AutoCAD Inventor :: Unlock Master View Representations

View 4 RepliesHow can I block the View representations on Master, so that when I reopen the asembly it is on Master, or, the view I want ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I do a model update through an ilogic form my View representation changes from default to master and then i have to go and manually change them back to default also in my idw files in order to update the drawing files I have to go in and change the view representation from default to master click ok and close it then open view edit set it to default and close. Is this normal? Is there a setting so that my model views will stay on default?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk I am struggling with this again. Some how when my assembly was made I had several work planes visable on several subassemblies. No big deal, I will just go to the subassemblies, turn them off and save them and all will be fixed right? Wrong, the assembly still opens with the work planes showing. So I expand the subassemblies and turn the visability off in the top level assembly. Now when I attempt to save the assembly I am told that the master view is locked and I need to create a new view. But I don't ever want all the work planes on and I don't want to create a new view because that leads to not being able to save a linked assembly or drawing if the wrong thing is open somewhere.
How do I unlock the master view to be able to save it with the planes turned off?
There is some association between prints and view representations i am missing. My typical process is:
-Build a model
-Create a representation
-Lock the representation
-Create a print from that representation
-Create a new representation and continue to work on the model
When i go back to the original print there is parts flying everywhere (see attached picture - hope you get a kick out of it)
It seems that Views are easier to use, are there any benefits of View option over Level of Detail and vice versa?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI created view representations in my assembly, for example a column with k-polates and base plates, the column is a FG part, so now i create drawings and place views on that drawing, what i am askign for is I want to place the name of the view representation in my view label as a paramater so in the event i change my view names in my model they update in my drawing, this is important because i can create a cross referance to my 3D DWXF file views.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDesign view representations in an iPart file are not included in the generated members after installing Inventor 2014 SP2 (and also in Update 1).
In the attached part factory, the two work planes are included in the members. They would need to be individually set invisible in each assembly view representation because the members only have the Master view representation.
Is there a way to have the parts list filter to show only the visible parts from the view representation, especially the quantities? I thought that was what the filter is for. And if not then what is the filter used for?

I have an assembly with a client feature that contains client graphics. I have exposed the visibility (ClientFeature.Definition.ClientGraphicsCollection[1].Visible) to the user via a context menu option. Changing the visibility currently affects all view representations. Is there a way to associate the visibility with each design view representation?

I have a assembly with several locked design view reps.
I insert a couple of new parts to assembly.
Now, do i have to manually unlock each of the design reps to have these new parts visible in the each of then design view reps?
If yes, any macro or ilogic tool to do this?

I have an assy in which I have created work planes which are huge and annoying, so I make them invisible but when I save the assy I get a message saying the Design Current Design view representation.... blah blah..... or Unlock the Current one.
How do I unlock the Master View Rep.
I have a macro to change the thumbnails of a part, but my parts have not always the "Master view" active.

I thought I kind of understood level of detail and master views but apparently not. I have an I-Beam that I have cut and bent in the part file. In the drawing I would like to show the beam both full length and in the bend configuration. From my reading I thought I would be able to create one view with the part in final shape and one view where I suppress all the bends and show the part with the cuts in it but all flattened out. I created view1 with the part bent, I then created view 2 and supressed all the bends. Unfortunately the bare does not toggle back and forth in the part, and when I place the part in a drawing. I am still not bale to have a difference in the part in the drawing with the two configurations either. What is the proper method of obtaining the two different views?
Also is there a way to request software enhancements?
We create many large assemblies where the shop uses a cut sheet to make the parts. Since many of the parts have secondary opperations like forming or cutting done to them i like to create a second sheet with the piece parts dimensioned on the sheet. In SolidWorks i would simply create the views, create an assembly BOM and link the balloons to that BOM, end of story. Not in Inventor! And creating a million LOD views to hide all but the one part in each view is not an answer for a professional CAD program.

when open an assembly not all parts are shown. To be able to see entire assymbly need to change View representation to Master manually. How to achieve this in Ilogic?

I didn't want to hijack that thread to ask my question. We're deploying C3D 2014 "soon" -- does the above is still true in 2014?

I'm trying to employ a technique that I've used with SolidWorks. I'm working on a project with several engineers doing design work on a large assembly. The way I've seen this handled in a SolidWorks shop is to create a master assembly with sketches on the principal planes that define envelopes for sub assemblies, interface dimensions, and so on. Each engineer can have the master assembly in their sub assembly, as a guide. Where I've used this before, it has worked with integrating the sub assemblies later on.
Here's the complication: There are several different "families" of the product that require different dimensions on the master sketches. What I had hoped to do in Inventor was use view representations or level of detail representation to control the visibility of these "families" of master sketches. When an engineer includes the master assembly in his sub assembly he could then easily turn on the "family" he wants to see. But it turns out that neither view representations nor level of detail representations influence the visibility of sketches. (Position representations don't, either.) Sketches are either visible or not visible, regardless of which representation you're in.
Is there some way I can control the visibility of sketches, in groups?
I have set up my assembly file so that it has the master and two other positions. When I switch from position one, to position two, it works fine. But when I go into inventor studio, and try to create an animation by using Pos Reps, it will not do anything.I do sometimes get an error saying that Excel is required. I do have the latest version of Excel installed on my machine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using 2011 pro. When I try to animate a positional rep in inventor studio, it complains that I don't have excel installed. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm configuring a band with different supports. Each support is configured with a range; 600-900, 900-1200, 1200-1500 etc. those ranges can be adjust by 50mm and those steps are specified by the pos reps (see attached image).
All the different supports are put in the top assembly and in this assembly I want to switch between the positional representations. I tried to use:
ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinition.RepresentationsManager.PositionalRepresentations("MyPosRep").Activate
But it won't work. I guess I have to replace "ComponentDefinition" in one way or another to the component name, but I don't know how.
Is there a way to reorder positional representations in the browser. I'd like to keep them in order of how the assembly will function. That way, it's easier to create the animation in Studio. See attached image.

2) Partially machined or rough machined
3) Final machined
What is the most basic bullet-proof way to show this? Three different models? What is the procedure to change the representation to show changes in the model? Why does suppressing a machining feature in one representation change all representations? The rough part is brought into an assembly and the machining or removal of material happens in the assembly.
Just got upgraded to version 2013 by IT. Seeing that AD still can't maintain consistency from vers to vers. This version replaced 'Color Styles" with 'Appearances'. But, not just appearances, you have Document Appearances, the Autodesk Material Libray, the Autodesk Appearance Library, and the Inventor Material Library.
Why would the Material libraries show up when clicking the Appearances button when there is another button right beside it to get to Materials.
I mean, who is really going to use several dozen different types of flooring. And why is some metal in the metal category and some in default Category. And then some is in the metal Type and some in the generic Type. Is there really a need for two fields for organizing 'appearances' ? If this were a graphical design program I couls see some of this but it is a cad program. Seems like a case of trying to tailor one product to too many markets.
To the question. How do I unlock the Autodesk Appearance Library so I can get rid of all the junk I don't need and add some really obvious ones that are not there.
Is it possible to have an idw file of a part as the master idw and insert that idw into a new idw or a few different idw files and the secondary idw files that were inserted update when the master idw file is edted or updated?
I am using the same ipt in multiple assemblies and i would only like to update one idw file. I do need to have as many as eight different idw files related to the single part and i would like to only update the master idw file.
I was making some changes the other day to the parts list settings inside of the styles editor and discovered that this involved needing to make the master project file a read/write condition. I was starting to get into uncharted territory at this point, but was proceeding with caution. So I went into my vault working folder in windows explorer and RC'd on the MPF and changed it to read/write. I made my BOM changes and life seemed to be good on the heals of a long holiday weekend. I changed the properties of the MPF back to read only and I thought things were fine.
Until yesterday when I started getting this message. This shows up every time I open and check out a file from Vault. Plus it also changes my MPF on my local drive back to read/write. I am also starting to get this error message when I start a new drawing file as well.
the activation is failed because the serial number i've enterred is not valid. i install AutiCAD LT on tha same computer with new Operating System(Win7)

I have made an assembly with a lot of "Positions" (in the Representations). See browser.
Is it possible to change/edit one of the Positions (In the Representation tree) to be the Master Position?
