AutoCAD Map 3D :: Creating Annotation For Pipe Diameter On Water Main Atlas
Mar 28, 2013
I'm creating Annotation for pipe diameter on a water main atlas. I have spans of pipe that are 50-200 feet in length. I often don't want the Annotation for pipe size to be placed at the midpoint of the line segment. I'd prefer it to be placed at the location where I 'select' on the feature. It seems like .LAGELPT, .CENTER, AND .CENTROID all place Anno at the midpoint of the line. X1,Y1 places Anno at the start of the line. X2,Y2 places Anno at the end of the line.
Is there an Expression String or Property I couldspecify, that would place the Annotation at the point where the feature was selected on-screen?

As it stands, if you view a pipe network in a profile view with no vertical exaggeration, you expect to see what is essentially an accurate long section in all directions. However, rather than being applied perpendicularly from the center line (or arguably the invert), diameter is applied strictly vertically.
Now, this made sense in the days of hand drafting when it was far easier in a vertically exaggerated profile view to simply measure the dimension vertically rather than determining how the exaggeration affects the perpendicular distance. But with the computer doing the measurements, is this really a problem anymore? I've debated that to some degree it's strange to consider that the crown of the pipe may be at a (slightly) different station than the invert, but this is simply fact in the field. And I've also thought that it's nice to be able simply measure vertically in an exaggerated profile, but I can't remember the last time I dug my scale out of the drawer.
All the theory aside, the real problem appears when you try to profile a vertical, or even a near-vertical, pipe. The fact that the diameter is applied vertically means that the vertical centerline is shifted the length of the pipe radius downward and upward. In other words, rather than seeing the invert and crown of the pipe, you just see one line, though it's really two lines on top of each other.
I wrote this off for the last 4 years of basic Pipe Networks because I acknowledge that storm/sanitary outside the building is rarely designed vertically, but with 2013's release of the Pressure Pipe Network, I really expected Autodesk to change the way the profile views represented pipes.

I would like to create an expression that returns the inner pipe diameter if the pipe is circular, and the inner height and width dimensions if the pipe section is square or elliptical. I tried this in the expression editor:
{Inner Pipe Diameter}|{Inner Pipe Height}&{Inner Pipe Width}
but it returned ? in the label .

So I have a proposed storm sewer pipe network and 90% of pipes snap to the structures fine, with a start/lengthen snap on one end and an end/lengthen on the other, and a location/pipe diameter one in the middle. When I go to draw one of the pipes though, I draw structure to structure and it doesn't sit properly. I click on it to make sure it snapped to the structure but there is no start, end, or lengthen snaps on either end of the pipe. Only a Location/Pipe Diameter one in the middle. Therefore, I cannot manipulate it's length or where it connects, I can only move it around from the center.

I would like to make a 1" long, 1" diameter straight pipe as a block. I would like to insert that block into my drawing, say...on a 90 degree elbow. After inserting the straight stub, I would like to use a grip to "stretch" the pipe length to the next fitting. Ultimately, I would like to compile a parts list for my pipe drawing that will give me the straight pipe length. I've been doing some searching and 3d dynamic blocks seem to be impossible.

I am making a design for a centrifugal water pump, the rotor was no problem, but I'm having some trouble designing the top case. I thought it would be easiest to create the channel for the water outlet using a loft feature.
I attached the ipt. there are two sketches, and I need a loft from the small to the large one, all the way around the circle. when you see it you'll probably understand what the result should be, but, no matter what I try, either I get an oddly shaped loft, or an error.

We have just made the switch to Revit 2013 and the first order of business is creating a template. I, as is my entire office, is learning as we go. I have followed the No Experience Necessary Revit book which was fantastic.
Now, at the beginning of creating my template I am stuck.
I edited the elevation marker and saved a new copy into my standards / prototype folder on my server. I customized it to look just like our CAD elevation marker, great...
I have the family loaded in the template.
Now when someone clicks on the elevation marker in the ribbon how do I get it to load mine instead of the default Revit one? Otherwise, I know I am going to find inconsistencies on our drawings as staff goes to that button.

I'm trying to create a profile of a pipe. I have elevation data for the pipe and natural ground I've created a surface from the natural ground then I created and alignment. Next I created a profile when the profile was completed I got broken lines and spikes for my pipe not a polyline that followed the natural ground. I'm at a loss as to how I could fix this and I'm very new to AutoCADD I'm a GIS person.

Currently running inventor 2013 premium still on the free trial until it runs out and i register it.
I am trying to create my own tube and pipe style for a 22mm copper heating pipe run.
I have been through and created the parts and successfully published them into a user contents library.
I start a new tube and pipe run in an assembly. then go manage>tube and pipe styles.
I then hit 'New' i fuill out the details, select my pipe, bend and coupler...everything seems ok, i hit save.
it doesnt appear in the styles selection menu to the left (where it should and did on the tutorial) and whats more when i try and exit or do anything else the 'Save Edits?' warning comes up (clicking save doesnt work) This is the second tube and piping run in this assy. but is a whole new run rather than route.is it a bug? or lack of privileges?

Im guessing that i had inserted some parameters wrongly.

I need to create a sub-set surface from my main surface. not sure what the vernacular is for a "subset surface" in c3d but i do have a feature line that bouinds the desired area, but that is as far as i can solve.
i did try creating a new surface - pasted the main surface in the edit definition, then deleted triangles until the boundary alighned wiht my featureline. This seemed to work, but when i view the properties of the smaller subset suface, it shows a mimum and maximum elevation that is incorrect.

I am working on creating an existing pipe network (stormwater) from objects, invert data, size, type and length given. M
My question is how do I know where the start and end is and if I need to create more than one network for my project. I have a current project location and I am assuming I am to create a network for the entire location?
I have attached a couple pics for you to see what I am working with at a couple different scales so you can get a good idae of my project.

I'm looking for a way to simply get a flowline elevation at some random point along a pipe (Network) in plan view without having to go through the trouble of "drawing Parts in Profile".
I have successfully added invert elevations at the ends of the pipe, but that's not what I'm looking to do & "ID" command shows the "Z" elevation for pipes in pipe networks to be "0".

One of the things I seem to struggle with is being able to depict a single pipe when it needs to be shown in one profile as a crossing pipe, and another profile where you you show a lenghwise slice through the pipe. I end up tracing the pipe with eliptical objects where I'm cutting across the pipe and setting up more for the lengthwise/sideview of the pipe. Is there a way to have two different styles for the same pipe, one for a cross cut and one for a lengthwise slice?
