AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimensions On Isometric Views
Sep 28, 2012
We have been putting dimensions on isometric views and the dimensions have been coming out fine. Now, however, we have an isometric and the dimension is about 400mm out and is not on the plane/face it should be.

If it is possible to create proper dimensions for 3D isometric drafting views? In AutoCAD I could set an oblique angle for a dimension but in Revit there is no setting. I can only dimension 3D model views.
See attached PDF for example.

I have an assembly that I would like to show dimensions on an isometric view. I am able to create the dimension, no problem. Issue I'm having is that when placed on a standard lettersize page, the dimensions are too hard to read. I've tried editing the size by double clicking the dimension & editing the font. It doesn't seem to make a difference what font size I enter, the size remains the same. How can I change the text size on isometric dimensions?

I need a way to add isometric dimensions from the elbow below?
This is how standard piping isometric drawings are done, no need for a front view, top view, etc.
Just all dimensions on one isometric view.
I am creating piping drawings for a Power Station and want to dimension from the intersection of the centrelines of all the elbows on the pipe run (just like dimension 300 and 1282 in the picture below).
I've been able to add dim 300 & 1282 by using "Include Route Centerlines" BUT if there's piping created without a piping route this cannot be done.
I don't understand why I cannot get dimension A & B from the standard work features displayed on the elbow or dimension between two elbows just using these work features?

I have had this several times now where I open a previously fine drawing to reprint it...(4 sheets in the .idw) and when I go back to the plotter I have dimension lines stretching off the page....whole clusters of dimensions missing etc.
If I double click on the dimension or right click edit the item...I do not have to actually do anything...just click ok after the edit box comes up on that one item edit, and ALL the dimensions come back in that view only.
I then have to go through and "edit" one dimension in each view to get all the views back to normal..

I'm using Autocad LT 2012. If I draw in an isometric view, is there a way to look at each direction to see the different views? For instance if I make a cube, can I hatch all six sides with different colors to show if I'm looking at the correct view?

I'm working on a project where I've modeled obstacles for an obstacle course on a military installation and I'm having some issues with isometric views and adding dimensions at various UCS orientations.
Basically, each obstacle has a plan view and an isometric to depict height of some of the material above ground level and below.
I've tried re-orienting the UCS to accomodate the dimensions and it works to a degree but there has to be an easier way.
When I select the points for my dimension, I'm prompted...
Specify dimension line location or
[Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]:
I need the dimensions to be vertical in the isometric. I've been messing with it and I was able to eventually get it right but is there an easier way?
Whenever the dimension is drawn in model space the dimenion ends up far from where it needs to be. I always have to relocate it and re-select where I want the dimension lines to be.
Also, is there some kind of add-on that might make 3D dimensions easier?
Also, I have a thin solid representing the ground level so that everything below ground level results in a hidden line (due to the visual style I'm using) in the isometric drawings.
This works out great but any dimensions below ground level end up hidden. I don't think there is any way around this though with the style I have in use.
I've gone with simple callouts specifying overall material heights to avoid these issues in the meantime.

on a couple of my lager project i have recently had issues with Autodesk Civil 3D 2012 Freezing in Model Space switching between Isometric views. the number of view changes varies each time but seams to freeze during regen of the model.
I have checked the performace tuner and updated my driver, see Attached Log.
We are in the process of changing our CAD Stations over to Windows 7 64 bit, but im not scheduled for a couple more months.

When I add dimensions to an 3d object in an isometric (or similar) view, the dimension lines get placed way off screen, and the leader lines are projected onto the x-y plane.
Additionally, when I try to add lines to an object that is far from the x-y plane, the mouse position responds to the line's location as if it were drawing on the x-y plane.
Do I have to continually make custom UCS coordinates just to draw in 3d without hassle? There are other times when this does not happen (perhaps only when my 3d object is very near the x-y plane...

I typically as much as possible like to insert my dimensions into my drawing from my model.
I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.

I have been asked by one of my clients to provide an isometric piping diagram for a product that we have modeled/developed for them. We have already provided models, review drawings, design drawings, and fabrication drawings for this product but what they are looking for is a simple isometric pipe diagram where they can hand write their weld test data and put the material data sheet number references. I have submitted a sample of a drawing we completed with an isometric view of this piping as a full view (iso view created by IV) but they are requesting something simpler like they are used to (one-line iso pipe spool-type thing with symbols instead of modeled valves, etc.). I am embarking on a process to get them to change their standard but I was wondering what you experts thought while I am doing this (in case they refuse).
I don't want to create drawing that isn't tied to the model somehow for obvious future-revisions-parametric reasons so I was wondering what you think my options would be for keeping this all in IV (instead of just doing something seperate in AutoCAD.

I'm wondering is it possible to orientate the dimension text alligned to paper(2.jpg) but not the UCS of Isometric drawing(1.jpg).
Sometime I need to allocate my drawing with dimensioning in isometric view because its more easy to read.
I'm placing my drawing in *.idw.

I am trying to create a second base view (using Layout/Create View/Base from model space). The problem is, I need it to be rotated from the original base view. However, when I rotate the part in model space, ALL of my views change.
So I guess my question is, how do I create multiple views of the same part that are seperate from the other base views?

I started with a Left side view of a part and created a sectioned view right down the middle so you can see the insides from another view. the part is pretty big so i used a Break to shorten it to fit the page. I also placed a smaller and separate isometric view of the same part and want this view to inherit the same break. How can I do this? If I go into the display options of the iso view, all the cut inheritance options are grayed out and can't be clicked. I've seen this done before, but i'm sure i missed a step somewhere.
