AutoCAD Inventor :: Insert Number Of Occurrences In Parent Assembly

Feb 1, 2013

I have an Inventor drawing which contains multiple sheets. One of the sheets is a drawing of the master assembly. Another sheet is a drawing of a part that is in the master assembly. This part shows up multiple times. I'd like to have a text box or something in the part's drawing that I can put: "Quantity: [Quantity]" where [Quantity] is the number of occurances of the part in the master assembly. I've been searching for a while and can't find a way to do this.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using FindUsingPoint To Find Assembly Occurrences

Sep 30, 2013

I'm using FindUsingPoint to find Assembly Occurrences

Inventor.SelectionFilterEnum[] filter;filter = new Inventor.SelectionFilterEnum[1] { Inventor.SelectionFilterEnum.kAssemblyOccurrenceFilter };Inventor.AssemblyDocument activeEditAsmDoc;activeEditAsmDoc = (Inventor.AssemblyDocument)inventorapp.ActiveEditDocument;
Inventor.AssemblyComponentDefinition oAsmDef;oAsmDef = activeEditAsmDoc.ComponentDefinition;Inventor.ObjectsEnumerator istDaWas;istDaWas = oAsmDef.FindUsingPoint(oBias2, ref filter, suchRadius, false);

Works fine within a top level Assembly (ActiveDocument == ActiveEditDocument).

While in-place editing a sub assembly calling this code FindUsingPoint throws an "ArgumentException".

(oBias2 and suchRadius are tested)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Translate Assembly Component Using ILogic / Offset From Parent Assembly Origin

Nov 9, 2011

I want to be able to control the location/position of a component in an assembly. This is easy enough through the iProperties/Occurrence tab and then adjust the location of the X,Y, and Z offsets. Is this possible using iLogic? I have been unable to find a function to access via iLogic. Ultimately I am trying to translate a component about an axis not a pattern.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Run Subassembly Rule From Parent Assembly

Oct 3, 2012

Is there a way to run a rule which is part of a sub assembly from the parent assembly?

I have a parent skeleton assembly containing many icopy assemblies. These subassemblies are based of one master assembly which in turn has a common part. (hence why I am using the icopy feature)

This standard part has an ilogic rule which varries the number of creases in a wall panel. eg. when the panel is 1200 wide there are 2 creases, when the panel is under 800 wide there is one crease and when the panel is less than 600 wide then there are no creases.

When I insert the icopy assembly into the master skeleton assembly and click select the widths of the panels they stretch and change to suit my skeleton. However I am having to visit each copied panel to run the crease rule.

Is there an operation or some sort of trigger I can implement to make this rule run as soon as the sub assembly is inserted?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create IDW View Of Subassembly By Inserting Parent Assembly

Jan 7, 2014

I create an IDW view of a subassembly by inserting the parent assembly, make it a non-associative view, then turn off visibility of unwanted subassemblies.  When later working in the model and adding a part to one of the non-visable sub-assemblies, that part becomes visable in the IDW views in which the subassembly was non-visable, requiting me to edit all veiws in which the subassembly was non-visible. This can be quite a number of instances.  Is there a way to prevent this?

I may have a more fundamental workflow problem:  I create assemblies composed of subassemblies that need to be detailed sperately.  I have found that in order to correctly create a structured BOM and to have the ballon lables to correspond to the structured BOM, I create the drawing views as described above.  If I would just insert the subassembly to detail it, I don't understand how to get it to relate the balloon labels in the subassembly view to my master BOM.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Insert Part In Assembly On 1 / 2 Planes

Is there a way to insert a part that would be grounded or flush constrained on one or two planes only (automatically) and not all three?  For example; you'd insert the part and you'd pick the two planes that you want to be flush constrained but the 3rd plane you'd constrain yourself.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Column Referenced To Assembly Item Number

Nov 23, 2012

Is it possible to make the column 'REV' automatically equal to the 'Item' column in attached BOM view? I manually added the values 1 to 5 in the REV column for example.

Maybe with some ilogic rule? I don't know if it's possible and/or where to start.

When i place a mono-part-detail on a assembly drawing i want to be able to place a leader referenced to the REV value. When this is possible there is a link between assembly item number and the mono-part leader.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Insert Threads Into Hole At Assembly Level

Jan 11, 2013

I have an assembly that is made up of 3 unique parts ( 5 parts total). These parts and there features are to be laser cut, then assembled and welded along the outer perimeter in the small chamfer. I have designed the parts to have 5/16 holes, which will be later tapped to 3/8"-16 UNC after assembly.

Once these parts are assembled, I don't understand how I can change the holes to reflect this. Meaning I want the parts to be pre-drilled(laser cut) with 5/16 holes, but I want the assembly to then have 3/8-16UNC holes.

The hole command will not let me select the existing hole features in the assembly and add threads. What is the consequence of inserting a 'new' hole with 3/8-16UNC threads over the existing 5/16" holes in the assembly?

Is my workflow incorrect? should I have the parts modeled with the tapped holes and just make a note on the drawing to not tap these holes until assembly? how does that affect the laser cutting?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tracking Assembly Item Number In Individual Part

Apr 25, 2012

I don't know how useful this will be but I was trying to figure out how to track what item number in an assembly any given part may be.  I was thinking that on an individual part drawing I may want to reference the item number that is used in an assembly's Bill of Material for that part.  I can't find where this may be stored for retrieval.  If I do this I would want it to be automated so that if the BoM were renumbered the part file and drawing would update to the new item number.

This may not be possible since any part may be used in any number of different assemblies with different locations in a Bill of Material.  Most of our assemblies use "one off" parts that are only used in that assembly so it may be possible in my particular situation to do this if there is a way to get at the BoM item number and connect it to the IPT file.

You have RunRule in Component, But it does not seem to work with external rules

I referenced to occurrences and opened it using ThisApplication.Documents.Open(filepath, False)

Then i tried calling the same external rule. I thought it would run the external rule in the opened file,

but I ended up with a infinite loop on the main assembly.

Is there a way to run your rule in every occurrence with external?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Add Occurrences To Selection (in Drawing Mode)

Oct 8, 2012

I'm dreaming of a Macro to automate the following process that we use every day. We use it to highlight connectors so people can build our product easier.

We manually do the following:

In a drawing view we select a whole set of components (the connectors). Afterwards we change the color to green (using properties) & press hidden lines. This way you can clearly see where you need to place the connectors.

-> see .pdf attached with some pictures making it all clear

I'm being busy to create the code for this but I'm stuck over adding occurrences to a selection set so I can then apply the hidden line command

This is my code so far:

Sub AutoColor()'Step 1 Select a drawing view ' Get the active drawing document. Dim drawDoc As DrawingDocument Set drawDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument ' Have the user select a drawing view. Dim drawView As DrawingView Set drawView = ThisApplication.CommandManager.Pick(kDrawingViewFilter, "Select a drawing view.") Dim docDesc As DocumentDescriptor Set docDesc = drawView.ReferencedDocumentDescriptor ' Verify that the selected drawing view is of an assembly.

[code]....

Step 1 works

Step 3 works

Step 4 & 5 are for a later moment

Step 2 calls the sub "SelectOCC". this sub cycles true the occurrences, I can filter them on file location so I only get the components needed (the connectors). In theory it should be possible to add the given occurrences to the selection set so I can run Step 3 afterwards on it.

But I don't succeed in doing this, I've tried countless of methods but without success.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Huge Delay After Iterating Through Component Occurrences

Jul 27, 2012

My application, writing in C#, exports all vertex-data of parts in an assembly to external files. It uses the surfacebody.getExistingFacets method to do this and shows a progressbar to visualise progress.

The application works fine, only when it is finished, when I zoom in or zoom out in inventor, a huge delay exists before the actual zoom is done. And everytime I scroll the mouse wheel or touch my 3D mouse the delay is there. It's really up to several seconds everytime.

However when I close the assembly and re-open it again immediately after my app finished, these delays are not there anymore.Do I have recalculate something, or do I have to invoke a 'free-something' command ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: IParts Losing Constraints After Update To Parent

Aug 19, 2011

I stumbled upon a problem with iparts losing their constraints back in January, 2010.  The issue is that if the parent ipart is changedor update and the children are "regenerated", the assembly constraints will fail.  This defect crept in with R2010 and has basically crippled my fasteners library.    I cant add to or make any corrections to my ipart parent file. This defect is being tracked by Autodesk with numbers 1260490 and 1300828.

AD did release a hotfix for 2011, but this doesnt work with ipart files that already have the children created (DL15973874).

The only way to fix the issue is to re-generate the children to the current release and then fix the assembly constraints.  Only trouble with that is these are fasteners we are talking about.  This would take months to do and is not practical.

Guess what I am wanting is to know how others are handling this.  I could leave all the iparts alone, then rebuild them under totally new names for 2012.  Thats a lot of work and I really dont like the idea of having two libraries to maintain.
