View 6 RepliesI took an existing assembly from one specidifc directory and copied it to another location. Then one part by one I use the replace command to swap out the parts to map to the new location because when I went to iproperties it was still pathing to the old location. I change the new parts physical features (i.e. length, diameter).
I get done with it and all references are pointing to the new location.
I exit out of inventor and call up the new assembly and it has mate errors because the parts are all of the old ones from the original location. Why is it not remembering or retaining the new parts and there locations?
Even when I have gotten this screen I have selected "No" to the bottom (2nd) selection which is the original location I do not want.
I would like to save my inventor Part and Assembly model file in a lower version. Like in our company we use both Inventor 2012 and 2010. Once the file is created in 2012 and when shared to 2010 users they are unable to open, is there any possiblities to open 2012 files 2010 like how we do in Autocad.

What is the risk Migrating Inventor 2009 files to Inventor 2012?
Do i have to migrate the Inventor 2009 files to 2010 and up to 2012?
Using Inventor 2009. For some reason (all of a sudden) it will not open a step file. When I go to search for the file I would always use the file drop down an there would be a lengthy list of options. For some reason now it will only list the basic native formats... part, assembly etc. How I can get these back?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly that needs to added to a project. How the whole project system needs to be laid out even though I've used Inventor for several years. Guess it's time to get some formal training.
If I save it to a library that is in the project I can't make changes so how do I take an existing assembly that needs to be worked on and add it to the project.
I have made a macro that asks for a location on the file server (=client name) and then the project name. It then automatic creates the correct folders, opens my custom assembly template and changes an ipart that is by default in it.
That's all great and can save us a ton of time, but the last step is to automatic save the assembly! I just can't get it working and can't find the correct code.
I have defined the target folder earlier and the file name of the assembly is identical to this folder. For example
target folder = O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1
file name = ClientProject1.iam
-> result: O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1ClientProject1.iam
the code that I think should work looks like this:
Sub SaveAssembly() Dim oAssDoc As AssemblyDocument Set oAssDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument oAssDoc.SaveAs ("O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1ClientProject1.iam", False)End Sub
But it doesn't work, I always get the error message
"Compile error: Expected: ="
Whatever I do next I don't get the code to work
I have a problem when it comes to saving the flexible hoses I have made in the tube and pipe module of 2012 pro.
after making the hoses on my particular assembly, and trying to save the whole assembly, none of the hoses will save, please see attached image, I have found that on another model it would save the hoses, . the error message is in the screenshot.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I save a drawing, it goes to a temp file. I have to do a 'save as' to bring the dwg back to the original folder. Our in-office guru thought it had something to do with the new AutoCAD 360, but I have never even signed in to that, and when we did open it, nothing was in it.

Thumbnail is generating fine for drawing file.
Once drawing file is saved using below statement,
Database.SaveAs(filePath,DwgVersion.Current);
Thumbnail generation method is returning null as given below.

if (bytCnt <= 1) //Means bytCnt value is 1;
return null;
We use LT 2012, and recently we started having issues with file size.
Some of our drawings went from 1.5MB to 12MB after saving.
We tried saving as DXF then PURGE, -PURGE to reduce the size but always comes back.
Now, in one of the drawings I did PURGE, AUDIT, -PURGE and erased everything in the drawing, file is still 1.8MB.
Sometimes, not in every drawing, but in certain drawings when we draw a spline it creates a jog or tail.
So when we do the command spline and click the start point then move to do the next point it will have this jog or tail at the beginning of the spline. sometimes we get it at the beginning and sometimes at the end.
How do I make it stop? is there a setting that I need to change? We typically work on drawings from Architect / Engineers.
I have a drawing of an assembly with approx. 15 parts. I dimensioned and notated everything on the drawing as I usually would, and everything seemed fine. I have now gone back to that assembly a while later to adjust the position of some of the parts. When I open the drawing, however, these changes do not show up in the drawing environment. All of the parts are still in their original positions, even though in the assembly they are in new locations.
I've checked and it seems that the drawing views are referencing the correct assembly model. I tried deleting and replacing the dimensions, but that does not change dimension value to be correct. I also checked to make sure the "Defer update" box in the Options window is not selected.
If I place a new base view of the same assembly in the same drawing, it shows up with the new locations, but the original base view will not update.
I really would prefer not to delete the entire drawing and start over.
I'm having trouble showing a reference part in an assembly drawing. When said part is set to "reference" it is no longer visible on the drawing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am working on a large plant piping project and while I've seen this behavior before I've never seen it this bad.
Attached is a screen shot of a small portion of the assembly drawing in which you can see a good example of what I'm dealing with.
At the top you can see a weld neck flange that appears to be attached to air where there should be an elbow. In the middle you can see that on one side of the elbow there is missing geometry.
At the bottom is another flange that attached to air where there should be an elbow. This drawing is littered with these errors and as such is unsuitable for even a reference document.
I have turned visibility of these components off and on without resolution. I have turned on tangent and interference edges without resolution.
I have translated a copy to ACAD to see if it's simply graphical but the ACAD file shows the same errors. I have checked parallel and perpendicularity and all is well.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHere is the history. I originally created a part with multiple solid bodies.
After creating it I was told we needed to make it an assembly. So what I did instead of recreating each component I called up the original multi-bodied part and did save as copies.
Then deleted the portions of the model I didn't need with only the part needed left.
Then I took all of those parts and assembled them together to form an assembly.
Now, here inlies the problem. When I go to make a drawin gof this assembly all of the balloons are coming up with the same item number as it was when it was a multi-bodied part.
It is clearly an assembly based on the model tree and the file extension.
Recently when I have placed a view of an assembly into an idw drawing, then try to dimension distances between parts it gives me strange looking dimensions, or no dimensions at all. It looks as though the dimensions are going from the edges of each part at different angles, when I want them to be parallel to the view. I just want the dimension from a line to a line in that view as though it is 2d, but it is acting like it is still in 3d. I do not know if their is a setting that will change this or not.
I attached a screen shot of what the dimensions look like.
