AutoCAD Inventor :: Conical Spring That Can Change In Pitch As It Tapers?

May 23, 2013

I need a conical spring that can change in pitch as it tapers.  Basically the spring starts in a compression style and tapers down to an expasion style.  The CNC spring machines are capable to produce it, but am I able to, through Inventor?  If not when will we have this feature capability?

AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart Workflow And Vault - Generate All Or Generate Only New

Sep 4, 2012

We are using iPart - iAssembly workflow with Inv-2013 and  Vault Basic 2013

My question is related to released state of iparts. Currently we are generating/ releasing

all the iparts when new member is added in order to manintain the parent child version relationship

Example  : say i have a ipart 41020.ipt and i have members 41020- 001 ~ 008 . I check out the parent

from Vault and add 009 member to it.

Question :

Do I have to generate all and check those in to maintain the version relationship between the child and parent inside

Vault 2013 ?
 Or
Only generating 009 will maintain version relationship inside Vault 2013

AutoCAD Inventor :: Extrude To Conical Parts

Nov 11, 2013

I am creating a fan wheel (see attached). The fan blade needs to be extruded to the inside surface of a 2 piece cone assembly. To make it even more difficult, the inner portion of the blade needs to be cut at an angle so that the extrusion ends at the cones. See attached pdf reference sketch. The result for the flat pattern blade edge should be two parabolic curves.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Emboss On Non-Round / Conical Faces

Nov 20, 2013

I've attached the file (Inventor 2013).  The sketch shown is a raised lip I'd like to have around a future opening.  I actually want that sketch to wrap all the way around the body, but taper down to 0 in the rear as there are to be hinge plates.  This is going to be a grill/smoker and there needs to be a 3/8" raised lip at the future seam of the top and bottom.  Shown in the model is just the top portion.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Wrap To Non Flat / Cylindrical / Conical Surface

Jul 13, 2012

Is there any way / trick to wrap a 2D sketch to a non-flat/cylindrical/conical face? See attached part. I'd like wrap the lines in Sketch2 to the ring's outer face in order to get a proper path for "engraving". I see no other way to get a proper path for sweep, because project along vector won't work.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Make Profile Plane Tangential To Conical Surface

Oct 31, 2013

I have the German version of Inventor 2014, so some translations may be different.

I want to project a text on a sketch onto a conical surface. The error message is that the chosen surface wasn't tangential to the profile plane. I found no way to rotate the plane.

How do I project my profile onto the conical surface or How do I make the profile plane tangential to the conical surface?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Trim Curved Sheet Metal To Conical Surface

Nov 20, 2013

I am drawing a fan wheel. The fan blade is curved intersects the shroud, consisting of two cones. I do not know how to trim the blade to the cones. I tried to "split" the blade at the cones and then "delete face" but then the "Go to flat pattern" section on the ribbon is missing. If I suppress the "delete face" feature the "Go to flat pattern" re-appears.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Emboss Command - Only Planar / Cylindrical Or Conical Faces Supported

Oct 3, 2013

In Solidworks I can emboss a sketch into a 'wavy' surface without difficulty.

If I try to do the same thing with Inventors 'Emboss' command It fails with "Only planar, cylindrical or conical faces are supported."

Surely there must be a way to achieve the same effect as in the first illustration, in Inventor ? Am I missing something obvious?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Build Assembly With Conical Rollers Rolling On Cylindrical Support

Feb 26, 2013

I'm trying to build an assembly with conical rollers rolling on a cylindrical support.  Refer to the attached sketch.  I'd like to be able to constrain the conical faces of the roller to the cylindrical surface of the support.  It doesn't seem to be possible to do that in Inventor; or, more accurately, it's not possible to put a tangential constraint on both conical faces at the same time.  The first tangential constraint causes the part to place a generatrix line parallel to the axis of the cylinder.  (I had to look up what generatrix means, too.)  So it's not possible to make the second tangential constraint.

How I can do this?  Just in case that's not difficult enough, the reason I'm doing this is because, ultimately, the support will not be a plain cylinder but actually a tube that also curves.  It's the behaviour of the roller through various curves on the support tube that I ultimately want to model, but I have no hope of doing that if I can't even get the roller constrained onto a plain cylinder.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Make A Spring Moved

I can't make a spring moving according to other parts' behaviour. I use Inventor 12. by the way I  sent two photos (scanned by Microsoft Security Essentials-no problem), the spring in the photos was made by design accelerators-as compression spring. I want from spring to move with the other parts but it doesn't. For instance when I pull the blue part down, blue part, and the spring go the into of each other.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drain Care Spring

May 29, 2013

Inventor  offers us several options to design a coil of constant pitch with a tapering diameter.  However, I am unable to create a coil with a taper and a changing pitch at the same time.

We are using Inventor 2013. I would like to produce similar parts as the attached 2D drawings in 3D, only with a changing pitch (distance between revolutions) per revolution.  Can it be done?  There is software for the CNC spring manufacturing machines to produce such parts. Therefore the proper inputs to produce these effectively and efficiently, are available somewhere.

The part I've been describing uses .09 diameter wire and has about 54 coils in about 8 inches. The starting inside diameter is about .53" and the pitch is about .27" the ending inside diameter is .109" +/- .01 with a pitch of about .091".

Here are 2D drawings of similar parts, the last (NF3) is closest to what we need.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Spring Steel Constraining

Jul 2, 2013

I have a piece of steel that I need to flex. It is a piece of blue tempered spring steel pressed against the corner of a brass pressure transfer. The opposite end of the transfer is tangentlly constrained to a latching mechanism. When the latching mechanism is lifted, the transfer rotates slightly around a screw (made invisible) and the spring is flexed. When the latch is released, the spring returns the latch to the closed position. I have several other assemblies that use the same principal, but some with just a piece of mild steel used as a cover as well as a spring.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Coiled Spring On Arc?

Jul 19, 2012

Is there a way to create a Coiled spring of 26 coils on an arc radius of 3.781inchs arc length of spring is 13.706inc

The major dia of the spring is 3/8 inch with the wire dia is NOT given

The original Hand done drawing are attached in PDF version 6 format

As for Inventor I'm using 2012. It is the first time I have come across this sort of problem I thought of doing a single coil and creating a sub assemble of it around a construction line arc rad with each coil mated and rotated at an angle to the other but then thought that there must be  an easier way of creating this spring.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dynamic Simulation - Use Spring Joint Or Force?

Jan 28, 2013

I'm designing a hinged cover for something right now that will use a pair of gas extension springs  for assisted opening.    I'm currently working to figure out how much force it will take to open the cover using different values of spring - it's available in 50, 100, 150, 200, etc., lb versions.

I've tried running simulations using a force applied to the moving end of the gas spring, and I've trued running simulations using a spring joint applied between the fixed and and the moving end of the gas spring, and I'm getting dramatically different results between the two.  For instance, using a 200 lb force shows me that I need about 25 extra lbs of force applied to the handle of the cover to open it, where when I use that same 200 lbs on a spring joint, I need 50-75 lbs to keep the cover closed, because it will open on its own.
