AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 Materials Refresh Styles / Will Not Pull In Updates

Mar 17, 2013

in versions of inventor prior to 2013 we were able to quickly and easily refresh a part styles, and thereby obtain the master information for materials, colours and any other style.

i find that now, with the new system of managing materials and appearances that if i need to update a part to reflect the material assests that reside in my materials and appearance library that i have to:

1. open the part, then set the part material to a material other than that i wish to update, then

2. delete the local/ document asset of the material i wish to update, then,

3.  assign the material from my material library to the part (to get the library assets to come through to the part).

it seems ridiculous that we have to delete local materials or colours prior to obtaining an updated material or appearance to get the new data into the part.

(the refresh styles command actually appears to be calling in the updates however the updates seem to treat the document assets as the most important. even when managing materials and appearances, the local/document asset seems to take priority over any library asset. again this is different to pre 2013, and is frustratingly slow to work around. all that used to happen in 2012 and prior is we would get a warning that the local style would be overwritten with updated style data = very quick and easy

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Migrate Materials And Colors Styles

Sep 18, 2012

We have just migrated from Inventor 2009 to Inventor 2013 - I was thinking to migrate the old IV 2009 materials and colors to a new library. The migration dialog box in IV 2013 requires XML files while the export from IV 2009 generates STYXML files.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheet Metal Styles / Materials

I have set up sheet metal thicknesses in my templates, Now with the Material globe I call it at the top I see the materials and change them to whichever gauge but it does not take update the sheet metal part thickness, how do I get it where I can change it there and it updates the part. I have to go into sheetmetal defaults and change it there for it to update the part to the correct thickness.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Deriving Materials And Sheet Metal Styles

Oct 7, 2013

Deriving components is a good thing.  Unfortunately, there is no way (at least that I know of) to derive the material fields from the source object.  It's a little more complex when deriving sheet metal objects.  In that situation, you not only cannot derive the material, but you also cannot derive the sheet metal styles; but you can the thickness.

Either something I am missing through the "derive component" command, or an iLogic rule that would work?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Duplicate Materials In Sheet Metal Rule Styles

Aug 3, 2012

So I'm in the midst of redoing my Sheet Metal Rules, and custom materials, since the update to 2013 kind of destroyed that.  I created a new material library, to house all of my custom Materials in.  I set it to be the only Material Library in the project, so now when I open up a file in that project, I only see my Custom material list, and that works fine when I go into the iProperties as well, the material list shows up correctly.

But when I go into the Styles Editor, and go to add my new custom Materials to my Sheet Metal Rules, the list of materials is shown in duplicate.  I have attached a couple of screenshots of me opening the iProperties, and the Sheet Metal Rules in the same file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 - List Materials From All Libraries?

Nov 8, 2013

is it posible to list all the materials from all libraries and catagories from Inventor 2013?

I am using this at the moment: Dim oMat As Inventor.Material For Each oMat In oApp.StylesManager.Materials            comboMaterial.Items.Add(oMat.Name.ToString)         Next

This works but only pulls through and lists the "Inventor Material Library" materials by default.

What is strange though is that when I apply a material from another library to a part then its almost like that library is now active and if the routine is run again it only pulls through materials from that library and not the "Inventor Material Library" again.

I know in 2014 its better supported but is there a way to get all materials in 2013?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Restore Or Fix Default Materials And Appearances In 2013

Oct 21, 2012

How do I go about restoring, repairing or fixing the default materials and appearances that come installed with Inventor Pro 2013?  I have a stand-alone single seat installation.  SP 1.1 has been installed.

I tried to create a custom library of materials and appearances by making a copy of InventorMaterialLibrary.adsklib and renaming it.  I then added new materials.  Depending on project, I get nag messages regarding template styles in conflict with the library styles.  I'm also getting message warning me that the InventorMaterialLibrary can't get loaded.

It is my intent to create a custom materials and appearances library that mimics the as installed InventorMaterialLibrary plus some additional materials and appearances.  The custom library and appearances need to be available to all NEW projects and MAY be added to existing projects without getting the nag message about style conflicts.

I'm also seeing a behavior where the default appearance changes from standard light gray to the first appearance listed in the Autodesk Appearance Library, the 1.5 inch blue tile.  I suspect that's the reason I'm getting the nag message.    How do I fix this?  How do I prevent this from happening in the future?

1) Restoring default as installed material and appearance libraries

2) Creating a custom materials and appearance library to contains ALL items found in the InventorMaterialLibrary plus new materials and appearances

3) Preventing nag style conflict messages

4) Preventing the default appearance of light gray to change to the 1.5 inch blue tile

The machine I'm currently using needs to be ready to go in the morning.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 - Styles Conflict

Jul 31, 2012

So I have migrated my template.  Now when I start a new assembly, I get the "Styles Conflict" message. I could suppress it, but I'd rather not.I had rather that the file use the style definition in the style library. So I have to update the template with the new style definintion.  Question is how to do that now in 2013?

I opened the template, then went to the Material Browser.  In the righ hand pane, I picked the "Generic" material and then the up arrow (add material to document).  I get a message that it already exists and the local copy will be used.

How do I get it to overwrite the local copy and use the styles definition in my library?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 Crashing When Migrating Styles From 2011?

May 27, 2013

I'm trying to migrate our styles library from Inventor 2011 to 2013 using the style library manager.  I have the current (2013) library loaded in the first slot, and my old 2011 library loaded in the second slot.  Under the 2011 library, the Migrate button is active.

I click Migrate, and after telling me it can take up to 2 minutes to migrate the library, it proceeds.  After about two minutes, I get a progress box generated by Inventor (not the style library manager) that indicates it is copying some 1300 files from one location, to another.  I can't tell if it is the same location or not, as the filepaths are truncated in the progress box.

As it finishes, usually with one file remaining, I get the "Autodesk Inventor 2013 Has stopped working" error.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly etc. etc.

I do not relish having to go back and manually define all my styles.

Context: Product Design Suite Ultimate 2013, Win 7 Pro, 12 GB ram.  I've tried both with and without my antivirus realtime scan on.

AutoCAD Inventor :: New Style Missing From Local Styles / Yet Appears In All Styles?

Aug 8, 2012

We've created a new parts list style for a border. When the border tempalt file is on the c: drive...everything works hunky dory...parts list, revision tables, etc.But as soon as we copy and paste that border into the template library folder for new drgs...the parts list style is missing from the local styles?

So to make it appear on the new document...the style manager has to be set at all styles and the new parts list style has to be saved to the document? What aren't we doing to make it appear on the template?

Also note that because the drawing border template is in a template folder as part of the design projects...it is NOT editable...so it has to be edited outside the template folder.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Refresh Sheet After IProperty Changes

is there way to refresh sheet of drawing when an iProperty is changed trough API? When I change for example revision Number, the sheet still show old number. The value is changed, because if I open the iProperty dialog, there is new value and also when iProperty dialog is close then the sheet (title block with this property) is immediately correctly updated. I know that I can use ActiveSheet.Update method, but this update whole sheet and it take long time. There nust be something better because dialog iProperty doesnot update whole sheet and it is vvery quick.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Display Randomly Freezes And Won't Refresh

Feb 8, 2011

Anyway, I just updated to the Factory Design Suite Advanced package for 2011 which, of course, includes Inventor.  I have downloaded and installed all updates, service packs and hotfixes I could find btw.  What happens is I'll be working in Inventor on a solid model of ANY size (even a single part) and with absolutely no warning, the display window will freeze up and won't refresh.  What's really weird though is that Inventor itself is not locked up.  I can click on any of the buttons or any of the items shown in the browser as though the program's running normally.  I can check the task manager and it shows Inventor to be running normally.  The memory status bar in Inventor shows lots of available memory.  I can even hover over the display window in the area where the view steering wheel is located and the icon will change appearance as though it's working normally.  I can even save the file.  If I close the file, it responds like normal and goes back to the default screen.  If I try to open ANY file after that, however, the screen will not refresh or show me the file I opened, even though everything else works fine and the program isn't frozen.  The only way to restore full function is to completely close and reopen Inventor (on average I have to do this about once an hour).  Btw, I'm also working in a local directory stored on my hard drive, not a network.

My first inkling is that it's a graphics issue but I have played with all the display settings to no avail.  I ran a diagnostic on the video card and Inventor says that I'm running an Autodesk Certified driver.  All the specs are within reason I think.

My workstation specs:

Dell Precision M4500 laptop

Intel core i7 processor, 2.67 GHz

4 GB RAM

Windows XP Professional SP3, 32-bit, running in 3 GB mode

NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M, 1 GB graphics card (just updated the driver too...no change)

230 GB hard drive, 136 GB free space

AutoCAD Inventor :: Virtual Memory Counter Won't Refresh

Jan 3, 2012

I'm currently using Inventor Professional 2012, and have been experiencing problems with virtual memory usage.  In past versions of Inventor, the small bar graph counter at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (Virtual memory counter?  Not sure what to call it...) would "re-fresh" after closing a model, drawing, etc. (i.e. Once closing the file, the counter would change from yellow to green, bringing the virtual memory usage back to zero).  However, this isn't happening with 2012, and I'm not sure if the problem is the way Inventor was installed onto my workstation, or if it's a problem with the hardware.  A temporary solution has been to shut down Inventor when the bar graph gets too far into the yellow range (or red), and then starting up Inventor again.

Specs for my workstation are as follows: Windows 7 (32-bit), processor is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU W3503 @ 2.4GHz 2.39GHz, 3GB RAM.
