I start out with a face of 46" x 82" i want to put a 1/2" bend up then a 1/2" bend out to make a z shape i'm using as a material .109 stainless steel and i want to end up with a 1/2" on the inside corners so that when i'm done i can flatten it out to get the proper sheer size for the piece the metal brake i'm using has a 1/2" die in thats why i trying to figure this out is their any way to put this kind of radius on the sheet metal bends.

Trying to add a radius in a corner and its not cooperating. Take a look at this image. Notice how the one radius curves around the part, but the other one does not? I know these two look different because they are different sizes. I would like to get the 1in radius to go straight across like the R3/4, but it will not do it. I've tried the options under the chevron, but nothing gives me what I want.

In Solid-doesn't-Works I would select an eddge to radius and then would edit it pulling one end of the line to radius back to the desired length of the radius. Here I find no option to edit the edge, I have also tried splitting the edge but I can't seem to make that feature work. Is there a way to do this short of creating a work plane at one end of the edge and then creating a cut to a set depth?

Is there a way to preload information into Inventor in regards to the break press such as the dies being used or the ones available so the when the computer is deciding a bending radius,it know what tool we have?
Currently the bend radius is set to "radius", which i am assuming is default, but I can't figure out how to change that either, and depending on the thickness it will change, but like today it said I would need a 1/16th inch radius, but we don't have a 1/16th inch die,it is an 85 degree air bending setup, and has a 4 way die with smaller and bigger openings.
I am trying to edit my drawing template dimension style to always do a diameter (if it is a circle). Right now it defaults to radius and I manually right click and change it. I found all sorts of styles for how it displays the radius and diameter, but didn't find where to set the default.

I have tried editing the dimension style to display as a diameter and it doesn't change it. I tried creating a new dimension style and it doesn't change it.
My company is trying to Standardize all drawings produced to 1 format. the one we are attempting to create would be in the form of: nominal upper limit^lower limit. this is easily acheived in autocad and linear, chamfer, and hole/thread dimensions in inventor. but radii's and diameters from a round surface (as apposed to linear diameters) we have run into a snag with. We cannot seem to find a way to either remove the prefix symbols or be able to insert text between the symbol and tolerance.
below is a illistration of the problem and the form of the new dimensions.
We have an issue where we are trying to bend a 1mm sheet with a 24mm radius. The one side must come out 105mm wide and the flange must be 50 mm wide. inventor gives a flat pattern width of 143.4
If we bend using a brake press and a 24mm tube blade then it wont come out the right size. its like the flat pattern isn't big enough. we get the 50 mm flange but whats left over is 99 and not 105. How do we deal with something like this?
Trying to apply a variable radius to a part. The direction of the radius is wrong (pointed back in toward the part) and I cant get it to go the other way. As long as all the fillets along the curve are the same radius, the fillet will compute, but if I make them vary, then it fails.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe question is if I have designed a part in sheet metal with multiple flanges and one of my edges follow a specific radius. Is is possible to use contour roll or any other means to create a flange on that edge that will allow me to flatten that out. I cant see it being physically possible putting a bend in there as the material would need to stretch and the bend tool would need to follow that radius.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a large number of parts that are set with a "2mm" Bend Radius.
1. I wish to change it to "1.5mm" but manually takes time . Ways to automatize this?
2. What Bend Radius is recommended to be used for steel sheets (1.5 ; 2; 4; 5 mm).
The default format for a radius and diameter dimension is inserted with a prefix "R" and diameter symbol ahead of the measured dimension. Our company standard pre-Inventor was to place either "RAD" or "DIA" after the measured dimension. We can not seem to find anywhere in the setup to change how these type dimensions are inserted as a default or custom setting.
Can we change/customize the radius and diameter dimension formatting?

I need it to have, say .25" clearance and I mean I can just make the circle the right size... but Inventor/I really should be able to do something this simple...
A circle inside a circle, same center point, you can click both and get the distance between the two?
(R-click and set circle to Radius does nothing, it still wants to dimension it from the center point)
How can I bend this component with the correct radius in Sheet Metal and then Flange it (It consists of two items being put together but It's hard to see)? I used the bending function in standard before but I have to Flange now.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI wrote an app some time ago that swaps out user parameters that drive sheet metal thickness and bend radius.
it appears to work about 60% of the time when it doesn't it does not give any warning but even though the FX table shows the new user parameters driving thickness and bend radius the "sheet metal defaults dialog" thickness input box is grayed out and shows no value what so ever. Clicking the Edit Sheet metal rule to display the "Style and Standard Edtior" the Thickness and Bendradius still show the Old userparameters. See attached Pic.
I am setting the parameters as follows.
Replaced "Chan_Th" with "chn_thk" in FX Userparameters
then...
oSheetMetalCompDef.UseSheetMetalStyleMaterial = True oSheetMetalCompDef.ActiveSheetMetalStyle.Thickness = sThick
As you can see FX reports the change but sheet metal settings does not.
This code appears to work or not at random.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe angle or radius are outside the table boundaries. I have used bend tables before and have not run into this. See screenshot. What I don't understand is that in the error dialog box the Thickness is correct the Radii are correct and the Angle is correct except it is showing a -90 degrees. Is that the problem? The negetive? Why is it showing a negative number. I can't change the way the part is formed. The problem seems to be with the lower left hand curl. It does go ahead and flatten it, but I don't trust the results when I have the three errors.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm trying to draw a series of segments using script. I'm trying to build a template in Excel using my coordinates along with the radius. The segments consist of arcs and straight lines. However, the sequential order of the arcs and straight lines vary from object to object.
Is there anyway to use the ARC command and have the radius be "0"?.
I understand, in principle, this is nothing more than a straight line. However, because of the varying placement of the straight lines within the arcs, it is almost impossible for me to achieve what I'm trying to do without constantly modifying my template to meet the object needs.
Are there any options to use the arc command while applying a zero "0" radius?
I'm having a problem with the fillet command using a radius, I can't seem to get a rounded corner. I have the radius set at 1.00. I should see a rounded corner. If I set it at 0.00 or 1.00. I get the same result. Something doesn't seem right! Could it be a setting.
I viewed a few videos on Youtube and I can't replicate the same filet with radius results. I watched one that you can select radius by right clicking mouse. A text box appears to the right of the cross hair cursor where you can input the radius. On my screen that does not come up.
I am working on custom subassembly and I would need different scenarios for different radiuses along the alignment. Is there a way how to find out this current value?
