AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart Suppressed Sweep 3D Sketch Failure

Aug 10, 2012

I have an Ipart I created and in some of the parts there is a swept feature. In other configurations it is suppressed.

The issue is that the 3D sketch for the sweep gets broken going to/from the configuration. The path is generated from an extruded cut that is also supressed.

I tried to recreate the sweep using a different sketch, but that wasn't successfull.

Is this a bug or is there a different aproach I can use?

AutoCAD Inventor :: BOM Structure Of IPart Or IAssembly?

Nov 20, 2012

I am using Inventor Professional 2012 and I have created complex iparts and iassemblies and I am not able to change the BOM structure of the parts simply because they are intelligent.  I require the tables and features that the iparts and iassemblies can create but they are coming up read only and can not modify the BOM information. Is there a way to change the read only aspect of an ipart or iassembly?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating New IPart From IAssembly

Jun 11, 2013

What I am looking for is a command similar to table replace, but that will allow for a new part to be created based on a user input. This will need to be done at the i Assembly level to an i Part that is placed within the assembly.

The end goal is to have input boxes come up, ask the user for the values then create all of the associated parts.

I don't need anything with the input boxes, just the part creation.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2012 Modify IPart From IAssembly

May 22, 2013

I am looking for a way to change the parameters of a part that is within an iAssembly. Basically we have tubing with flanges on the end and wish to have an easy way to model varying lengths. I essentially need to be able to have the upper level iAssembly control the flange spacing and cut the tube to length based on the users selection. Due to BOM setup these parts must be seperate .ipt in a larger .iam

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 IPart / IAssembly In Drawing Causes Crash

May 15, 2013

I'm having an issue with Inventor crashing every time I attempt to follow this exact procedure:

1.  I have a drawing open with an iAssembly or iPart in it.

2.  I edit a view by double-clicking the view, opening the 'Drawing View' dialog box.

3.  I open the 'Model State' tab.

4.  In the 'iAssembly/iPart Member' menu box, I select a different member.

Now, it may or may not open the 'Save' dialog box.  If it does, then I click 'OK' and poof, Inventor crashes without fail, asking to send in a crash report.

The same thing happens if I start a brand new drawing and attempt to follow the same procedure while inserting a Base view.

Now, I know for a fact that the not all of the drivers are not up to date on my computer, I am not using a recommended graphics card, and I am using SP1.1, not SP2.  I have notified my IT guy about this, but he has yet to get back to me.  I don't now if/when everything on my computer will be updated.  I do not have admin rights to my computer.

In the mean time, Inventor has become essentially useless for me until this issue has been resolved.  how I can get these drawings to start working?

AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart Parameters In IAssembly General Table?

Dec 20, 2012

How can I display iPart parameters in an iAssembly general table?

On my .dwg I would like to use one detail with a table.  The 2 table columns I need are:

(1)   iAssembly name (no problems here, shows up in the general table by default)

(2)   Length (this parameter value is in the iPart)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Edit IPart / IAssembly Via Spreadsheet Window Offscreen

Dec 29, 2011

Recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP and changed from a laptop to a desktop.  With the laptop I used dual monitors; to date I haven't secured a second monitor from IT for true dual monitors.

Well I have some iParts that I've edited using excel and they have formulas that I can't edit using the standard iPart dialog, but when I click "Edit via Spreadsheet" the window opens off screen.  The alt+Spacebar method doesn't work in Windows 7 and the Windows 7 method of shift+right-click isn't an option because Excel doesn't appear on the taskbar and selcting Inventor moves the Inventor window, not the instance of excel inside of inventor.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mark IAssembly Or IPart Dirty So That Members Regenerate?

Jul 7, 2013

Inventor does not think an update is required for iAssembly members after changes to attributes on a client feature are saved. In our workflow we avoid rebuild all because it causes subassemblies to change, so we force an update by changing a parameter. Through the API is there a good way to indicate that our change was significant enough for members to need updating?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drive IPart LENGTH Param By IAssembly Table Custom Parameter Column?

Feb 21, 2012

In a simple case I have an extrusion with some attached seals/weather stripping, all implemented as iParts having their own LENGTH parameters.

RailPart.ipt, Seal_A.ipt, Seal_B.ipt

The goal is to encapsulate these IParts within an iAssembly: RailAssy.iam, where a LENGTH parameter can be input when the iAssembly is placed, causing RailPart and Seal_A to have their length parameters set to the LENGTH provided at that time and SEAL_B having Length set by an iLogic rule to LENGTH - 5.

I've been unable to set up a Custom Parameter Column in an iAssembly table.  Is this even permitted?

The problem is that once it is published, the ORB end changes for any size 1/2" (8) or under.

It just turns into a Hex head, I don't understand what the problem is.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Parameters To Control Pattern Features?

Jul 22, 2013

I have entered in all the available sizes and have the outer frame of the louver adjusting nicely. Now where I am running into trouble is setting up the louvers and the louver spacing. I have been playing around with the parameters for awhile now and I just can't wrap my head around some things.

Example one:

in the picture below,

HEIGHT is selected on 18 in

I have created an user parameter called LOUVER_QTY which is set to subtract 1.6 in off HEIGHT = 16.4, then I divide that by 2.05 and the result is supposed to equal 8 but it is showing 3.149606. But when I assign LOUVER = LOUVER_QTY it is showing 8

For the most part this file works fine, but when the Height is changed to 56 in, the last bottom louver runs through the bottom of the frame.

I know that I have to change the spacing from a direct input (2.05) to a equation based on height to fix the spacing, but I can't grasp how these parameters are working, why are they red(errors)

Also I don't know how to set up the parameters to set the correct number of occurrences in the rectangular pattern to control the amount of louvers. Something related to to the spacing of the pattern and the selected height.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rule To Control Visibility Of Work Features In Pro 2014

Oct 2, 2013

Is there a way to write a set of rules so that I can switch Work Features On and Off via a Text Parameter.I have an assembly made up of a number of parts used hundreds of times within in various sub-assemblies. If I make a particular sub-assembly 'Invisible' then subsequently 'Visible,' all work features that had previously been set to be 'Invisible' are switched to 'Visible' also.

Likewise if I simple want to set a particular Work Features' Visibility in one particular sub-assembly, I would like to be able to do this via a Text Parameter rather than having to laboriously scroll down the Assembly switching the visibility of features on and off.

At the moment if I turn the visibility of say a Work Plane On in a sub-assembly then all sub-assemblies deploying the same part switch the visibility of that Work Plane on too. Hence I cannot see my work for Work Planes.Obviously the Global Switch under View is of no avail,

So I would like to be able to create a Text Parameter for each sub assembly and in turn each Work Feature with a Yes/No Visibility switch controlled via a set of Rules in iLogic.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Skip Saving A Suppressed Component / Delete Suppressed Component

Aug 30, 2012

I have an assembly which has a few components suppressed.

My end results is another copy of the assembly (with copies of the all the parts) in another directory

Now i am able to create copies of un-suppressed parts using; (this allows me to SaveAs assembly components which are not suppressed)

DocumentsEnumerator = ThisDoc.Document.AllReferencedDocuments

And save a copy of the assembly using

ThisDoc.Document.SaveAs

I also added the fllowing snippet (which I am not sure what is does), but it does not work for me

Component.SkipDocumentSave = true

When I open the newly created assembly, I still see the suppressed components in the model browser

I want to either;

Skip saving the of the components in the model browser (i.e. the Assembly)

OR

Delete the suppressed parts in the Assembly, so that they do not save altogether

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimensioning Suppressed Parts

Feb 28, 2012

I have created some "programs" to automate drawing creation of some of our most common products. The problem I hav eis with my assembly drawing. When parts are suppressed and unsuppressed, they don't seem to behave the same way that features do. When you dimension a part feature in an idw and suppress that feature, if a week later you unsuppress that feature the dimenensions come back.  Parts don't seem to follow this behaviour. If you dimension a part, suppress it, open and save the drawing, then later unsuppress it and open the drawing back up the dimesnions do not come back. Is there anyway for me to get these dimensions to "stick"?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Constraint Errors From Suppressed Parts When Using LOD

Jun 28, 2013

I am trying to model a large Control panel assembly using Inventor Pro 2011. It comprises of a main assembly with several adaptive sub assemblies containing the various items. (Relays assy, label assy, fixing assy etc). All works ok until I start using Levels of Detail to enable me break the assembly into smaller workable parts. I.e. Left door, right door, main panel full, main panel no doors etc. These will be used to create view reps from for my drawing views at a later date.

The problem I am having is I keep getting constraints failing on parts which are suppressed in various levels of detail. An example of this Is when I go to right door LOD and do a rebuild all, I get constraint errors from item relating to the main panel which is suppressed. I can suppress the constraint causing the error but when I return to the full panel LOD the constraint is still suppressed and the parts appear In the wrong place.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IParts - Delete Feature If Suppressed In Every Row

May 7, 2013

I started with a huge ipart table which was created by a collegue who has now left.  The factory was unmanageable as it had reached the maximum amount of columns and was running very slowly.

To combat this, I decided to split the table in half so that the ipart will become two iparts.  I am now working on the first half...

A lot of features are unque to one or a few parts, so doing this enabled me to delete columns if all values in the columns matched after the table was halved.

I thought this would speed up the file but I have now realised I have a bunch of features sat in the browser than are suppressed in every member!

Is there any way to use ilogic or vba to run a script that will delete a feature if it is suppressed in every member?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Disable Parameters When Part Is Suppressed

Feb 18, 2013

I have a configurator assembly, which is controlled with an iLogic rule.

one of the parts is being changed in a lot of ways according to the different configurations. But in one of the Configurations the part must be suppressed, which works fine, however next time i run the rule i get an error message from all the other instances where it would change a parameter if the part was active.

I have tried adding if [the configuration that makes the part suppressed] = False then, in the beginning of the the code that fails, to simply prevent it from running, but it still makes an error.

and as you can see i have a lot of lines where the part normally would be configurated.

Error on Line 628 : Method arguments must be enclosed in parentheses.
Error on Line 629 : Method arguments must be enclosed in parentheses.
Error on Line 633 : Method arguments must be enclosed in parentheses.
Error on Line 634 : Method arguments must be enclosed in parentheses.

I don't understand how to enclose the argument in parentheses.
