AutoCAD Inventor :: DIM Lines In IDW Look Different When Saved To DWG

Feb 8, 2012

My Dim lines look how I want in idw, but when I save to dwg they look different.

(the dim line is breaking at text)

I actually prefer the break, but our drawing checker is not accepting my drawings with the dim lines as shown on right of attached.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Last Saved By And Last Saved Date Drawing Template Properties

Jul 15, 2013

I'm trying to customise my drawing templates to keep them up to date and also include accountability.I seem to be having trouble in including the name of the person who has last saved the model, and the date the model was last saved.

Manually including this information isn't ideal as people will forget, and it makes it harder to trace revisions.I can't see anywhere on the iProperties where the 'Last saved by' feature is available, but I thought maybe the information could be pulled from the username from the application options?

The last saved date should be easy, as there is a modified date in the model's iproperties; however, I cannot pull this information.I have used other cad packages in the past and this was never an issue. With all the customisation of Inventor, I thought this would be relatively straight  forward.

Lightroom :: Showing Crop Lines On A Printed Or Saved Image?

Aug 17, 2012

Is it possible to either print or save an image that shows the crop lines from Lightroom (i.e. shows what is both in AND out of the image as it is cropped).  I'm working off a scanned negative and I want to show my printer just how to crop the image.  She was hoping to see both what's inside and outside the crop?  Possible to get that to her either by printing that from my computer or emailing it to her?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Make 2 To Sketch Lines Instead Of Floating Lines?

Jan 28, 2013

Is there any way to make 2 to sketch lines instead of floating lines so that I can dimension them?

For example, if I have a part that can change lengths and I need to print off a new drawing, it would be good if I could say that the lines were a set distance from each end of the part or some features of the part.

Then I could update the part length, then just open the part drawing and not have to adjust anything.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Edit Dim Lines And Center Lines

Sep 2, 2010

I am new to Inventor after using Unigraphics for a while and finding the modelling side very similar so no problems there. the problems are starting when i am producing drawings.

I am trying to manually break a dimension extension line around an inserted symbol ( surface finish symbol) and can't figure this out. I have noticed that Inventor automatically break dimensions round other dimensions but is there a way to add a manual break?

Also is there a way to break a center-line round dimension text? i have added a picture with the problem.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Later Version Of This File Has Been Saved / Message

Nov 7, 2011

One of our users, lets call him USER1, has recently received the following message when attempting to save an assembly:

"A later version of this file has been saved by USER1.  Saving the file would overwrite changes which is not allowed.  If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command."

To get to this error message, our user opens an IDW, then the IAM linked to that drawing. Changes made in the IAM are changing bolt lengths, adding fasteners from content center, things like that.  After saving inside the IAM this message appears.   There are multiple users on our network; but only this user is working the assembly in question when the message appears?

what makes this message appear, and how it can be avoided?

AutoCAD Inventor :: File Being Saved In Library Folder

I managed to change a setting to where my files are being saved in a library folder and I can't edit them. I don't wish to continue with this nonsense. I want to be able to edit the files. I am not using a vault but still get a message that the file I am trying to open is not signed out to me. How did I manage to mess my settings up this badly. I don't remember changing any of my settings.

AutoCAD Inventor :: CC Parts Saved As Custom Not Updating Thumbnails?

Mar 26, 2013

When inserting a Content Center part into an assembly as a custom part instead of as a standard one, then opening and modifying the part, the thumbnail for the new file is not updating to show the modifications.  In this particular instance: a pipe blind flange with an off-center hole drilled through the face.  The thumbnail still shows as the original (and fairly pixelated) CC blind flange. forcing the thumbnail to update?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Revert Part To Last Saved / Close And Discard Changes

Dec 17, 2013

Is there a way to revert an open, edited part back to its most current save? Or to close an edited part without its changes persisting in assemblies that reference it?

I often work on parts with their associated assemblies open; Inventor won't let me discard changes until all related assemblies are closed. Searching brought me to a thread describing the same issue from 2006. I'm using Inventor 2010.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Vault VBA Login And Export Saved Search

1) Log in to vault client.
2) Find a saved search called "Bobs Drawings".
3) Export saved search to csv or excel.

I would like to have a short VBA script which we could set up on the computer to run automatically and do this every night. Seems like a simple few lines of code but I've only ever made VBA scripts inside Inventor and never stand alone .exe files.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unconsumed Sketches Saved On Flat Pattern?

Mar 2, 2012

Our CNC Plasma table uses .dxf files for the profile.   To make the .dxf I will make a flat pattern in the model, do a "Save Copy As" and save it as a .dxf.

My new favorite trick is to mark locating lines on the flat pattern, so that the CNC Plasma table will make mark lines where non criticial components are to be located.  I do this by making unconsumed sketches on the model itself, then transfering them over to the flat pattern before doing a "Save Copy As".  I have it setup that when I do a Save Copy As of the flat pattern, that Unconsumed Sketches are to go to a layer named "Mark" which the plasma operator knows is to make etch marks on the part, as opposed to the Cut layer, which of course cuts.

The only trouble is, is that I often use construction lines in making my Sketches for the mark lines.  Of course I'm thinking construction lines are just that, for construction of the lines you actually want, they won't be saved in the .dxf when I do a Save Copy As of the flat pattern.  But for some reason the construction lines make their way into my dxf as well, which seems like an oversight to me.  Now I have to go into every dxf I make and delete all the construction lines.

Is there a setting I am missing to ignore construction lines when doing a Save Copy As of the Flat Pattern and you are exporting Unconsumed Sketches as well?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Pre-made Saved Text Blocks To Insert Into Drawings?

Feb 2, 2012

Basically we have a number of different procedures that need to be written in each drawing.  Each drawing uses one of 5 or so procedures.  Usually we type it out every time which is a pain or copy paste. We also tried making word documents and inserting them that way but it got a little buggy.  Is there any way to have 5 or so pre made text blocks to pick which to insert onto different types of drawings but that can be global used across a few systems?

We have a small group of workers all on the vault server.  Basically I just want to be able to have a finished drawing. Click something that will open a list of my pre made text blocks, and insert one into the drawing that I can scale etc. We use Inventor 2011.

GIMP :: How To Restore Layers Or Previously Saved Version Of Saved XCF Image

May 2, 2012

I have a capstone lab project due tomorrow for my graphic arts class and I made a HUGE mistake!!! I created an image using 20 something layers and did SAVE AS as a .xcf image (with all layers open). Part of the project was to save in different formats: .xcf (with open layers), a .png, and a .jpeg (optimized). So, I did the first save and then flattened the image to SAVE AS a .png with a different file name.

Long story short, I was tired and had way too many images open at once. When I was closing all of the images I accidentally saved the changes (flatten image) to my original .xcf (with open layers)!!!! Now, my .xcf that is supposed to have open layers only has one layer...the finished project!! I tried going to the file properties to restore a previous version, but it says that no previous versions were found! I also downloaded a norton "unerase" utility, but maybe I am not scanning properly to locate the file!?!

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom Iproperty Reverts Back To Original Value After File Is Saved

Apr 11, 2012

In the attached file there are two custom iProperties that cannot be perminantly updated nor deleted. The iProperties are "size" and "purch_qty". These iProperties were created and set using a custom macro but they are of course accessable via the standard iProperties dialog. I can change the values for these particular iProperties but as soon as I save the file they revert back to their original values. Same goes for trying to delete them. All other iProperties, custom and otherwise, seem to behave normally.

The sketch in this file originated with a 2D DXF file for a vendor supplied aluminum extrusion quite a few years back. The original file has been copied (save-as...) to about 20 different files over the years. The iProperties in question were added years after most of the files were created, Each file is exibiting the same problem. These files are used in a LOT of assemblies. The thought of recreating all these files from scratch and updating the assemblies is not very inviting.

No other IPT files seem to be having this issue.

Lightroom :: 4.3 - How To Make Metadata Saved To XMP File Stay Saved

Mar 12, 2013

When a raw file badge shows that the file has been changed, I use Metadata Save to File & for the large majority of my images, the badge goes away and Metadata Status Changed does not show the file.  For some of my files, however, the Save to File command doesn't work properly.  If I am only displaying files with changes, the file briefly disappears, then returns.  Even if I go to Windows Explorer and delete the xmp file, then again Save metadata to file, it pops up again with the badge saying it needs to be saved.  I'm using Lightroom 4.3 64 bit on Windows 7.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Part Lines In IDW

Aug 7, 2012

I had a sketch in one of my views of a planned piece of equipment.  I hatched the equipment to show where it would be placed on my shaded views.  The part outlines behind the sketch were visible through the hatch.  I turned the visibility off of the part lines once I was finished with the sketch, everything is OK.

Now that the proposed piece of equipment is no longer going to be used, I removed the sketch from the view, but my part lines are missing, making the view look a little odd. See below.  One side of my filter (gold part) has the outlines visible, the other side shows up without the lines.

After removing visible lines, is there a way to turn them back on again??

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can Add Hidden Lines Behind Only Certain Objects In IDW?

What I'm looking to do is show the hidden lines blocked by a part in a plan view but not all of the hidden lines.  Ie. I have a top view showing a clearance.  If I turn on that clearance a portion of the original part is not viewed.  When I turn on hidden lines I now see every hidden detail of that part (I didn't turn on hidden lines for the entire drawing).  I then have to eliminate all the lines I don't want which is both tedious and cumbersome.  Is there a way to turn on just the lines hidden by a particular object but not all the hidden lines of the part.
