AutoCAD Inventor :: Control Length Of Piano Hinge In Assembly?
Sep 16, 2011
What would be the best way to control the length of this piano hinge in an assembly? I need it to change in length when the door size changes.

How can I bend a Living Hinge at 90deg angles for assembly? Also, is there any tool in either autocad or SW that I can get that final dimension with tolerances? My concern is the hinge might break after printing!

I'm creating a wire assembly and i already have in me a length for my wire.
How can I apply this in my assembly for Inventor? It seems only the diameter can be specified but not the length.

I created a inventor part by name "011-03-054-A-25x50 HS" 100mm in length. Used "011-03-054-A-25x50 HS" in a assembly and used the same part in another assembly. Then I created a ipart with a different length which is 250mm. Now I want to use 250mm length in the second assembly. How do I doit? I couldn't find an answer any where. I am using Autodesk Inventor 2013 in windows 7.
This was called configrations in Solidworks and was very easy to use.

I have a part with a rule 'PlaatsPaneelNummer " which I place text on my part. Now I have that part in an assy posted regarding the use of a placeholder.
Now I want the rule 'PlaatsPaneelNummer' drive from the assy. I keep getting the message that the sketch in which the text is placed can not find. I can not manage to show this in the rule.

This is my first time using Inventor but I've been using ProE for several years in school. A friend of mine told me about a feature in ProE where you are able to define a part and then define one of the lengths as it is placed into an assembly. For example I would define a 2x4 part with a length of 84inches. If I wanted a 2x4 of 68inches in my assembly I would use the same file but simply change the 84 to 68. How can I do this with Inventor?

I am trying to control the parameters contained in a part that is not in my assembly. May sound odd, but I am using the multi body part modeling feature to create all of my bodies in a single part file, then making these components/sub assemblies, and pulling them into my assembly. However, I do not want to have the "control part" in my assembly, I just want it to drive the parts. I cannot figure out how to access these parameters without having the part included in the assembly...

I am currently working on a parametric assembly using i Logic to control the size of the components as well as patterns. However, I have hit a road block in trying to figure out how to write a rule for resizing the last roof sheet in this assembly pictured below to be even with the frame. The rule below is what controls the roof sheet pattern based on the frame length. The problem I am continually running into is how do you modify a part which is in an element within the pattern without having it affect the rest of the parts in the pattern since they all refer to part. I can get since it is hard to find information on i Logic.
Roof_Pattern_Spacing = Roof_Sheet_Width
Roof_Pattern_Count=Ceil(Parameter("Length")/Parameter("Sheet Metal Roof Section:1", "Roof_Sheet_Width"))
(Note: The red line symbolizes where I would like to have the roof sheet end.)

I am assembling a cupboard using a hinge and a door. I can make the hinge swivel quite nicely in its own assembly file. When I add the hinge and the door to the cupboard assembly I cannot get the door to swivel with the hinge. In fact I can not get the hinge to swivel once I place it on the cupboard frame member.

In Autocad 2006, is there a way to control the length of the dimension line when it extends outside of the dimension distance itself? In other words, when a dimension is small, and the arrowheads flip to the outside of the dimension parameter, the text and the extension line outside of the dimension seems to go to far outside of the dimension area..
Can I control how far outside of the dimension area that this line and text are placed? They seem to go to far out on my drawings. I prefer them to be closer to the actual dimension area instead of extending so far out.. Didn't know if there was a control for this and where to find it.

I've got this hinge working using translational constraints - but I don't seem to be able to apply an angle constrain to it to drive it.
I can't apply an angle constraint when using it as a flexible assembly either - and the flexible assembly keeps throwing an error to do with the translational constraints.

Say you have a dynamic block of a hinge, and you want to stretch it to the hight of a door. The dynamically blocked hinges have a base point, and a grip point. I place the base point at the bottom of the door, and stretch from the grip point to the top of the door, (so that there is a hinge on both the top & bottom of the door).
What i want, is for the array tool to automatically place another hinge in the center of the stretch, but only after the top hinge has stretched to/greater than 1000mm. I want this newly added hinge to stay in the center of my two hinges already in place (whenever the hinges are stretched higher or lower, the middle hinge moves to the center), and NOT add anymore hinges, 3 maximum.

Why is my corridor adding a hinge? [Atleast I think that is the problem]
I am trying to create a berm that is 8' wide. For my assembly I used 4' wide basiclanes and daylightgeneral (with 3:1 slope in all parameters) on left and right side.
In the top image I have circled two of the areas in which the hinge line is shown. And in the bottom right the cross section of one side of the berm is shown. As you can see on the inside (left) there is two feet sloped at approximately -1% before it daylights to the surface at 3:1
Why isn't the left side matching the right?

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.
1. Start a Rule after open document.
2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.
3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.
4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component
5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter
Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:
1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive
2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive
It don't work with the following situation:
- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault
Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.
I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.
change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

I have encountered a problem with the Tube and Pipe styles.
As you can see, I have a rack assembly with a custom tube and pipe style. A wire as a tube in orange, and a tube support in white. Both have their seperate colorations at a style in the tube and pipe styles editor
When placing the rack assembly into the main assembly, it reverts to the coppor coloration I changed from the original style.
Steps I've taken:
Exported the styles .xml and Imported the styles into the master tubeandpipe.iam
Imported the user created .xml styles into the main assembly file nothing seems to work

I am trying to find the interior volume of an assembly (when am I not?!?!) by subtracting the assembly from a block that surrounds the most of it. Somewhere the assembly has a "leak" and I have been trying to use the Cross Section Analysis to track down where the inside lump is connected to the outside lump to be subtracted. Is there a less time consuming way to dynamically drag a plane across and get cross sectional views?
Even better is there a simple way to animate the analysis plane moving across the block so I can hopefully just watch and pause it when I find a leak?

it is possible to make a constraint that utilized a parameter of a part within the assembly.
For example, if I wanted to use the thickness of a plate, which I defined in the part, could I call that parameter in a constraint?

My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.
When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.
I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.
I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.
In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

I want to be able to control the location/position of a component in an assembly. This is easy enough through the iProperties/Occurrence tab and then adjust the location of the X,Y, and Z offsets. Is this possible using iLogic? I have been unable to find a function to access via iLogic. Ultimately I am trying to translate a component about an axis not a pattern.

I have a two part duct fire damper assembly. The IDW has the combined two part assembly, which I know how to turn the CoG on, so that it can be dimensioned. The problem is each piece will more than likely be hoisted separately so I would like to show the CoG for each piece, not the combined master assy.is there a way to do this?

My Assembly has two possible positions for my piston.
I would like to show both piston positions (top and bottom) in one drawing file; however, in different drawing views.
I have tried using LOD and Drawing View Representations, but it is my understanding that neither of these are meant to be used in this way.
