer Symbols
Computer References
So then I'd insert my 'symbols+references' block onto the 'Computers' layer. I don't really like this idea too much because it seems like I'm over complicating things (highly likely!). I guess what I'm really after is a 'symbol+references' block that moves as a group, but I can control in my traditional two layer approach.

I have a large symbols library and need to have 1 block name and count but be able to show them in different colours depending on where they are placed. (eg pink block at low level and green at high level, but when counted by block name it counts 2 not 1 green 1 pink).
I am trying to put something together that will allow a user to select objects in AutoCAD and then place a block at all the selected points.
Below I have pasted the code that I have so far, but have not been able to test this to see what happens because the Dim ofd part is giving me an error that I have not been able to figure out.

I have a drawing with all my block definitions and the blocks inserted and annotated. Seems that in a previous version of Autocad, I could insert the drawing and cancel the insertion at some point of the insertion command sequence, such that the drawing was not inserted, but all the block definitions remained. I could then use the insert command and all of these blocks were available. Yes, sometimes this made my drawing memory size rather large and I would have to purge the unused blocks later to reduce the memory size of my drawing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a dynamic block that allows me to insert a single rack into a drawing and make a single row of racking with all racks staying 9'-0" center of post to center of post. Also would like to be able to turn that one single row into a double row that spacing between rows can be modified. I have attached a cad file showing a single rack and two example, one of a row of double racks and one of a single row of racks. This rack is 48" deep i will also have to create this for a 60' deep rack so how i can create future rack sizes and rows.

We have a client whom insists on 1/8" text and my blocks are all sized for 3/32". What I wanted to do is create two visibility states for the block. One using the 1/8" text and one using the 3/32" and be able to switch between them. I can get the border of the tag to work, but the text doesn't switch sizes.
Is this even possible? Is there a better way to deal with all my tags and needing to have two different versions of them? (Tags such as fixture tags, note tags, etc...)
I have a block with an attribute and need to change the first three characters of each to a different two characters. I recall my instructor once showing me how i could do this easily without having to click on each block to change the attribute.

I am used to "No columns" but it seems to be set to "Dynamic columns" by default, wonder if there is any setting to change default to "No columns". Or any Lisp can be used.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to create a adaptor to go from one 96 hole array pattern to a smaller 96 hole array pattern. The pattern gets smaller in both X and Y. This would go from vertical hole to angled hole back to vertical hole. One or both of the vertical sections could be removable to allow this to be a drilled part. The center section would be a solid block.
Since each hole will be at a different angle (in two different planes) it seems like I would need to create a separate plane for each hole and extrude from that plane. In addition to being error prone, this would take a large amount of time. Is there an easier way?
It would be straightforward to create a block with points for the large 96 hole array on top and the small 96 hole array on the bottom. Is there some kind of point to point method of creating a hole at an angle? A construction line could be drawn point to point but is there a way to make a hole from that?

I'm trying to change attributed approval stamps to attributed inter squad stamps and don't want to have to go through all 150 drawings and do it myself.
I have a group of blocks, when I click the blocks I get the editable attribute pop-up box. I can now enter a text of my liking.
I have now made a dynamic block of these blocks, with a visibility states dropdown. So that only one block is shown at a time and when I need to change it I copy the block and use the dropdown button to select the one I need.
The problem I have is that the when I click the blocks from the dropdown only one of them allows me to use the editable attribute pop up window. The others say 'The selected block has no editable attributes'.
If I can't have multiple blocks with editable attributes in one dynamic block or if I can and have done something wrong.
I've attached the block so you can see what I mean. Single Socket allows editable attributes others wont.
