View 5 RepliesWe have just migrated from Inventor 2009 to Inventor 2013 - I was thinking to migrate the old IV 2009 materials and colors to a new library. The migration dialog box in IV 2013 requires XML files while the export from IV 2009 generates STYXML files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Autodesk Inventor Professional 2010. I use FEA a lot on steel and aluminum structures but was wondering if Inventor is capable of doing FEA on composite structures. I personally want to estimate the strength of some carbon fiber tubing but wasn't sure whether or not I would be getting good data from it. I know that composites don't yield and was wondering how or if that will affect anything. Also, if you can do an FEA on a composite, any solid website to get material properties from?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI came up with 2 questions related to my Inventor 2012 install :
1. Is there a way to install only Showcase 2012 from install kit if on fist "session" I've unchecked it from customize-installation? How ?
2. Can I add new materials to library ? If so is there a website with samples to upgrade inventor material library with new ones?
Could you tell me or give me a link to the procedure to migrate the materials library. I have a materials library that I created in 2012 and I would like to migrate it to 2013.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have successfully opened a STEP file from our Engineering group and saved it away as an Inventor Assembly. I would like to define Materials and/or Surface finishes for all parts. Why wouldn't the Surfaces and Materials synchronize between the Styudio's Surface Creator and the BOM Materials Control in the Assembly area?
I have found the way to define a new Surface in the "Inventor Studio" Interface and saved it with a unique name. Now, I would like to assign that Surface as a Material to the parts in the assembly ... and of course I would like to define numerous other surfaces and materials for assignment to all the parts throughout the assembly. Finally, I would like these surfaces / materials to follow the model into Showcase for presentation purposes.
Is it possible to change materials mid animation in inventor 2012? Essentially, im looking to rotate a camera arround an assembly, make the enclosure glass and do it again.
Additionally, Is there a way to use animations already created in an ipt file (using the same model) in Inventor Studio?
I am lookng for a way to allow multiple material selections for a drawing/model
We have components that avaialable in both 304 and 316. We have seperated stock codes for each of the selections what I would like to do is to come up with a way that I don't need multiple models of these features. The deisgns are virtually the same except for the material change.
In previous cad systems I used a tabled system in the model that would allow you to vary paramters such as Iproperties or even dimensions in one model.
This elimated duplication of work includeing double maintenance for the models?
Is there a way to associate layers to materials so when they are placed in a drawing they are automatically placed on the proper layer. I have line weights set for each individual layer and would like each material component to have its own line weight.

Is there a way to add new materials to physical properties?
Is there a cloud feature in Inventor for drawings, or is that something that can only be done in Autocad Mechanical and Mechanical Desktop?
I am trying to load CATIA v5 files into Inventor 2013, which works great. However, the materials applied to the object in CATIA are not being imported. Instead the colors from the "Properties" dialog in CATIA are being applied. Is it possible to somehow maintain the materials? Since the constraints aren't imported either, I would have to reapply the materials for every position of this certain object (for renders), because adding the constraints in Inventor is too much work to be doing again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow Import materials.xml to Inventor 2013 materials library used API ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a custom Content Center bolt that can be one of three different materials (6.8, 8.8, 10.9). The materials are stored in our Styles Library, and the project specifies "Use Styles Library = Yes"; so the three materials are visible from the Content Center Editor. The Material column in the Content Center Editor is defined to "Map To Inventor Property: Project.Material". Everything looks fine. But no matter what material I select, I get 6.8.
I've already got LOTS of parts published with custom materials and they all work fine, but the big difference is that these families are all the SAME material. I'm having problems with getting a family to use DIFFERENT materials. We're using Inventor 2009.
When i use the BOM feature, i get a list but cannot get panel sizes as dimensions in a table. I can get a part ID and other not so important in for for a BOM but dimensions and sizes should be key.
How can i get a detailed BOM to include panel sizes (like a cut list).
I'm in the process of modifying our materials.xml file within the: Style and Standard Editor [Library - Read/Write]I can add materials no problem but:
* When I make an attempt to rename a material, a new material is created with the new name, and the material I attempted to rename is still there with the old name.
* 90% of the time "purge style" is grayed out. When I have the chance to use "purge style" it doesn't work. Purge style and sub-styles doesn't work either.
How do you delete materials from materials.xml?
I am seeing this "varies" message on certain items in my BOM but can't tell where the incosistencies are. The strange thing is that my part number LCVINYL is showing the correct length of material while the Unit Quantity is showing "varies". Normally this would make me think that the inconsistency is in the name only. Where should I be looking to correct this?
BTW all of these LCVINYL parts were created in the frame generator if that matters.
It would be nice to add materials to assemblies..(under the physical properties tab)I see it can be done only if it was a 'weldment' under the weld bead properties, but in weldments you cant have positional reps.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI changed the names and locations of my parts in an assembly, opened the drawing, and found all of the parts and names. I then looked at the parts list on the assemblies in the drawings. Even though the assemblies updated, the part name did not update. How do I update the BOM to match the assembly (I thought it would do this automatically?)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have attached a screen shot. I created this base plate as A572-50 steel and it is displayed as galvanized. The only thing on this assembly that is from the content center are the bolted connections and a few pieces of A53 pipe that is not shown in the image. All of the other parts and sub- assembly's and their parts are created with their appropriate grade of steel and also displayed as Galvanized. When they are place into the same assembly their materials and display are exactly like they are on the part level itself.
When I place the base plate from my project the initial preview of the the part shows it to be as it is in the part itself, A572-50 and galvanized. The problem comes when you actually drop it in the assembly. The material of the part is reverted to the Steel, Galvanized and is displayed as Generic. This causes a problem in my BOM and then some.
is it posible to list all the materials from all libraries and catagories from Inventor 2013?
I am using this at the moment: Dim oMat As Inventor.Material For Each oMat In oApp.StylesManager.Materials comboMaterial.Items.Add(oMat.Name.ToString) Next
This works but only pulls through and lists the "Inventor Material Library" materials by default.
What is strange though is that when I apply a material from another library to a part then its almost like that library is now active and if the routine is run again it only pulls through materials from that library and not the "Inventor Material Library" again.
I know in 2014 its better supported but is there a way to get all materials in 2013?
I have tube and pipe subassembly in my assembly. When I see my BOM, each route is a subassembly but some not, and went I add balloon on pipe from "this not subassembly but in realy is one" it give me the same item number for each pipe generate in this route.
How can change this "fake" part to assembly for BOM?
Is there a good source of material mechanical properties on the internet? I have been creating a custom material library with the materials I normally use and I've just been duplicating a material from the supplied libraries to create mine with a name change only. I'd like to include the correct mechanical properties if I could find a source of information that has all the properties in the format that the Inventor 2013 materials editor requires.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHow & where I can add fields that I require for my equipment. I see I can add it to the bill of materials in the assembly but that doesn't carry through to the drawing.
I see that I can add to the parts list in the drawing but i don't want to have to add the information into my drawings every time I use one of my machines.
Basically I am busy creating a library of all the machines I use. This library will then be used for numerous drawing for many different clients. I need the required info to be in my drawing from the beginning without me having to add it to every clients drawing.
I am trying to populate a multi-value user parameter with a list composed of the various materials available from the iProperties "Physical" tab. So far I have this:
For Each material In iProperties.Materials
Bracket_Material.Items.Add(material)
Next
iProperties.Material=Bracket_Material
Running the Rule gets this error message:
Rule Compile Errors in Material_Rule, in _Mounting_bracket.ipt
Error on Line 2 : 'Bracket_Material' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level.
I think I am doing the "Bracket_Material.Items.Add(material) " line wrong, but I don't know enough VB to fix it. It seems to me it IS declared in the Parameters table - isn't adding the parameter to the parameter table sufficient to declare it?
Eventually I want to add the Bracket_Material Parameter to a form so the user can select material from drop down list and assign it to part.
Does a process for importing INDIVIDUAL materials (saved as some_material.styxml) that had been exported from Inventor 2011 or 2012 into the 2013 Inventor Material Library?
I am not asking about converting the old libraries -- I know how to do that -- these are materials that were created for one-time (supposedly) use and exported from the 2012 Inventor file, but never saved to the older Inventor styles libraries. Operation was EASY in 2012 -- click the "Import" button on the styles manager dialog box.
No such button on the new materilas library manager, or am I missing something?
Only way I have been able to do this is create a 2102 part, import the STYXML file, apply the material to the 2012 part, then save the part & open it in 2013 & let 2013 import the style. Once the material style has been imported this way, it can be added to the Inventor Material Library, but this is a really nutty workaround that requires Inventor 2102 to be available...
