I have a shape file representing sewer lines between manholes. I need to assign an attribute to the line with "upstream invert" and "downstream invert" in my table. Can I edit the shape file in map? I know I can edit in arcmap, but i am much more comfortable editing in acad. Then I could use arcmap to view my shapefile.
View 6 RepliesI want to edit some values in the data table of a shape file (*.shp) with AutoCAD Map 3d 2013. Every time I alter a value in data table it takes about 30 seconds until AutoCAD Map saves (?) the value. I have to wait 30 second until I can continue working. Why is this so slow?
The shape file has 7000 lines and is stored on a local drive.
Is there no longer a way to edit the shape of a viewport in paper space anymore? I seem to remember being able to make viewports in previous versions and then edit the shape as i needed to.
I am using 2014, and trying to cut a corner off of a rectangular viewport so i can lay another one on my page.
any way to delete more than a single shape at a time from a shape collection file, other like step by step with the option key? I have one collection with about 400 shapes and would like to save it to some "groups", like people, arrows, devices..

1) how to edit multiple text or shape layers (text size, color, size etc..)? i tried link the layers and hold shift key, but it does not work.
2) Why when i drew shape i don't have ideal edge. Every time i need to zoom and fix with transform tool. Even when i drew with rules, grids this happens.
3) How to make like this? when you save file for web as image black part don't show up and you don't need crop this?
I want to draw a filled shape and edit it later during further design.
I used Path Tool to draw my shape with points. Then I used Selection from Path to create a closed shape, as I can fill it with solid color or patterns.
But how can I edit the shape after it has been filled with color? After using Selection from Path, the shape is independent of the controlling points of Bezier Curve.
In general, how can I draw a closed shape, which is filled with solid color or patterns, but still editable by moving controlling points of Bezier Curve on the border? In other words, when I move the points, the inner color/pattern should be extended.
Is it possible to create a shape and then edit the coordinates of the shape's control points? When I currently click on a shape's control point, it doesn't offer any way to fine tune the location of that point by manually typing in the X, Y coordinate.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason after drawing shapes with the shape tool, whether it is one line or a custom shape, I just can't edit it after drawing it. I can't edit it at all and it doesn't appear on any layer. I can delete every single layer and the shape will still be there.
They are not paths, but just to double check I did look under paths but it is empty. It doesn't matter what else I've done, or whether it is a new blank page I can't do anything with any shape once I've drawn it.
I can't get it to select it when I click show transform controls, I can't select it with the marquee tool and delete it (because it isn't on any layer) and I can't place anything over it to cover it.
I have to keep saving before drawing any shape and close and reopen the file if the shape doesn't go quite as I wanted first time. Obviously if I want anything over the shape in any way I can't do it.
If there is a way to export a CAD file (dwg) to a shape file that can be imported into ArcMAP.
We use AutoCAD 2012, and do have Civil 3D, however have not used it (all of our dwgs are with CAD, not 3D).
I am currently using AutoCad Map3d 2013. I am trying to export some features to esri shape file. When I use the export command it does not export all the features, only a few of them. I tried each different way point, line, polygon (treat closed polylines as polygons). I just did this the other day and worked out fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a bunch of GIS files for Baltimore City and am trying to compile them to make base tiles we can use for different projects. I have tried using MapImport and MapConnect to bring in the shp file for the contours. They come in but without the elevation. The elevation is brought in as Object Data with MapImport, but is there a way to assign that to the elevation field in the polyline properties? MapConnect brings the elevation in as part of the table but again how do I get that elevation assigned to the elevation field in the polyline properties? I just assigned the elevations manually for the 10' contours in one tile. I have to do about 50 tiles, and it seems like there must be a much better way to do it.

How to compile a "master" .shp file that would include the coding for all of my shape files for custom linetypes. I did this years ago for a specific set of linetypes but I can not remember how I did it.
I know ACAD has the linetype.shp file that includes coding for ACAD supplied custom linetypes.
I think I remember inserting all of the shapes into a drawing and somehow compiling the *.shp file. Is that how it is done?
Just need a simple conversion of a shape file into CAD lines.

for example a pipe has an attribute showing the pipe diameter and intead of having to manually type it out I would like a way to extract that information.

I would like to know how to export a hatch shape as a shape file so that it can be used in ArcGIS. I am running C3D 2013 with Map 3D and ArcMap10. I have tried the Output as SDF and the map3d export and I haven't been able to get either to work. I don't have a problem exporting lines, points or polygons.

I can point it in the right direction, but this comes up at every boot up and I would like it to find it automatically and my old memory can't recall this happening with 2012 or before. I am using an old template file, does that matter?
Whenever I tell LR to edit a photo in PS (CS6), I get back a TIFF file that is 10X larger than the orginal RAW file, and I ultimetly delete it to save space (after first converting it to a jpeg). Why doesn't PS do LR style non-destructrive editing, i.e., why not simply return a record of the edits made in a format compatible with LR?
View 8 Replies View RelatedGPS'd fire hydrant locations. The GPS points were exported to shape files and using Data Connect, these points locate correctly in Map (using version 2009). The points have default styling...color, shape...and I want to use a CAD block of a fire hydrant to symbolize the points instead of the default square. Is this possible?
Clicking "Style" on the Display Manager to open the Style Point dialog box.
Next to the heading "Symbol:" clicking the ... button brings me to "Select a Symbol" pop up dialog box.
Next to the "Symbol Library:" drop down box, clicking the ... button brings me to the folder located at C://Program Files/AutoCAD Map 3D 2009/Sample/Symbols. There are 13 DWGs in this folder all called "Map - something.dwg" like "Map - electric.dwg" or "Map - water.dwg.
I can open any of these DWGs and they all provide multiple symbols to choose from in the "Select a Symbol" dialog box. However, none of these DWGs contain a symbol for a fire hydrant.
What other folders can be navigated to, in order to find other blocks? Can other CAD blocks be used as shape file symbolization or does the prefix "Map - xxx" in this folder mean that only these specific drawings will open for shape file symbolization?
I have a user who is trying to plot several design drawings which all have a connection to one shape file. The file in question is used as background data for the design and is apparently fairly large. When he plots the drawings only part of the shape data comes through. Based on the information I have it sounds like the software does not have enough time to retreive all of the shape data before the plot data goes to the printer.
