AutoCAD Inventor :: Skeletal Modeling - Cannot Use 3D Sketch Lines In Skeleton Base Part

Sep 14, 2011

Why can i use lines from a 3d sketch to constraint a part to a skeleton base part?

I have attached a example where i try to constraint the tube.ipt using 3D geometry lines of the part  Layout_3d_sketch.ipt in the assembly teste.iam, but i'm unable to select any lines from that file.

Why can't i use this 3D sketch lines in a skeleton base part?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hide Part Sketch Construction Lines?

May 16, 2011

Is there any way to hide construction lines in Part & Assembly sketches in the same way you can in a Drawing sketch?

I know you can change the line colour to the background colour but this makes the lines invisible in sketch as well.

Not being able to hide the construction is making some layouts pretty pointless since relevant detail is obscured by the construction lines. Grounding the geommetry and deleting the construcion lines isn't an option since the sketches are part of the design development and not fixed.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 3D Sketch Base On UCS

Mar 5, 2012

I want to make some points in 3D sketch base on the Coordinate System that I defined (UCS).Is there any solution to make these points in 3D sketch just by inputing their coordinates in my UCS?

Example:  the new UCS origin has (x,y,z) coordinates from the origin.and one of the points has the coordinates of (x',y',z') from the UCS.

So from the origin it has the coordinates of (x+x',y+y',z+z').Is it possible to just use (x',y',z') from UCS directly to get my point?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Copy Part Sketch Into Drawing Sketch

Sep 20, 2012

How do I duplicate the 2D line work from a part level sketch into a drawing level (overlay) sketch?

I started a simple 2D piping system diagram sketch by opening a new part file and using a sketch to stick draw the system schematic including some annotations.  Then I opened a new drawing file and made a base view of the part file to bring a view of the original sketch into the drawing.

I realize now that it would have been much easier to have created the schematic directly in a 2D sketch at the drawing level, which would have made editing the annotations much easier at the drawing level, and there is really no need for the part file to exist.  I have no intention of creating a 3D model or "real" part in the .ipt file, was just using it as a jumping off point to sketch.

I was thinking that I could correct my error in judgment by just copying the sketch and pasting it into a new sketch on the drawing, but it doesn't want to work that way.  I have tried copying both the whole sketch at the browser level, and the entire sketch contents (all of the lines and annotations) from the opened part sketch, but when I attempt to paste either of those into the drawing, paste does not seem to be an option.  I'd rather not have to draw the whole thing again, as in typical fashion, my once simple sketch has grown in proportion and complexity from its simple beginning.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator Assembly - Unable To Modify Base 3D Sketch

Aug 2, 2013

I've just started working on a frame generator assembly I was modelling earlier this year; I can't seem to modify the base 3D sketch. The feature which looks like the original 3D sketch is now called the "Reference Skeleton" and I am unable to modify it at all.

I am working on a copy of the original part as I "save as" the whole master assembly when I was last working on the model. I don't know if this would have effected anything.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheet Metal ILogic Rule Not Executing On Non-rectangular Base Sketch?

Aug 5, 2013

I have a template that I have created, in it I have a rule that changes the stock number and description based on which sheet metal rule is selected.   The weird thing is it works correctly if the first sketch is a rectangle.  If you sketch a circular shape and make that the face it will not work.  It blanks out the values for the stock number and description.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Merits Of Layout Modeling Or Multi-Body Part Modeling?

Nov 16, 2012

As CAD administrator at my company, which is in the process of implementing Inventor/Vault, I am quite sold on the Layout Modeling/Multi-body part modeling functionality that Inventor supports.  Among other things I believe there is a large payoff in assembly stability and simplicity.  However, this workflow is very different from the conventional methods of modeling individual parts and manually constraining assemblies. AutoCAD Inventor :: Make 2 To Sketch Lines Instead Of Floating Lines?

Jan 28, 2013

Is there any way to make 2 to sketch lines instead of floating lines so that I can dimension them?

For example, if I have a part that can change lengths and I need to print off a new drawing, it would be good if I could say that the lines were a set distance from each end of the part or some features of the part.

Then I could update the part length, then just open the part drawing and not have to adjust anything.

Is there and easy way to change the base component of a derived part?

The way I use to do it, is to rename the base component. Then open the derived part, and point to the new base component after the "error message".

In the idw environment there is a "Replace Model Reference"" which does it for 2D drawings.

btw. I use Inventor 2013.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Non-associative Solid Base Feature In Second Part

Sep 19, 2013

“Associative body copy API Sample” 2013 API help.

The above code in the API help shows how to do an associative or a non-associative copy in an assembly of one part into another part. ..BUT the non-associative copy does not always work correctly....

I have been testing this sample code and notice the following limitations with the lower part entitled “Create a non-associative solid base feature in the second part”...

The code uses the proxy body for the source object but it does not use the proxybody for the target object and therefore the relative positioning is wrong for the nonparametricbasefeature when it is created in the target object if the real target body is in a different place than the targetbodyproxy (e.g. it has been rotated/moved in assembly space).

I notice that if you perform this manually using the “copy object” button the relative positioning is maintained correctly even if both target and source objects have been rotated/moved in the assembly...

Maya Modeling :: How To Bind Skeleton Of Character To Skin

I'm just trying to learn the very basics of making a simple character. When I paint on any polygon shape, the same paint stroke is painted on all the polygon shapes of my character. What i've noticed though is if I separate the polygon meshes I can paint on them separately, but then that makes it impossible for me to bind the skeleton of the character to the skin.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Skeletal Sketches And Copy

Oct 29, 2012

we very often create parts/assemblies using skeletal sketches, problem we encounter is that when we use the copy command in the components area on the ribbon.

The problem we have is that when we open the new assembly and components they are still looking at the original skeletal sketch. is there anyway to copy the orginal skeletal sketch to a new one and the new parts look at this upon using the copy.

At present what we do is make a copy and rename the original file. Then open the assembly and it looks for the original skeletal sketch, so we point it at the new skeletal sketch.

This is not an issue when we have a couple of parts in an assembly but if you have a lot of parts in the assembly it si very time consuming.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Constraining A 3D Sketch To A Part

Dec 13, 2011

I am trying to make a 3D sketch that is constrained to two different parts in an assembly.  I want the sketch to be constrained to each of these parts so that if you move the parts relative to each other the sketch will adapt.

I have tried using work planes and project geometry but when I go to move the part the geometry won't always follow the part.  I am using a spline for the 3D sketch so it should be able to adapt when the parts are moved but the problem is constraining it to something that follows the part.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can't Reuse Sketch In Adaptive Part

Mar 15, 2013

I have an adaptive part which I created within an assembly. I created work planes in this file, based on features in the assembly, and created a sketch on one of these work planes. I used this sketch for an extrusion. then I wanted to reuse the sketch again for another extrusion - normally one needs to select 'Share sketch' from the right-click menu of the sketch, but this is not available. I have already experienced this (random) behaviour, i.e. the 'Share sketch' option missing from the menu. In those case it was ok to make the sketch visible, and then I could use it again. But now it doesn't work. I made it visible, but when I click Extrusion, Inventor wants me to create a sketch, claiming there is no usable sketch.

In sketch mode, there is a function to split lines, but I don't see one to join lines.

(I'm talking about colinear lines with the ends touching - I want to convert two lines into one).

It may seem trivial, but I'd like to use these lines in frame generator to select by a single line and not by endpoints of two different lines. Less clicks and more consistency in my model.
