AutoCAD Inventor :: Put Angular Dimension From A Hole To Slot Positioned Planes
Mar 26, 2012
I am trying to put an angular dimension from a hole to a slot positioned planes 90degrees to each other. How can I achieve this? Typically, it depends on how it is put into the ipt file but I didn't know how else to put the slot in therefore only a point was put in at that angle.

Is there a way to do this? 2 parts, 1 has a hole in it and the other has a slot. I want to constrain the center of the hole to the center of the slot. How do I do this?

is there any way I can place dimension on drawing that would be in dual units (in decimal degrees and in deg min sec)?
I did not find this possible so far.

I have a drawing of a sheet metal part that I did late last year. I used a Hole Table to dimension all the holes.
Fastforward to today. I added two holes that are different in size than any other hole. So when I opened the drawing it automatically added them to the Hole Table and gave them tag #'s in a new group and it kept the grouping in Alpha order. A, B, C were there before and it added D. Great, that's the way to do it.
Then I decided I needed to change the hole size. The change would keep the size different than any other hole on the part still. I go into the drawing and it change the size in the Table BUT, it also moved them up to the top of the list but kept the tag # as D*.
How do I get those two entries back to the bottom where they belong to keep them in order?

why after selecting Dimension, Angular, then selecting two lines, I do not get the angle between them? I am using v 2000 if it matters. I enclose a screen shot of the two lines I need the angle of.

I'm adding in inspection dimensions for a PPAP submission drawing and have found that I cannot set hole and thread dimensions as inspection dimensions. I'm quite surprised to find that this option isn't available. Is it there, just hidden, or is it really not available to me?
To the top right of this picture is the inspection dimension I want and to the left the thread dimension which I can't get into this format.

how to set my origin point to a hole center. When you create the first ordinate dimension, you have to set the origin marker. For the upper view, I want to set the origin to be the same as the view below it. I can set it to the end of one of the hidden lines from the hole, but I can't seem to set the origin to the center of the hole.

I have a block of a guide sign with directions and azimuth angles. I made arrows rotatable and angles were changing ok. But when I try to rotate an arrow into zero position, dimension shows 180. I need the dimension to show 0 degree. How can I do it?
And I can’t make angular dimension show degrees greater than 180 even if I specify vertex – after rotation angle shifts on the other side. I gave up and used back azimuth.
And I can't make an attachment: "The contents of the attachment doesn't match its file type"?

I've got a template with a set of Object defaults for an Inch drawing and a set for a Metric drawing. I've just noticed that within my metric set, if I insert a hole table with tapped holes, the font on the tapped holes doesn't match the other hole types. I'm searched around, but all the settings for the hole table style reference the same text style. (Please see the attached image.)
So is there a way to set a certain hole type to have a certain font or size within a hole table? Because if there is, I'd obviously like to remove it..... But I can't seem to figure out where the issue is.

I am trying to add a hole to an existing hole chart. I drop the part into a new drawing, set the ordinate "zero", and add a hole chart by selecting a few holes. When I attempt to edit the chart: click chart, right click "edit", click add hole, select new holes, right click to create, the "create" selection is greyed out and all I have to choose from is cancel. I searched the forum here but could not find a reference to this a know issue. Am I doing something wrong or is this a glitch of 2013.
We are running win7 x64 machines and this happens on both the 2013 Ultimate and Premium editions of the product.

I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1. I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts. Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection. I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists. I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.
I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required. As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .

Question: Is it possible to control the Hole Dimensions called out on the Hole Chart? As in controling leading/trailing zeros for main hole dim, alt home dim and tolerances? Can you combine the Main Dim with the Alt dim in a single column, separated with parentheses? (same with tolerance?)

I have an assembly that contains a part and a hole feature (the hole feature is at the assembly level). Using the api, I'm trying to get the hole location relative to the part's coordinate system in a without using the holeplacementdefinition.distance property, this way I can get the hole location regardless of the way it was defined.

I am trying to produce an iFeature that can be used as a punch/slot within a sheet metal component.
I have had minor success creating basic dimples before (simple revolved features), but this time I require a more detailed feature. I haven't been able to produce this part (see attached) as an i Feature. I believe it is because I have used a loft.
What alternatives are there? (I feel if I could get a good grasp on the limits of iFeatures that I could really make my modelling more efficient and versatile).

I have one problem and I would like to get your opinion how I could solve this.
I can't share models I have problem with, but I made another with the same problem.
I have two parts - one with slot, another with "pin". How to constrain the "pin" to always move in slot?
I had some ideas but non of them worked for me:
1. Use the Transitional constrain came first in mind, but it gives unsuspected results in this situation. Pin part is jumping around and ends up contrained in another place ir should be.
2. Contact solver kind of do the job, but it works quite bad. I gives no control or accuracy (i can not control how much pin is moved out)
3. I even thought of point on 3d sketch constrain, but it can not be done
How you would suggest to constrain the movement? I hope I stated problem clear enough.
I attached model files. I use Inventor 2013

how to put a center line on an open ended slot. Say in the front view you can see the radius of the slot with horizontal tangents running to the end of the object; this isn't the problem. When creating the top view, you only see one hidden line indicating the arch, but the other side is just open to the end. You have no means of finding bisectors.
I've added a jpg file, looking for the center line in the top view.

Is it possible to have text below the angular dimension line like you can with most other dimensions. The attached pic shows my 10 dimension with the type. Under the line and my 30 dimension with type. Under the line but the type. Under the 30 is just a text box I eye-balled in to place it is not attached to the dimension. I looked in the styles editor but could not find the setup option I need.

What is the best way to measure angular displacement on a FEA simulation?
A simple example is described here: The screen shot shows a long rigid body (left) mounted on a bracket (far right). The legs of the bracket are fixed on the right. There is a down force on the left. The goal is to measure vertical displacement on the left. All of the vertical displacement comes from flexing at the bracket, so this can be considered an angular displacement.
Is there a way to measure this vertical displacement without the long rigid body or it's mesh elements?
Or is there a way to turn off the mesh elements on the rigid body? I want to eliminate the unnecessary FEA computations to speedup the simulations.

I want to use the custom unfolding rules using Bend Compensation with an angular reference to the bending angle.
I have an Excel sheet where I have determined the bend allowance, the set back and from that, the bend compensation. When I compare these values to the values I get when using a K-factor linear unfolding method in Inventor, I get almost exactly the same results.
Tells me the formulas are working. So I implement the formulas in the custom equations. Exactly the same as in the Excel sheet. 10 degrees angle, great results! Yeah! 45 degrees, great results! More yeah! 90 Degrees, still going strong, I think I might make it!
100 degrees.... Fail! Every time an angle goes over 90 degrees, the result is crap.
I have been struggling with this all day long!! So in the end I completely erased the equations from the Inventor custom equations.I just say: Compensation is 1 mm. For all angles. This should no room for interpretation.
Again I try. I have a sheet metal part with two legs. A 100mm leg and a 50mm leg. Flat pattern should always be 151mm. Period.
Again, under 90 degrees and on 90 degrees, I get nice flat patterns. Above 90 degrees, it fails again.
Am I completely overlooking something obvious?? Or is Inventor really bugging on this?
I am working on 2012 SP 2

1. created a turbine whose blades are made from some planes that I applied thicken offset command. I applied circular pattern to multiply the blade around center point but i get too many planes and i must to make invisible each one. How can i make invisible all planes in the same time.
2. After i make them invisibile i exit from that part but when i start that part again or when i place it in an assembly all planes are visible. What should i do to make them invisible for ever.
