AutoCAD Map 3D :: How To Import Geotiffs And Series Of Points
Sep 26, 2011
New user of autocad map 3d. My company has tasked me with figuring out how to plot updates (new and modified cell towers) that come to us as lat/long coordinates on a aeronautical sectional map from the FAA's website.
The sectional maps come to us as GeoTiffs at 1:500,000 scale. We could plot these out by hand but I am trying to make the process a lot faster by using Map3d. My questions are:
1- How do i import the geotiffs keeping the right scale, projection, etc.
2-How do i insert a series of points at the same time
3- Can i output the file as a tiff when im done?

I have collected points across a 500m distance with easting, northing and height values. This line of points is measuring a stepped slope of a field.
I want, if possible, to create a profile (something that looks like a slice of the slope, so that the steps and profile of the slope is clear.
Can this be achieved? Will you be able to guide me through the process?

is there a way to connect the lowest points of each cross section, for a series of cross sections, and possibly make a pline or feature line in plan view?

I loaded Photoshop 10 and then imported/moved my catalogs from Photoshop 6. They are all scrambled - do not honor import dates/sequence and have dates and file names all intermingled. It is really a screwed up mess. I haven't found a way to unscrew it! - Or tell me I get to live with it!

I am new to programming in general, but really new to C#. A little to discribe what I want to do.
I need to creat a command that once I run it, I get to choose an excel file that will be filled with points in a D,X,Y,Z format. (points range from 1-??) I know there are other ways of doing this (importing text ascii) but I need to cut down on the time and steps. This is something I do on a regular basis for people to convert different coordinate systems.
how to do the basics right now, I am just having trouble getting to the point that it will pull the info out of an excel file. I do not have any code right now to share to show my progress either.

when I use the tool "import points from excel to inventor" in sketch mode, it looks fine. I pick the option "create lines". is there any way to create one line by one line? because inventor will give you "Z" shape when you create two different line in different "row".

Using AutoCAD 2004 full version.
I am trying to import a survey into AutoCAD, and my client requires Attribute points. Normally we do not use attribute points, and I'm not having any luck importing the txt file that I created.
Assuming that I don't know the first thing about attributes (I now know a little, but I'm afraid that it might be wrong), but I know AutoCAD well (for what I do as a surveyor) what is the process of creating an attribute, and importing bulk amounts of data into it. The data would include:
(x) coord, (y) coord, z(coord) for the insertion point of the block Name, Feature_Code, Elev for the Tagged data needing to appear beside a 3d-point representing the x,y,z coords.
Using Land Desktop 3 I am able to create AECC points, but I do not have any Land Desktop experience at all, so I would rather stay away (I have no real need for it).
I do not have any 3rd party software that I know of that creates attribute points from a survey file, except for Trimble Geomatics Office, but it does not give me the format or all the data that I require.

To import the point along an alignment into Civil 3D, I need to introduce a scale factor. But by adding the Scale Factor column to the points and modify one of the formats in the Civil 3D to accept the scale factor, change was not affected to the initial state (without adding a column to a scale factor). I got the points, regardless of the scale factor and now, I want to add a scaling factor for the points.

1. When I do a re-import of my points my linework appears to double up (linework over linework).
2. In my description keys I use "rr" for rail road and "rrisg" for railroad signal (no * in code), linework comes in for both even though I only have it set up for "rr". I thought without the * in code this would not happen, but still does.
3. Finally, I use the "Survey Point Properties" window to make edits to points. All seems great, but when I got back into my drawing all my work was gone? Do I need to update the database some how with the changes? I was under the assumption that by doing it the way I do the changes are saved to the database. Is it better to do the edit on the Survey Tab by right clicking on the import event and selecting "Edit Points"?

i received a ascii file of position and elevation points (PNEZD) and do not see any where to import these points into AutoCAD 2011.
I know there exists survey products from autodesk, but still kind of wondering why there is no easy way to import points in the basic CAD program.
How to import a PNEZD file into AutoCAD 2011?

I have a text file in PNEZD where D is XYZ. I have a description key for XYZ. I am importing this file into survey. When I import this file the points do not take the style of the description key, they take a default style from somewhere. What trick am I missing so that when I import points into survey they use the description key and therefore have the correct style.

I use a Sokkia total station along with a data collector. I use this to bring measurement points in to another program that will draw a scaled map. I'm forced to use this other program and its supposed to be able to export the drawing into DXF format. It wont bring in the z coordinates. Is there a way I can use the total station to collect the points and then get them into AutoCAD 2013 so i can work my magic. Basically I draw crash scenes for a police department.

I'm very new to Civil 3D.I've been given original topography in a .dwg file and a .csv file of the same topography after some dirt work.My problem is when I import the .csv file the points don't overlay the original topography.
What I have done is added the .csv points to the original topography .dwg with the "Points From File" option.

Running C3d 2012 here, but haven't used prior versions. I'm using fieldbooks to import survey data. If there is an error of some kind and I "Re-import event" for the fieldbook, then the occupied points from the field book are deleted out of the survey database and I get the resulting error of "point invalid" during the import. My fix is to go into my control drawing and import the control points from the drawing into the survey database then run the "re-import" again.

I stumbled on to this thread but I guessing that it's a different CAD year because my modify tab doesn't look like this. URL.....

I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?

there is a way to convert land desktop aecc points to cogo points and use the full description?
I do not have access to the ldt files nor to the Descriprion keys file. It would be nice if there was an option to preserve full descriptions when converting (that would be just too simple).

I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

I have a couple points that were part of an import event (data from a previous project) which I want to assign as control points for an incoming traverse, is there any way to assign those as control points? I can't seem to find a way to do that other than perhaps re-importing the specific points as control points and overwriting the existing ones.

I have a project that was started by leaving all the survey data inside the "All Points" group. So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.
What should I do?

I need a function similar to Qselect.
In this case I would like to select all entities on a series of layers. (i.e.: a-site-* or a-fill*). I know I can do this with qselect by doing each layer one at a time and append the existing selection set.
Instead, I've been locking all layers except the series I'm looking for, but it seems like there should be a quicker way.

I'm trying to extrude a series of 3D faces, a very large series, over 200,000 3D faces. I´ve done this before only it was not on so many faces as I can select only like 3,000 faces aprox at any one time or the computer crashes.
I think this problem could be solved, or at least I could save some time, if the extruding preview could be turned off. By extruding preview I mean that when I enter the extrude command and select the objects to extrude, then immediatly there's a preview of what the objects would look like once they're extruded and that's what's causing the delay and the crashes.
Is there any way this could be turned off?
I've attached an image.
