AutoCAD Inventor :: When Opening A File The Browser Will Not Open?
Jun 16, 2010
It is my first time using inventor, so I am obviously not experienced with it in the least. Whenever I open any file, part, assembly, etc... the ribbon shows up fine, but the browser will not show up, and I cannot find a way to turn it on or off (if that is even a possibility).
I have my PS CS file browser preferences set to "High Quality Previews" and the previews look great--sharp and crisp! However, when I actually open up the image it doesn't seem as sharp--it's a little soft.
What is the "high quality preview" doing to make it look so sharp? Does anyone know what settings the preview is using?
I want my actual images to look as sharp as the previews! It seems like a major teaser that the preview looks BETTER than the opened image.
using IV2012 within the same project file i have three models. one model i can open parts or assemblies from the browser or right click on the component on the window. the other two models upon the right click or selecting in the browser the open or the edit are not available as an operation.

I seem to be the master at trying to open a file that is already open. Then of course I get the window that pops up and says it is already open, then I have to close that window and the one behind it just so I can go click a button to view the one I was originally after.
Is there a way to just set it that when you try to open a file that is already open that it would just allow that drawings to jump in front of the rest of the drawings open instead?
I'm using the following sample code to add files to a browser folder
Public Sub AddOccurrencesToFolder()
Dim oDoc As AssemblyDocument Set oDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
Dim oDef As AssemblyComponentDefinition Set oDef = oDoc.ComponentDefinition
Dim oPane As BrowserPane Set oPane = oDoc.BrowserPanes.ActivePane
[Code]....
How do I get the files added to an existing " My Occurrence Folder" rather than creating a new one. Every time I run the code a new folder is created, it does not use the exisitng one
I opened the drawing and then from the drawing opened the model. In the drawing it is showing the 4th instance of ROUND CRS-032175 X 33 as an assembly. It also is not showing in the view and yet the visibility is checked. AI2012 SP2
I am trying to use the Browsernode.addchild method to add an occurence to an empty browser folder. The code fails at this point and I gett an error pointing to the line "Call oTargetNode.AddChild(oSourceNodeDef)". I can add the occurence with the browserpanes.Reorder method without issue if the folder is not empty. The code is pasted Below.

Is there a way to rename browser nodes within a part in a similar way that the rename browser nodes tool works in assemblies? I am copying designs with derived parts, after copying the design I can see that the part files contain the correct links to other parts when I open the base component but they display as the old name in the browser which is not ideal.
we've loaded Inventor 2012 on an new PC and it did not load the "FILE STATUS" box under the Model Tab in the Browser - I know there is a way to "turn" it on but have lost those instructions.
I am looking to apply a set part number iproperty to the first, then second, then third components in the assembly browser tree in my iLogic rule, regardless of their current part number. (I need to select them by their position in the browser tree as their part number will vary). How do I do this?
for file naming format i use numbering scheme rule.
in the vault browser is eazy to show the description from each part, search by description etc.
but when ia want to select from inventor, for example i want to replace component from vault or add component from vault. i can't see this description.
my question is, how to show the description in the file browser from inventor?
I work with several files at a time and it can become annoying when you open several files and a minimized file keeps opening after each one. I don't want to have it open in the background, I just want it to stay minimized until I'm ready to work with it.
I just migrated from 2006 to 2012... I was able to get my old custom tool palettes into 2012 by opening the Content Browser and idropping them. However I noticed that these palettes are not 'refreshable' like they used to be. In the Palette Properties it says *This palette is not shared from a catalog*... after doing a search of that message in these forums I found this thread: [URL]....
I followed David's instructions:
1. Created a new Palette Group
2. Created a new palette in that Group
3. i-dropped tools from my custom catalog in the Content Browser onto that new palette.
Before, whilst in Google Inspect on any webpage I could drag an image onto the Photoshop application icon on the dock = opens up in Photoshop + with PNG transparency.
Now this has stopped working for an unknown reason about 2-3 months ago after updating. I'll drag the image over the application icon on the dock as before, but then nothing opens. As a result, my workflow is now more inefficient and inconvenient.
I have tried to export some simple 2D sketches I created in Inventor into a DWG format used in AutoCAD (which I will eventually turn into a DXF file). However, AutoCAD shows a blank dark screen when I open the DWG file. Is there something that I am missing during the export process?
Yesterday inventor worked fine, I made 3 new parts. But today when I wanted to put these parts together in an assembly and I try opening a new file, inventor crashes?
I still can open projects, but can't create a new project.
PS. I'm using Inventor 2014 Student Version with service pack 1 on Windows 8.1
I just became a part of the Student Community here, and downloaded Inventor Pro. I actually had some problems right off the bat: some kb971153 file was missing, so I had to find a hotfix from MS and install it before it would let me install Inventor.
Anyway, I opened up Inventor, and found that within seconds of loading up a new .ipt file, my computer would freeze. I can confirm that ctrl+alt+del, mashing several other buttons in frustration, and thinking of creative ways to use four-letter words to describe the situation don't work. As far as I can tell, .dwg files work just fine, it's just the .ipt ones that are kick my blood pressure up a notch.
If I remember correctly, the hotfix had to do with individual licensing or something, so it shouldn't be the cause right? Everything else on the computer works just fine; if I downloaded the wrong fix or something, I figure I'd see some problems with the computer overall. So I'm lost. Maybe it has to do with the stuff the .ipt file is trying to load or access but, either way, it's causing me to have to turn my computer via power button, something I'd rather avoid.
I am having an issue opening a SolidWorks file in Inventor. The file is a native SolidWorks .sldprt file. This is the procedure I followed: File-Open in Inventor, changed file type to SolidWorks Files and selected the file on my computer to be opened. I then recieve an HTML error message stating "Error - Translation failed. This version is not supported." I am currently using Inventor 2013. I received the file from one of our sister companies and we were hoping to be able to exchange native files easily using Inventors built in translator.
Any translator or add-in that would work to open files of this type.
We are currently using Inventor 2013 without Vault and I discovered that multiple users can open the same IPT file at the same time with no warning message or read only access like we get in Autocad. We have 6 designers all using the same Project that is a single user project. We normally don't have more than no person working on the same part or assembly, but it did happen. Two designers opened the same file to make separate changes not knowing that the other was in the file. Not until one of them went to save the file did he know someone else was also in the file. When he went to save the file he then got a warning - "A later version of this file has been saved by (user). Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command." In Autocad if you try to open a file that someone else has open you get the warning right away and are forced to open it read only or not at all. Is there a way to set Inventor to do the same thing? Other than using Vault and having to checkin/checkout every file. Our six designers work on an average of 50+ parts per week and many times have multiple files open at the same time to use as reference. Also the shop floor opens our files to use for programming and asking them to checkin/checkout files would not be received well. The shop floor has "read only" rights as determined by our network. Does our network settings determine if more than one person can open the same file?
I'm getting this error (see attachment) when I try to open an NX file in Inventor 2011. I've downloaded the file from a data transfer site and I can preview the part in the preview window, but it does not open properly. This is the first time this has happened, as I've converted files before with no problem.
I just installed Autocad Architecture 2009 on a new computer. Content Browser will not open from the drop down menu or from the Start menu. I have now uninstalled Autocad Architecture 2009 and all Autodesk applications, deleting all folders and autocad registry folders then re-installed with no sucess. Everything else seems to be working fine.
I was wondering if there was an option to set Inventor to display the full file path for the current file open ? At present I am only seeing a short description of the name of the active file - I wish to see it's full file path similar to what AutoCAD displays.

I am using Inventor 2012, service pack 1 is installed as is hotfix DL17804781.
When opening certain Catia files, I get a Runtime Error. After I click ok, Inventor closes without the ability to send a crash report. I never had this issue using Inventor 2011, so I am not sure if it is new to 2012 or if I have something else going on.
