I am trying to create an intersection design using the Intersection Tools in C3D 2012. I followed the steps in the tutorials, created a corridor on the major road, splitted the regions, created the intersection and added it to the major road corridor, and connect the regions with the intersection portion.
I used the same assembly throughout the design just for simplicity, however, i notice that there are gaps of curb between the curb return section and the through section (as outline in red rectangles).
When I place a centerline (or include a workplane from the ipt) is there ANY way to dimension to the intersection of this centerline and the edge of an object?
Like in this image above, I would like a horizontal dim between the vertical centerline and the intersection of the centerline and the edge of the part.I know that I can create a sketch on the view and project geometry/draw geometry... but that is such a pita.
how to do a rwdius on a hex nut as shows in attached JPEG image. I am attaching my ipt file as well without radius.

Once I hover over both lines to show the intersect and both line do intersect but it should turn green, it's not, it just keeps yellow.
It is placing the dim in the right place but it's also not drawing in the intersect lines.
It was working last month as I have a drawing to prove it.This is on a few machines.
Also moving dimension is a problem. Sometimes they will not reattach after moving one end.

I can put a regular dimension to an intersection, but when I rmb I do not have the intersection option when placing an ordinate dimension. Is there another way to go about putting an ordinate dimension to an intersection?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am practicing modelling 3D sweeps using an intersection curve, and tried to insert a swept cut on the attached model, but the ends are not circular. I assume this is because the plane which I drew the sweep profile on is not on the top face. Is there an easy way to rectify this and create the semicircular channel in the ends?

I do not know how to do that.
I have problem with placing origin of ordinate dimensions on point where two centerlines are intersecting.
In my particular case I have rectangle and centerlines are in the middle of pararel edges. So they are crossing eatch other in the center of rectangle.
I need to place origin for ordinate dimensions in this point. But till now I had not find any way to do that except make a skkech and draw a line that's one end is exactly in the point I want. But it seems to me like rather ridicules aolution.
I have been trying to bend a larger radius on a corner bend but i can not seem to be able to . I start out with a face of 46" x 82" i want to put a 1/2" bend up then a 1/2" bend out to make a z shape i'm using as a material .109 stainless steel and i want to end up with a 1/2" on the inside corners so that when i'm done i can flatten it out to get the proper sheer size for the piece the metal brake i'm using has a 1/2" die in thats why i trying to figure this out is their any way to put this kind of radius on the sheet metal bends.

Trying to add a radius in a corner and its not cooperating. Take a look at this image. Notice how the one radius curves around the part, but the other one does not? I know these two look different because they are different sizes. I would like to get the 1in radius to go straight across like the R3/4, but it will not do it. I've tried the options under the chevron, but nothing gives me what I want.

In Solid-doesn't-Works I would select an eddge to radius and then would edit it pulling one end of the line to radius back to the desired length of the radius. Here I find no option to edit the edge, I have also tried splitting the edge but I can't seem to make that feature work. Is there a way to do this short of creating a work plane at one end of the edge and then creating a cut to a set depth?

I am trying to constrain a point on a sketch to the intersection of an axis with my sketch plane... and I'm having some trouble. I can't select the axis when I select the "Project Cut Edges" and the "Project Geometry" is of no use because the axis is not normal to my sketch plane.
I'm trying to cut holes normal to my sketch plane on a curved surface using points projected from an overhead sketch.
Is there a way to preload information into Inventor in regards to the break press such as the dies being used or the ones available so the when the computer is deciding a bending radius,it know what tool we have?
Currently the bend radius is set to "radius", which i am assuming is default, but I can't figure out how to change that either, and depending on the thickness it will change, but like today it said I would need a 1/16th inch radius, but we don't have a 1/16th inch die,it is an 85 degree air bending setup, and has a 4 way die with smaller and bigger openings.
I am trying to edit my drawing template dimension style to always do a diameter (if it is a circle). Right now it defaults to radius and I manually right click and change it. I found all sorts of styles for how it displays the radius and diameter, but didn't find where to set the default.

I have tried editing the dimension style to display as a diameter and it doesn't change it. I tried creating a new dimension style and it doesn't change it.
My company is trying to Standardize all drawings produced to 1 format. the one we are attempting to create would be in the form of: nominal upper limit^lower limit. this is easily acheived in autocad and linear, chamfer, and hole/thread dimensions in inventor. but radii's and diameters from a round surface (as apposed to linear diameters) we have run into a snag with. We cannot seem to find a way to either remove the prefix symbols or be able to insert text between the symbol and tolerance.
below is a illistration of the problem and the form of the new dimensions.
We have an issue where we are trying to bend a 1mm sheet with a 24mm radius. The one side must come out 105mm wide and the flange must be 50 mm wide. inventor gives a flat pattern width of 143.4
If we bend using a brake press and a 24mm tube blade then it wont come out the right size. its like the flat pattern isn't big enough. we get the 50 mm flange but whats left over is 99 and not 105. How do we deal with something like this?
Trying to apply a variable radius to a part. The direction of the radius is wrong (pointed back in toward the part) and I cant get it to go the other way. As long as all the fillets along the curve are the same radius, the fillet will compute, but if I make them vary, then it fails.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to find the intersection point between a cylindrical curve and faces in a body. I have the start point an start vector and a rotational velocity. With this values it should be possible to create this cylindrical curve.
Is there a function in inventor which I can use?
Currently I am using the function "FindUsingRay". But I thing that there is only the possibility to fire a linear function through the body.
Today I found the command "FindUsingVector":
Sub FindUsingVector(OriginPoint As Point, Direction As UnitVector, ObjectTypes As SelectionFilterEnum(), ByRef UseCylinder As [defaultvalue(-1)] Boolean, ByRef ProximityTolerance As [optional] VARIANT, ByRef VisibleObjectsOnly As [defaultvalue(-1)] Boolean, ByRef LocationPoints As [optional] VARIANT,
I did not find any information in the "Autodesk Programming help". what is the difference between this both functions?
Is the argument "UseCylinder" for a switch into cylindrical coordinate system?
The question is if I have designed a part in sheet metal with multiple flanges and one of my edges follow a specific radius. Is is possible to use contour roll or any other means to create a flange on that edge that will allow me to flatten that out. I cant see it being physically possible putting a bend in there as the material would need to stretch and the bend tool would need to follow that radius.
