AutoCAD Inventor :: Import Materials.xml To 2013?
Nov 23, 2012How Import materials.xml to Inventor 2013 materials library used API ?

View 1 RepliesI would like to be able to export the complete materials library into for instance Excel and edit and add new materials and then import the whole thing into Inventor again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes a process for importing INDIVIDUAL materials (saved as some_material.styxml) that had been exported from Inventor 2011 or 2012 into the 2013 Inventor Material Library?
I am not asking about converting the old libraries -- I know how to do that -- these are materials that were created for one-time (supposedly) use and exported from the 2012 Inventor file, but never saved to the older Inventor styles libraries. Operation was EASY in 2012 -- click the "Import" button on the styles manager dialog box.
No such button on the new materilas library manager, or am I missing something?
Only way I have been able to do this is create a 2102 part, import the STYXML file, apply the material to the 2012 part, then save the part & open it in 2013 & let 2013 import the style. Once the material style has been imported this way, it can be added to the Inventor Material Library, but this is a really nutty workaround that requires Inventor 2102 to be available...
is it posible to list all the materials from all libraries and catagories from Inventor 2013?
I am using this at the moment: Dim oMat As Inventor.Material For Each oMat In oApp.StylesManager.Materials comboMaterial.Items.Add(oMat.Name.ToString) Next
This works but only pulls through and lists the "Inventor Material Library" materials by default.
What is strange though is that when I apply a material from another library to a part then its almost like that library is now active and if the routine is run again it only pulls through materials from that library and not the "Inventor Material Library" again.
I know in 2014 its better supported but is there a way to get all materials in 2013?
I've got some insulation that is colored white and no matter what white I use or alter the views still show grey. 2011 didn't have this problem as white-flat looked white on screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I go about restoring, repairing or fixing the default materials and appearances that come installed with Inventor Pro 2013? I have a stand-alone single seat installation. SP 1.1 has been installed.
I tried to create a custom library of materials and appearances by making a copy of InventorMaterialLibrary.adsklib and renaming it. I then added new materials. Depending on project, I get nag messages regarding template styles in conflict with the library styles. I'm also getting message warning me that the InventorMaterialLibrary can't get loaded.
It is my intent to create a custom materials and appearances library that mimics the as installed InventorMaterialLibrary plus some additional materials and appearances. The custom library and appearances need to be available to all NEW projects and MAY be added to existing projects without getting the nag message about style conflicts.
I'm also seeing a behavior where the default appearance changes from standard light gray to the first appearance listed in the Autodesk Appearance Library, the 1.5 inch blue tile. I suspect that's the reason I'm getting the nag message. How do I fix this? How do I prevent this from happening in the future?
1) Restoring default as installed material and appearance libraries
2) Creating a custom materials and appearance library to contains ALL items found in the InventorMaterialLibrary plus new materials and appearances
3) Preventing nag style conflict messages
4) Preventing the default appearance of light gray to change to the 1.5 inch blue tile
The machine I'm currently using needs to be ready to go in the morning.
Product Design Suite Ultimate 2012, 2013 & 2014
in versions of inventor prior to 2013 we were able to quickly and easily refresh a part styles, and thereby obtain the master information for materials, colours and any other style.
i find that now, with the new system of managing materials and appearances that if i need to update a part to reflect the material assests that reside in my materials and appearance library that i have to:
1. open the part, then set the part material to a material other than that i wish to update, then
2. delete the local/ document asset of the material i wish to update, then,
3. assign the material from my material library to the part (to get the library assets to come through to the part).
it seems ridiculous that we have to delete local materials or colours prior to obtaining an updated material or appearance to get the new data into the part.
(the refresh styles command actually appears to be calling in the updates however the updates seem to treat the document assets as the most important. even when managing materials and appearances, the local/document asset seems to take priority over any library asset. again this is different to pre 2013, and is frustratingly slow to work around. all that used to happen in 2012 and prior is we would get a warning that the local style would be overwritten with updated style data = very quick and easy
I am working on modeling a residential house and I have been progressive positively on this project except that I now have to include earth and grass materials not available on the Material Browser of Autocad and also I want to draw 3D windows in Inventor that I would want to use effectively in the architectural drawing in Autocad. Is there a way to safely export the Inventor Assembly without losing the colors and rendering?
View 0 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCAD 2014. We were recently asked if there is a way to automatically update bill of materials if you change or add materials in a drawing. Bill of material is not necessarily in the same drawing? Do I need to create a table?
We normally just create a bill of material separately from the rest of the drawings in AutoCAD. They also want to be able to export it to exel
I am currently making a 3d tower and the outside of the tower is glass, but when i apply the colored glass i want you can see the whole way through the tower. That isn't what it looks like in real life.
I tried adjusting the transparency of the material and the glass is still see through. I then changed it to a solid glass but then i couldn't get the color that i want and it doesn't look realistic. i tried messing with the opacity, again that had no effect. i am using AutoCad 2013.
Trying to so printed graphics in a render. Auto cad seems to see the image as a different color other applications.
Is there a setting i have missed? The attached shows an image in picture viewer behind the material editor.
I've tried just about everything but I can't seem to be able to import a materials library from AutoCAD 2013 to Revit 2013
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm an Autocad Architecture user (the 2013 student version). In Acad's Material library there are some Water materials you can choose from such as Swamp, Swimming Pool, Tropical etc, but I can't figure out how they're supposed to be used to save my life. When I check the properties of water materials, in the little preview window they are applied to a "Pool of Liquid" geometry. Am I supposed to create that sort of geometry?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd share a little discovery we made here yesterday. Before we upgraded to Inventor 2013, there was a lot of fuss and hesitation due to 2013 not having the AMDT import wizard functionality. This lack of functionality was also confirmed by our VAR.
I can confirm that Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 DOES have the usual Mechanical Desktop import wizard.
I can also confirm that it still doesn't bring in extruded text :-)
I've attached a collection of screenshots as proof.
I use Inventor 2013 regularly and only sometimes require the use of AutoCAD, mainly for 2D electrical layout drawings.
I have saved my drawing .idw template file from Inventor to a .dwg
Inserted it into AutoCAD .dwg
Saved as an AutoCAD .dwt
now the only issue that I have, is the image that I had embedded into the inventor drawing template, shows up as an icon instead of my compnay logo:
Is AutoCAD capable of showing images in a title block and hwo would I go about deleting the current icon image and replace it with the logo?
I tried deleting the current image in block editor but it won't let me select it.

When I merge geometry into a scene that is already using the same materials, it prompts me what I want to do. I always select "Use scene materials"...however, whenever I look at the slate, it shows duplicates all over the place. To keep mat library optimized becomes a task when you are dealing with a lot of materials.
Why does MAX not listen to me when I tell it to use the scene materials that have matching names?

One of our client facing problems that Autodesk 3ds max 2011-64 bit does not show the option to import “.mov” file as bitmap map in materials and also not render in “.mov” format whereas Autodesk 3ds max 2011-32 bit does.
They had installed only Autodesk 3ds max 2011 64 bit only on their machine and don’t want to install it’s 32 bit version.
we have Inventor prof 2012 lisc copy ,now we recd 2013 upgrade copy , as per discusswith local service provider of Autodesk need to uninstall whole 2012 and reload fresh 2013. i copied contenet center folder on other location and reload fresh Inventor 2013.when i installed it it is obserbed that content center libraries don't have standards which contents in Inventor 2012. To open our old projects we need this standards, the procedure to import this content center libraries from 2012 to 2013.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Autodesk Inventor Professional 2010. I use FEA a lot on steel and aluminum structures but was wondering if Inventor is capable of doing FEA on composite structures. I personally want to estimate the strength of some carbon fiber tubing but wasn't sure whether or not I would be getting good data from it. I know that composites don't yield and was wondering how or if that will affect anything. Also, if you can do an FEA on a composite, any solid website to get material properties from?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI came up with 2 questions related to my Inventor 2012 install :
1. Is there a way to install only Showcase 2012 from install kit if on fist "session" I've unchecked it from customize-installation? How ?
2. Can I add new materials to library ? If so is there a website with samples to upgrade inventor material library with new ones?
Could you tell me or give me a link to the procedure to migrate the materials library. I have a materials library that I created in 2012 and I would like to migrate it to 2013.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have successfully opened a STEP file from our Engineering group and saved it away as an Inventor Assembly. I would like to define Materials and/or Surface finishes for all parts. Why wouldn't the Surfaces and Materials synchronize between the Styudio's Surface Creator and the BOM Materials Control in the Assembly area?
I have found the way to define a new Surface in the "Inventor Studio" Interface and saved it with a unique name. Now, I would like to assign that Surface as a Material to the parts in the assembly ... and of course I would like to define numerous other surfaces and materials for assignment to all the parts throughout the assembly. Finally, I would like these surfaces / materials to follow the model into Showcase for presentation purposes.
Is it possible to change materials mid animation in inventor 2012? Essentially, im looking to rotate a camera arround an assembly, make the enclosure glass and do it again.
Additionally, Is there a way to use animations already created in an ipt file (using the same model) in Inventor Studio?
I am lookng for a way to allow multiple material selections for a drawing/model
We have components that avaialable in both 304 and 316. We have seperated stock codes for each of the selections what I would like to do is to come up with a way that I don't need multiple models of these features. The deisgns are virtually the same except for the material change.
In previous cad systems I used a tabled system in the model that would allow you to vary paramters such as Iproperties or even dimensions in one model.
This elimated duplication of work includeing double maintenance for the models?
Is there a way to associate layers to materials so when they are placed in a drawing they are automatically placed on the proper layer. I have line weights set for each individual layer and would like each material component to have its own line weight.

Is there a way to add new materials to physical properties?
Is there a cloud feature in Inventor for drawings, or is that something that can only be done in Autocad Mechanical and Mechanical Desktop?
I am trying to load CATIA v5 files into Inventor 2013, which works great. However, the materials applied to the object in CATIA are not being imported. Instead the colors from the "Properties" dialog in CATIA are being applied. Is it possible to somehow maintain the materials? Since the constraints aren't imported either, I would have to reapply the materials for every position of this certain object (for renders), because adding the constraints in Inventor is too much work to be doing again.
