AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Notch A Frame Against Solid Part
Oct 15, 2012I would like to know how to notch (or similar) a frame made in Frame Generator to a solid part?
I have that problem when I'll connect a truss frame to a specific part.

There should be a way to Notch a straight frame to a curved frame! I want to laser cut the tube, so I really need to trim one tube to a curve tube.

When i get some frames and need to use the feature NOTCH, is there a way to put one offset on it ? like we can do using MITER ?
The solution we've found here is in every member that we use NOTCH, we enter in the frame part and then use the feature THICKEN/OFFSET, this wey i can get the standard offset of 3mm that we use here for welding.
Or, if there is other easy way instead of NOTCH, to make one frame get to other with offset.
The image below shows what i mean, i need to get this off set in the frames on Z AXIS.

I created a custom profile, IS34, and published it successfully as a structural shape for the frame gererator. My problem is I get an error when I try to use the notch command in frame generator between two of these frame members. I have tried creating a custom notch in the profile definition, but this did not work either. I expected one profile to counter-profile the other.

I am using Inventor 2013.
tried to author notch profiles in the structural members for 2011?
The what's new states:
>Publish Notch Profiles
>The Notch command is enhanced so that you can define and reuse frame cross-sections. This is particularly >useful when you need a minimal gap between two connected frames.
>You can sketch a notch profile, extrude it, convert it to an iPart, and author and publish the iPart to Content >Center. Then you can apply the notch to cut another frame during the Notch process.
Is there a way to create an insert notch in a sheet metal part?

I have updated the content centre etc and installed all the latest updates. I have also reinstalled Inventor and The local content centre but the error persists.
Ive included a couple of screen shots that show the error.
frame generator is useless until this is fixed and i need to design some frames.

I am using inventor 2013. I currently have a IGES file that doesn't show the surfaces on my inventor drawings. The include all surfaces feature is check but still doesnt show all the surfaces. I just recently imported a IGES file as a soild part but i do not rememeber how i did it. Once I clicked on the IGES file to open and then click options. What do I fill out on the option dialog box that the IGES file imports as a solid part and shows all surfaces on my inventor drawings.

I've made all sketches and workplanes etc not visible.
When i edit a sketch down the tree, obviously the sketch becomes visible but the problem I have is some other sketches and workplanes also become visible.
I have a solid body but I need to make a part of it removable. I want to be able to lift it off and put it back on. The problem is that at the moment it is all one piece. So what I need to know how to do is remove just this one face from my solid, turn it into a seperate part so that I can create a lip on the solid for it to set on once it is reasymboled.
View 4 Replies View RelatedTwo IGES parts and try to convert them to a solid. I've tried all I can think of with no good result.
I can't get them uploaded, file is too large, what can I do?
I'm slowly getting there with iLogic, so I'm really just looking for the function / call to change one part from Frame Generator, to another part from Frame Generator.

I have several frames built by Frame Generator in project.
Than one frame has been diminished much while design so I use just several frame links just like parts without skeleton.
Those frame links I have renamed since I have several copies and I would like to have unique name. Now when I start the assembly consisting those links Inventor naturally inquires about missing files.
I show to renamed one and everything works ok except when I start the file again it asks again nevertheless file has been saved. Inventor still remember this frame link names as it used to be in browser and does not accept replacement.
[URL]........
I wish I must not rebuild those parts from scratch again. Therefore I have two questions
Is it possible to save this frame part as normal part (save as does not do it) ?
Is there some other way to get rid of Frame Generator status of some part built by Frame Gen?
In the part file I created a table with the 2 different sizes used. I can manipulate the part by editing extrusion 1 and the ribs and slots adjust accordingly. However, I would like to keep track of the wire trough used in a similar fashion as a tube weldment, one part, but multiple lengths used, for BOM tracking.
AS soon as I author the part to structural shapes I get issues with the extrusions and sketches, looks like the initial geometry is lost it's constraints to projected lines. (sketches are full of the pink lines).
If you want to re-use a Frame Generator member in ANOTHER assembly to save creating more files you might want to use copy-paste.If you do then you find you can't delete this member or other ones that have been copy-pasted into that assembly.
Oddly enough if you use "place component" you CAN delete it.I am using Inventor Professional 2014 Service Pack 1 Update 1.

I would like to make the part named "Frame_base" an assembly on its own. see the attachment. I am new to Inventor and I thought I could demote it but the selection is grayed out. The main reason I want to do this is because I would like to create a 2D drawing of it with a parts list to give to the welder. This will be my first drawing and maybe I'm doing this wrong. It appears that I need to bring in the base view file, and I don't see a way to do that unless the frame is its own assembly.
I'm using ilogic rules to customize an assembly generated by content center of frame generator. I would like replace the parts on my assembly when I change an assembly parameter multivalue.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to duplicate a solid body 4 times in a part file. i did that by going for circular pattern. But after creating that, i had to add on few more features. I did that in parent solid body. then I noticed that other 3 solid body is not getting updated. I know in assembly file it gets updated but any way in part file.

“Associative body copy API Sample” 2013 API help.
The above code in the API help shows how to do an associative or a non-associative copy in an assembly of one part into another part. ..BUT the non-associative copy does not always work correctly....
I have been testing this sample code and notice the following limitations with the lower part entitled “Create a non-associative solid base feature in the second part”...
The code uses the proxy body for the source object but it does not use the proxybody for the target object and therefore the relative positioning is wrong for the nonparametricbasefeature when it is created in the target object if the real target body is in a different place than the targetbodyproxy (e.g. it has been rotated/moved in assembly space).
I notice that if you perform this manually using the “copy object” button the relative positioning is maintained correctly even if both target and source objects have been rotated/moved in the assembly...
I've used Frame Generator to build a frame. Then in my idw , I've created a "part list" of the frame and added "Mass" to the Columns , some member shows the mass , but others show *Varies*, I note that when I leave out the "End Treatments" I don't have the *varies*,
View 6 Replies View RelatedI created a template part, turned it into an I-part and published it successfully as a Frame Member.
The custom member was published into a custom library that is read/write. I was forced to create this library in order to publish the part.
When I go to use the custom profile with the frame generator, I am able to find the custom member in the dialog but when the frame generator tries to generate the part, I get this error message:
[WARNING] Frame Generator: Errors occurred during inserting Frame Member(s)

I am trying to access the material and/or renderstyle for each solid in a multibody part document, but it seems like this is not supported in the API.Is this correct?
If this is correct, why the HasMultipleSolidBodies property?
I have a wire trough that we typically use on all our units. Instead of modelling each trough as it's own separate part to length, I would like to add this part to frame generator for tracking there cut lengths etc...
A few items, there is two sizes that we use, but for now I will work with just one.
I have modeled the part and renamed the important parameters.
-WIDTH - stays the same
-HEIGHT - stays the same
-LENGTH - adjusted by frame generator
-RIBS - the part has 6 currently, but there is a rib added for every 1/2 inch. it is a rectangular pattern
-SLOTS - will be added to the trough every 2 inches of length, it is a rectangular pattern
-SLOT_DISTANCE - is 2 inches and never changes, if the trough is cut on a slot, which ever is easiest, to show half a slot or none, doesn't matter, this is just for a visual and BOM reference
I found a video that shows me how to publish parts to FG, but I am stuck for the iLogic part. Part attached.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf we require to create patterned holes thru a number of solids, this works great only requiring the one hole feature.
However, once an assembly is created with the parts, (these parts obviously have their own derived individual solids in them) when needing to place a bolted generated assembly to the patterned holes. It won't recognise the pattern.
So I've come to the conclusion that the bolted generator/drop place function really needs improvement for solid body modelling technique. (Mind you, the BG needs a complete rethink because its at about 50% complete).
What I can see needs to be added, is the functionality of the parts recognising the hole pattern. e.g. when using the make components function it gives an option to add a link to the hole feature.
My only other option at present is to create the holes within the assembly file and transfer the hole feature to each part file. This obviously loses the parametric functionality.
