AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimension Circles With Same Radius With API
Sep 26, 2011
I have been able to dimension any circle on the drawing, but if there're several circles with the same radius ,I just don't know how to dimension the circles with the same radius with only one dimension.

I am trying to edit my drawing template dimension style to always do a diameter (if it is a circle). Right now it defaults to radius and I manually right click and change it. I found all sorts of styles for how it displays the radius and diameter, but didn't find where to set the default.

How do I change this dimension into a diameter dimension?
I have tried editing the dimension style to display as a diameter and it doesn't change it. I tried creating a new dimension style and it doesn't change it.

Octagon inside a circle... The circle cannot be dimensioned off the octagon?
I need it to have, say .25" clearance and I mean I can just make the circle the right size... but Inventor/I really should be able to do something this simple...
A circle inside a circle, same center point, you can click both and get the distance between the two?
(R-click and set circle to Radius does nothing, it still wants to dimension it from the center point)

Im drawing the image below for school but I cannot figure out how to create the radius dimensions as they shown.
The only ones I know how to do are they .25 and the .75 diameter. I have tried changing the dimension style in every way I can think of. Just to clarify the 1.31 and .63 radius demotion how the leader starts in the center and the arrow is on the inside of the circle yet the text has the extended leader and is outside the circle and the other radius demotions the text is in the middle of the leader is what I am trying to learn to do.

The standard in the industry I work in is the radius dimension goes on the inside of the arc. However, AutoCAD defaults the dimension to the outside of the arc. Is there a way to make it default to the inside? If not then this is the issue when I use the mirror command.

That arc appears and I cannot get rid of it.

When I dimension an arc to find the radius, the dimesnions appears as a line going from teh center of the arc to the edge of the arc with the dimension in the middle. I don't want this. I want a leader pointing to the R text and that's it.
I've attached a photo of both scenarios- one dimension is the style I don't want, and one is basically the style I want (I'd like it to be more of an elbowed leader line), but it only appears when I use AutoCAD's ISO25 dimension style.

I would like to change the default settings for a Radius dimension, Extension value from "On" to "Off".
I have no trouble changing the dimensions one at a time, but that doesn’t change the default value in the template.

Having used another CAD program for several years, I was used to the idea that all radius dimensions, like of a given arc, would easily start at the center of the arc, thereby denoting the position of the arc's center.
I'm slightly bugged with some CAD users, even books on the subject by autocad users, that give an arc's dimension from the outside of the arc, yet fail to show the location of the arc's center when it may not be self explanatory. Not good dimensioning practice from what little I've been schooled...
So, in AutoCAD 2007, how do I get an arc's radius dimension line to start at the center and point out to the edge. I can do all kinds of things to the position of the text, etc, but can't figure how to get it to start at the center. (The dimension line needs to start at the center.)

When you make a diameter or radius dimension it always has this static extension line shown in red when you move the dimension far enough away. I can not seem to extend this extension line at all it is always the same length no matter what variable I change. How to lengthen this extension line?

I found a strange behavior of AutoCAD. When I was modifying a drawing and adding dimension annotation, there suddenly come some small circles as highlighted in yellow in the screenshot.
cc.png
First, there is no way I can't select them.
Second, zooming doesn’t change their size.
What these small circles are? How to get rid of them?

Is there a way to override a dimension and have it shown as a GD&T Basic dimension. I can override a dimension with the text option but not with a box around the letter. It sounds strange to do this but the letter represents a dimension in a chart format that are Basic dimensions.

I have been trying to bend a larger radius on a corner bend but i can not seem to be able to . I start out with a face of 46" x 82" i want to put a 1/2" bend up then a 1/2" bend out to make a z shape i'm using as a material .109 stainless steel and i want to end up with a 1/2" on the inside corners so that when i'm done i can flatten it out to get the proper sheer size for the piece the metal brake i'm using has a 1/2" die in thats why i trying to figure this out is their any way to put this kind of radius on the sheet metal bends.

Trying to add a radius in a corner and its not cooperating. Take a look at this image. Notice how the one radius curves around the part, but the other one does not? I know these two look different because they are different sizes. I would like to get the 1in radius to go straight across like the R3/4, but it will not do it. I've tried the options under the chevron, but nothing gives me what I want.

I would like to radius the edge of a block for about 1" along a 3" edge. In Solid-doesn't-Works I would select an eddge to radius and then would edit it pulling one end of the line to radius back to the desired length of the radius. Here I find no option to edit the edge, I have also tried splitting the edge but I can't seem to make that feature work. Is there a way to do this short of creating a work plane at one end of the edge and then creating a cut to a set depth?

Is there a way to preload information into Inventor in regards to the break press such as the dies being used or the ones available so the when the computer is deciding a bending radius,it know what tool we have?
Currently the bend radius is set to "radius", which i am assuming is default, but I can't figure out how to change that either, and depending on the thickness it will change, but like today it said I would need a 1/16th inch radius, but we don't have a 1/16th inch die,it is an 85 degree air bending setup, and has a 4 way die with smaller and bigger openings.

My company is trying to Standardize all drawings produced to 1 format. the one we are attempting to create would be in the form of: nominal upper limit^lower limit. this is easily acheived in autocad and linear, chamfer, and hole/thread dimensions in inventor. but radii's and diameters from a round surface (as apposed to linear diameters) we have run into a snag with. We cannot seem to find a way to either remove the prefix symbols or be able to insert text between the symbol and tolerance.
below is a illistration of the problem and the form of the new dimensions.

We have an issue where we are trying to bend a 1mm sheet with a 24mm radius. The one side must come out 105mm wide and the flange must be 50 mm wide. inventor gives a flat pattern width of 143.4
If we bend using a brake press and a 24mm tube blade then it wont come out the right size. its like the flat pattern isn't big enough. we get the 50 mm flange but whats left over is 99 and not 105. How do we deal with something like this?

Trying to apply a variable radius to a part. The direction of the radius is wrong (pointed back in toward the part) and I cant get it to go the other way. As long as all the fillets along the curve are the same radius, the fillet will compute, but if I make them vary, then it fails.

I create an assembly, then a drawing from the assembly, i add a parts list and annotate everything, then include a title block. Everything looks fine. Then i print or PDF the drawing and odd circles appear which aren't present on the original drawing. They appear to be randomly positioned and don't line up with any other cylindrical feature, i cannot work out how to remove them.
I have told all non-essential layers not to print and in the PDF the circle is on the same layer as the drawing (Visible (ISO)).

I've been trying to make tube between these circles but I can't figure it out how to make it smooth. I tried sweep too but that didn't work too well. Here's picture of my try without sweep: [URL]
You see that it leaves corners on the back. I would like to have it so it's smooth and has same angle. How should I do it?
