Nov 20, 2012I am having problems bringing in an xref dwg in a viewport. The scale for my stationing labels are huge and I cant remember how to fix it.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Field For Viewport Showing XREF Scale First
May 7, 2013I've got a drawing that contains an XREF. I've got a field reading the viewport object's Custom scale>Use scale name. However, whenever the drawing is loaded up all of the XREF's scales get imported. Since they contain the same scales, the field changes to read the XREF scale instead of the one it was set to. They are the same scale, but the field reads the XREF one first. Here is a screenshot showing what I'm talking about. Notice that the viewport's properties never show the scale as 1:20_XREF, but the field does.
I've been having to click "show all scales", do a SCALELISTEDIT, remove the XREFs, then do a UPDATEFIELD. I have to do this every time the drawing is open. It stays that way until C3D is closed. This becomes a problem when I go to PUBLISH a sheet set. If I haven't opened all the sheets in the sheet set and changed the scale list then they all get the wrong scale list shown.

Jun 26, 2013When you double-click on xref within the viewport and refedit opens and allows you to edit xref, how do you exit refedit mode when finished? I can not find the ref edit icon menu on 2013 banner layout.

Sep 4, 2009When i insert a xref in a drawing i always use the command "send to back" in the model space. However when you switch to the layout the xref sometimes is on top of the symbols in the drawing. This problem is easy to fix with send to back but when you want to do this you have to set the viewport to modelspace selct your xref and then send to back. This is easy to do when you only have a few layouts but when you have a couple of layouts with several viewports in each layout it's a very time absorbing job. Is there any variable to make sure that the xref is always send to back in the layout space.
p.s i'm using Autocad LT 2010

Nov 10, 2011I was in paperspace, clicked in the viewport to do something in model space and a compass with north south east and west showed up in the top right corner of my viewport. When I clicked on it, my x-ref rotated. How in the world do I re create this? I have no clue how I even accessed it or what command prompted this to happen.

May 8, 2013In previous versions of Autocad 2008 and earlier you could start a new drawing xref in a drawing then switch to layout and create a viewport that would show the xref. Then you could click inside that viewport and run the FL (freeze layer) command and selectively freeze layers by clicking on them.
In my current version of Autocad Civil 3D 2010, when I follow the same steps as above and run the FL (freeze layer) command inside the viewport, the entire layer contents within the viewport freeze as if everything is on that one layer.
I notice that if I pull up the layer manager box and go down the list of xref'd layers and select the freeze in viewport option for each of the layers I need to freeze it will do what I need to have done, But I'd like to be able to be able to selectively freeze these layers visually within the viewport like I've always been able to do, instead scrolling down a long list of layer names and freezing them that way.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Editing In Viewport That Is Over A Viewport?
Jul 12, 2012I have a drawing with a viewport that fits to the page. And I created another smaller viewport over top that just shows the legend. Now when I try to double click inside the smaller viewport it always goes into the larger one. I have tried bringing the smaller one to the front but that didn't work. I know that I can clip the larger viewport around the smaller one or bring the legend right into paperspace or slid the smaller one off to the side work in it and slide it back. This is more out of curiosity of how to get into the smaller viewport.

I am also receiving a message that says the pdf (file) is corrupt. I have opened the file and it appears fine. I have even tried re-saving the original document under a different name.

Mar 12, 2012I am xrefing a DGN file into my DWG file in Civil 3d 2012. When I go into Layer Manager I cannot see any of the DGN's Levele/Layers? Tell me this isn't so? Am I missing something here, how is one suppose to control Layers in the DGN when it is XREF'd into a DWG?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Can't See Viewport
Aug 18, 2009I am sure this is a widely know thing but I personally have never run into this before. - And don't know how to change it. In paper space I can not see the viewport outline box. When I double click inside the vp the outline box shows up and I can move or rescale. What I want to do is move the vp - and I obviously can't do that unless I can grab the outline box. What is the setting that makes the vp boxes visible or invisable?

Sep 26, 2012I am getting a lot of grief xrefing a C3D file into an AutoCAD drawing. A bit of background...
Fairly large development project with 270 new familiy houses. The sanitary sewer (SS) network was created using AutoCAD only. All layout drawings and xrefs were created using AutoCAD using AutoCAD templates. Then, here I am, putting the entire SS network in C3D, with its fancy labels and relevant long sections. Now I am supposed to display this C3D network in all the layout plans and get rid of the old 2D SS xref. Well, the blody thing doesn't work! If I try to xref the original C3D file, it will only display the labels. All pipes and structures and long section do not display. Yes, I checked all layers are turned on.
I tried using data shortcuts instead, bringing first the relevant part liist and styles. No luck. Again neither a single pipe nor structure is diplayed, although the prospector in the toolspace shows the network is referenced in the drawing. I am not sure if this matters, but the C3D source drawing contains a second pipe network referenced using data shortcuts which, by the way, doesn't display either when xrefing. I tried xrefing the C3D file using my C3D template and it works fine. So I guess that, somehow, the AutoCAD template used to creat the drawings is preventing some C3D objects to be displayed when xrefed.
I know I could recreate all our layout plans using my C3D template. Unfortunately, that would be a long process since we have quite a few and they're all heavily xrefed, with many layer properties overriden.

In order to get a Corridor ID collection I need a reference to a CivilDocument object. So how do I get a CivilDocument object when it isn't the active document? Is there any way to get it from a Document or Database object?

Mar 11, 2011 I'm trying to get a handle on what should and should not be expected to work as far as labeling XREF'd entities goes. I'm using 2011.
I have recently had bearing notes associated with an XREF'd line disappear, and I can't pinpoint the cause.
I had edited a couple of lines in said XREF'd drawing, but NOT the one that was associated with the C3D notes. There are two C3D drawings that XREF this drawing and that have line labels applied to the same, unchanged, line. Yet, all of those labels were gone (in both drawings) when I opened them this morning.
So, should labeling an XREF'd entity work? Are labels predictably lost when a labeled line undergoes a known set of modifications (Sinc relayed his experiences here: [URL] .....
What if the XREF'd drawing is simply saved, with no changes made to a labeled line? Should that be okay?
If labeling XREF's is known to be unpredictable, it sort of puts us back to manual text labels and manual curve tables. Is that really what people are having to do?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Xref's Not Loading In Profile?
Feb 20, 2013I am having a issue when I open a drawing with a profile or a surface xreferenced into it, the profile drawing or the surface drawing needs to be reloaded every time in order for it to appear. This becomes very cumbersome when we try to publish a set and have numerous plan and profile sheets and then the profile doesn’t appear. We have six identical machines in our office with Civil 3D 2013 on them and out of the six two of them have this happen on a regular basis. If I were to go over to the other four machines, there are no issues when we open the drawing or publishing. Is there a setting in AutoCAD that we are overlooking?

May 15, 2013I am looking for a way to make it so that I cannot select an xref. I want it to sit neatly in the background and leave me alone when I'm trying to select things in the current drawing.
I am trying to design roadways on a steep hillside and the contours are very close together such that whe I zoom out to the view the whole project, there is no space on the screen where there aren't several contours within my pickbox. I need the contours on so that I can layout around the topography, but in order to select the centerline of my road without clicking on the contours, I have to zoom in really tight and then select and zoom way out again to manipulate the other lines. It would really speed things up if the xref contours could not be selected at all.

Apr 29, 2013I am currently trying to xref a Civil 3d files into auto cad 2d. So far on the model space it works fine however when i try to put it into paper space the labels on the profiles just seems to go crazy. See the attached picture. (First picture where the label are not displaying correctly in paper space and second drawing in model space of the same drawing which shows the labels correctly).
I believe its the annotation that civil 3d uses to generate these text labels but i am unaware of how this can be solved.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Can't Delete Viewport
Aug 9, 2009On the layout page I have several viewports. 2 of my viewport borders are not visible. I can not pick them, property them, delete them, or manipulate them in any way. When I activate them as "model space" view, I can work in the model space but the border still does not become visible. I only know where the border is by the truncated drawing. Is there any way to correct this problem?
Before I get the usual "turn on your layer" responses: ALL of my layers are thawed, ALL of my layers are on. I am running Civil 3D LDD Companion but have had this "glitch" on previous versions. I seem to remember the only answer is delete layout and start a new layout from scratch. Tell me this is not so!!
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Viewport Scale Changes
Apr 26, 2013In c3d 2013 in the layout tabs when I hover over the annotation scale for the viewport it automatically changes the viewport like a "preview" of that scale. Is there a way to shut that off?
I ask because I believe it is altering my annotative point descriptions so I have to regen everytime my scale changes to see if the scale will work or not. A co-workers computer doesn't seem to preview and it works fine on their computer my preview appears to mess the annotation up on mine.
