I have just downloaded an educational version of Inventor. Although I can create sketches I cannot extrude the sketch to form a solid. The origin arrow heads appear over size and it seems as if the origin plane is being extruded to form a solid!
View 2 RepliesI'm creating a template part to line the inside of a wall with wall boards. All the boards are drawn as an array of seperate solid bodies which are to be made into components once the windows and appertures have been extruded out.
The problem is when the wall changes to a shorter length and then back again. the solids are re-created and the extrusion e.g. Window1 does not have the new solids in it's effected solids list, so I get an error.
Is there a way to set the extrusions "effected solids" (Not sure if that's the correct term) to all the solids all the time through iLogic or the API?
I am trying to create a sketch on a face for an extrusion. The sketch has a text box. I am having trouble excluding the text in a sketch otherwise all the closed geometries of the text get extruded.
I created an objectCollection and excluded the TextBox objects. Still not working.
how can I "remove" the extrusion from a 3d object?

I've got a DWG file generated from a software called 12D. It contains a polyline model of an embankment. I've imported it into Max and wanted to create 3D solids out of it so I can further manipulate this model and render.
I'm struggling to convert it into a 3D solid. I have tried the extrude and loft modifiers, but unable to get them to loft or extrude along the poly lines.
So I' thinking I may recreate the whole object from scratch vertex by vertex. How I can create a solid without recreating the whole object?

This is a part from an inmported step file. The Inv assembly consists of 1047 part files.
I did the following:
Immediatley grounded all parts in the assembly.Opened the 8 (of the 1047) parts that came through as surfaces, all the rest are solid.
Found missing faces on all of them. I found the most useful tool was to create a series of section planes and do sketches with projected cut edges. Then export the sketches and open in autocad. This way I can see a simple line section view.
I set about replacing the missing faces to get the surface to a solid.After a few attempts I managed what you see below, a solid part in the browser. The part will now mirror as a new solid, but will not join. I have tried mirror as single solid, derive as single solid and combine. All Fail.
I have been working for an hour trying to add this split to this part. I have an extruded surface (ExtrusionSrf10) that I need to use as the parting line. When I try this all I get is a "Create parting line failed.....Errors occurred during update".
I have done this many times on other parts, this one is being a pain. I need the split to have two solids when its done. The reason that I want this is so I can sculpt out a portion of this block.

why am i not able to open solid work files? The files were made in 2008 in solid work. I ma trying to open them in 2011 INV. I am also checking the box as showing the attachment.
There is a option to open solid work *asm* files. why it is not working?
I have created a simple pipe fitting family, a soil vent pipe terminal infact, but I cannot get the solid body created from a rotated profile to be cut by an arrayed extrusion void. I keep getting the error message, 'Can't keep the elements joined'!

With Autocad .Net Api, I can use GetObjectMesh(DbObject obj, MeshFaceterData parameter). Does in the Inventor Api a similar function exist?
In the parameters I need to set the deviation in the same way as in the Autocad .Net Api.
Example:
FaceterDevNormal = 0.1;
FaceterDevSurface = 0.1;
FaceterMeshType = 2;
I have two .dwg files that represent two different surfaces. I would like to import each .dwg file into Inventor, then create a solid with the original surfaces serving as the top and bottom. I can send the .dwg files if necessary.

How to create a Circular Pattern of the Solid Object by VBA. I tried it by calculation Polar Transformations but was unsuccessful.

My boss asked me to do a part for GibbsCAM which includes a 7/8" left hand wire rope imprint in a block of steel for this afternoon's production. I have my block done, what is the best way to do this? I'm thinking create a wire rope solid to cut out of my block. Would I use the thread tool: that's not the same but would it work?... The above code in the API help shows how to do an associative or a non-associative copy in an assembly of one part into another part. ..BUT the non-associative copy does not always work correctly....
I have been testing this sample code and notice the following limitations with the lower part entitled “Create a non-associative solid base feature in the second part”...
The code uses the proxy body for the source object but it does not use the proxybody for the target object and therefore the relative positioning is wrong for the nonparametricbasefeature when it is created in the target object if the real target body is in a different place than the targetbodyproxy (e.g. it has been rotated/moved in assembly space).
I notice that if you perform this manually using the “copy object” button the relative positioning is maintained correctly even if both target and source objects have been rotated/moved in the assembly...

Press/pull has been working fine up until now. When I try to press/pull a boundary, it creates an invisible extrusion rather than cutting into the object.

The part in question is just a simple cylinder (I'm verifying what would be the best meshing spec to use in a larger assembly).
now a have a typical error to insert in my assambly a item from my content center, reciveing a erro like "unable to create component", i´m looking for a solution inside forums and find a solution but didn´t work for me, the solution watched and did for me as deleted of the content folder "CACHE" in my computer C:/....all users/inventor..../cache.
I use AI2009 with SP1.
What can i do, delete all families from content center and upload again?
I'm trying to create a simple 8x2 extrusion that will represent an aluminum band on a building elevation. The length varies by instance but needs to be reportable in a schedule (preferably using the "Length" shared parameter name.
I've never used reporting parameters before but have made an attempt at it in the attached file. The parameter of Length displays the stretched length in the properties box but won't appear in a schedule. The Instance Length parameter will appear in a schedule but doesn't always show the correct value.
I'll note that this family was adapted from one already created by someone else and the Length label cannot be deleted. It's as if the file was at one time a template. However, I've tried it from scratch, too and can't get it to work, sometimes not even being able to get the family to allow stretching the length.
I want to creat a flatpattern of an iregulary cut cylinder that was made in the standard .ipt world and is now converted into a sheetmetal. I want to "Unroll" the piece out so can see the shape of it as a flat piece. Picture of it is attached.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't get Inventor to create a flat pattern of the attached sheetmetal part. It's a pretty basic part, just five folds. I'm not getting any error issues - when I go to the flat pattern it just shows the folded part (picture attached).
I assume it has something to do with the way I folded it and the notches, etc. Inv makes to accomplish the fold. I'm using Inventor 2013 on Win 8.
I have one particular file which will not allow me to add an iLogic form. When I select "Add Form" it does nothing. This only happens in this one file. I can open other files in the same session and they work fine. I can add iLogic rules to this file but I can't create forms.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Inventor Professional 2012 Student Version, and I'm unable to create a new file, as the program crashes as I try to do so.
After starting Inventor, I select New than Standard.ipt. The file starts loading, the status of the loading process can be seen in the bottom left corner, than the "Open Documets in Session" counter in the bottom right corner changes from 0 to 1, as it should, I guess. And than, the program freezes. Sometimes, a message appears after several minutes that an error has occured, and that I should send an error report to Autodesk (which I did); but sometimes, no message appears at all, it simply crashes.
My computer specs are: Intel Core 2 @1,86 GHz, 2 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 9800 GTX, 60 GB free space, Windows Vista (hotfix installed) Not a powerhouse, but I think it should be able to start a file properly I think, if I understand the system requirements correctly.
