AutoCad 3D :: Model Imported From Inventor Too Big

Mar 4, 2013

I am currently working on a model which was first created using inventor. Its is a drawing contaning tanks and pipeworks.I have looked into the drawing and have noticed that all the parts are 3d solids. The file size is over 100mb which makes the drawing impossible to work on.

Resolving the file size issue? Maybe converting all the solids to blocks?

I will be able to have access to the original inventor file and possibly try exporting smaller parts of the site and xref only the relevent parts of the site as required for each drawing if that makes sense.

Revit :: Not Cutting Through Imported DWG 3D Model?

Mar 13, 2012

How I can successfully import a 3d .dwg model into Revit so I can cut through it in plan and section?  I built the model in sketchup, exported it as a .dwg, then impoorted this .dwg into a new Revit family.  I then loaded this family into the revit file I'm working in. Its cuts through the model on basement and ground floor plans but not on 2nd or attic.  For the 2nd or attic it just shows me the roof of my model.

3ds Max :: Imported Model From Sketchup - Zoom Feature In Viewport

Nov 14, 2013

I imported a model into 3dsMax from Sketchup.

The model is a 5200 sf interior building space that I had applied materials & components to in Sketchup.

Now that I am working on the model in 3ds Max, I am having some issues with the application of materials to the objects. Basically, some of the objects kept some of the materials that I had applied in Sketchup; however, some of the materials did not come through into Max. When I try to remedy this and apply the correct materials to the object, it is linked/grouped to several other objects in the model that I do not want to apply the material to.

I have tried to make a copy of the material in the material editor and then reapply to the object, but it still applies it to several other unrelated objects.

Also, I seem to be having trouble with my zoom feature in the viewport....my zoom will sometimes work, but sometimes it will zoom all the way to extents of the model, and won't let me zoom back into the interior of the model space; I don't know if this problem is related to the previous issue.

3ds Max :: Imported Model From Sketchup - Scale Of Texture Varies

Jun 22, 2012

I imported a model from Sketchup into 3DS Max. When I apply materials to some of the surfaces, the scale of the texture varies from face to face, these are the triangles that make up a polygon. It's as if the texture is getting stretched or compressed in one direction or another. Other polygons allow for consistent materials. It seems to be random and I can't figure out what to do.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Convert Surface Model Into Solid Model?

Jan 15, 2013

My problem today is that I made a Model of a Part of a ship using surfaces rather than solids because the engineer thought it would be easier to bring into ANSYS program for analysis but he is now having a problem with it and I am looking into converting my current model to solid. I can do it but the method I thought of using is quite long winded and we are working to a tight deadline.

1.open up the surface part

2.use "Offset/Thicken"

3.any clashes between parts make a sketch and cut away.

the problem is the amount of plates I have and the time it takes to sort them out.

Photoshop :: Repairing Old Grey Scanned Photo

Dec 11, 2012

I am using Photoshop CS8 (and also have Photoshop Elements) with Windows 7.

I am trying to repair an old image which is about 40-yrs-old (please see below). The original image that was scanned in was a lot more uniform grey, but I have managed to add a little more contrast.

However, much still needs to be done. I was going to attempt to remove the stain on the right using the clone tool, but my main concern is to replace the sky. This would add some clouds, a little contrast, and remove the scratch at the top of the photo.

However, when I try to remove this old, dull sky using Photoshop Elements's magic wand based on this tutorial

[URL].....

I find that the wand also removes the head and body of the duck due, no doubt, to the similarity of grey tones.

How to replace this dull sky with a more interesting one, but I am not sure how to do so while keeping my duck. In fact, I would like to emphasise the presence of the duck more. Should I use a mask technique (I am not very good at masks, I am afraid) to mask the duck from the changes that a new sky will bring about?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Convert Surface To Solid Model / Turn Off Yellow Edges In Surface Model

Mar 4, 2008

We received a surface model from a vendor that I have patched up as best I can, it still has one hole that I can find that I haven't been able to fill. Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.

I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported STP File For FEA

Nov 26, 2012

I have been given several drawings to perform FEA analysis.  These files are solidworks files, but my school does not have the FEA package so I had to export the files to a .stp file to import it into Inventor.

On top of that, the SolidWorks file I need to analyze is an assembly, so I 'saved as' the assembly in Solidworks as a part to have one solid part.

The file seems to import fine at first, I can create sketches onto faces.  But when I go to create an analysis, and try to set a fixed point or force load, I cannot select a face.  I tried to "cheat" and add some material to the faces I wanted to use.  When I run the analysis, it just doesn't recognize the initial material in the 'mesh'.

I CANNOT include full screenshots of the system, due to the nature of the project.  I can show small clipped shots of the software status, but not the drawing itself.  If seeing the "model" box on the left would work, I can supply that with the drawing names blacked out.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Updating Imported Part

Dec 17, 2013

A customer sent me a .step file.  In order to produce the part that I need, I wanted to add some machining to his original part. Os I derived in his part and then added the features that I needed. Just a few tapped holes in one side.

Now, my customer made a few changes to his original part (added some detail) and he has sent me his new .stp file. I did not think it would be any problems if I just overwrote the original stp file with the new one.  But, if I do that, when I open my part, Inventor complains that the updated part is part is not usable.

I tried saving the imported file as a .ipt and then bringing that into an assembly and doing the machining there. But, now when I replace the imported file with the updated version, my features fail.

Is there a workflow that will allow me to update the part that is derived into another part?

Using 2013,SP3-update3

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported Block Disappearing?

If I were to add the revision prior to importing the blocks all seems ok. I have tried removing the block and deleting the definitions from the Inventor.dwg then re-inserting once more and I still have the same issue. The only real working solution I've found so far is to start from new and reproduce the drawings.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported Surface To Workable Solid

Nov 5, 2012

I was given a STEP file that was created in Solidwoks which when opened in Inventor 12' is a surface.

The surface can be successfully thickened after it is stitched, prior to stitching it fails due to it's complex obround, tapered, bell shape. However, because thicken only thickens perpendicular to the surface I end up with a lot of unusable ends with crazy angles and in many cases additional phantom surfaces which I cannot cut off or sketch on because they don’t really exist. Thickening has not been a serviceable option to this point.

All other techniques I try when making this model from scratch fail or do not match the original surface. Measuring the surface is difficult because the only measurements we get are the lengths of the loops, no radial measurements. Additionally, when I enter the solid I created from scratch into an assembly (whether it’s geometrically correct or not), I cannot constrain it, I can’t click on anything but the working planes – no surface, face or edge can be picked on the solid itself.

Making surfaces into workable solids? Is there anything I should do different? Is the sequence I am using incorrect? Correct order of operations they use to successfully create a solid from a surface?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported Part Shows I In Browser?

Mar 22, 2012

When I bring in a .sat file, I see these little "i" in the browser.  The red Cross is dimmed.  If I hover over the icon, it doesnt tell me anything.  I can right click on Base2 and choose edit solid, and the "i" goes away, but something is still not right.  I know something is wrong, because the mass is not correct for this part.

Notice the green check by "Base 3"? After I edit "Base 2", I do not have a check by it.

How do I get this to report the mass correcly.
