Nov 23, 2012Suppose we have a plastic part modeled as bent around a cylinder with an x-axis. Because the material is plastic and the manufacturing method is injection molding, part stretch is not a concern.
Suppose further that the part is a solid part that will be converted to a straight spring. The part needs to be flattened to obtain the correct spring dimensions--the part may have variable width in the x direction.
What is the best way to flatten this part?

I am having trouble finding tutorials or instructions on how to derive a shell or frame from the complex inner components of an assembly. What is the general approach I should take, I'll get to the details. So far I've tried a loft that goes through the areas that have very specific measurements.

May 22, 2013I am trying to make support ribs on a curved plastic surface to make the construction stiffer for a snow puncher.
(Just like on the attached picture, "pic 1".)
But I am having trouble doing this over the curved surface towards the top end of the rib.
As is now I sketch the shape of the rib in both ends and loft it over a sketch (see attached picture, "pic 2"), and then revolve to get the ends.
But this gives problems, result is not good and it's very time consuming.
If this was on a flat surface it would be easier, but now I get a lip along the loft and along the revolve on the top end of the rib.
I'm using Inventor Professional 2013 Student Version.

Jul 23, 2012I am using the RetainWallVertical subassembly with a created gutter subassembly attached to the wall and a DaylightGeneral subassembly attached to the gutter assembly. My cut slope parameter is set to hold at 1.5:1. I would like to use a target (feature line or alignment) to daylight to and have the wall height adjust accordingly. Problem, I am not able to use a target other than a surface for daylighting. I can use my existing ground surface, which I am daylighting too, but I can't adjust the target point.

Dec 7, 2011I'm attempting to create a wall style that has 2 components, a framed wall and a brick veneer. What I would like to do is have this wall react a certain way when I insert a window. Basically, I don't want the window to cut into the brick veneer, only the framing.
I have attached my attempt so far, and I have not figured out how to get the window to only cut the framed portion.

When converting a wall to a curtain wall I select wall in the design pallette right click apply to wall select the wall and it changes to a curtain wall. When I try converting a curtain wall to a wall I right click on curtain wall select apply properties to wall then go to select the curtain wall but I cannot select the curtain wall as a wall?
I simply want to convert an existing curtain wall to another wall type how is that done/

I have CAD drawings of EPDM Joints, Aluminum Sections and I want to simulate the action of glazing over the EPDM Joints, how the joints form is going to be transformed when the glazing is inserted in-between them i.e. a Window Sash.

Oct 23, 2013Thinwall tubing in the Frame Generator? On a daily basis we use 2x2 sq. Tubing .065 wall.
Everything in there is 3/16 and thicker. We wind up modeling everything and not using the Frame Generator at all
which would reduce design times greatly.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Get Lines To Project Onto Adjacent Wall At Same Level
May 30, 2013I'm modelling liner plates on a conveyor chute and I want the liners and the fixing bolts to align on between the walls which are different. angles.
I've modeled the liners on the first wall how I want them and now want to project lines from the top and bottom of the liner plates as well as the centers of the bolt holes on this wall to the adjacent wall.
I cant seem to get the lines to project onto the adjacent wall at the same level.
I've posted two images of the model that hopefully illustrate the problem. I would love to put a zipped folder of the model up to which is under 3MB in size but I keep getting an error message saying the size of the attachment is too large and that the maximum size is 1,572,864 bytes.

Mar 26, 2012I have a blade housing that requires a continuos radius around the profile. It is not a full radius. When I shell the blade, it looks like the raidius wants to continue. I was told I had to use two fillets and the particial radius will not work. However, the continuous radious in the customers requirement. Is there a way to shell this part correctly?

Jul 10, 2013are there any other analysis tools available to find the minimum internal wall thickness in a part? I'm aware of the cross-section tool, but that only analyzes an area the user has already noticed. In a prismatic part with several cross-holes and features (cavities), it could be easy to miss a thin spot that could give up under internal pressure just by 'eyeballing' the part with Hidden Edges turned on.
I guess I could try the 'unground and move the part thru a sectional plane' trick, but I think it would be too haphazard, especially if the weak point is not thru a principal plane.
Is there a tool I'm missing or maybe something that has been added in newer releases? Maybe this is too much analysis to ask of a modeling package.

Apr 12, 2012Any way to get a wall sweep that's set up in the type/structure properties to follow a wall if that walls profile has changed. For example, in the image below, I've split the wall and adjusted it's profile to create some cheesy angled parapet. How do i get my wall cap to follow along? I thought splitting it and changing it's height would work, but no. And if I change the profile without splitting the wall the wall cap just runs right through the wall, as if the profiel was never even changed.

Jul 25, 2013I have to draw a bulkhead wall that connects to a full height wall and a gyp bd ceiling. This causes the entire end of the full height wall to skew in line with the butt joint above the ceiling level. I tried Wall Joins but all the options screw up the bottom half of the wall which needs to remain in line with the paired opposite. I also tried editing the sketch of the wall profile but Revit couldn't keep the elements joined. I tried trimming the two walls back together afterwards but the wall profile dominates and prevents a clean join above the ceiling.
Surely there's a way to have different kinds of joins at different heights?
