I have a drawing that is 50 scale. However my sections are all 10 scale. When I set my viewport to 10 scale, all my text is tiny. I can go into the style of the section view and change the size, but then it's too large in model space. Nothing I've tried will change the size of my text in paperspace.

In paperspace the text are so out of scale and it only shows a specific area of the model view.the other viewports will have a realistic and 2d wireframe.
View 5 Replies View Relatedam in the process of setting up a standard file for all designers to use our local office. This file will have most of the styles created for profiles, alignments, surfaces, profile views, etc... as mostly specified by the customer and industry standards.
I am having trouble maintaining the correct annotation scale in the viewport in paperspace and when plotting.
The attached word document has 3 figures. Fig 1 shows the correct viewport scale and correct annotation scale. Fig 2 shows how the annotation scale abruptly changes during the plotting process. This abrupt annotation scale change sometimes happens during the regen process or when I switch from layout to model space and back to layout.The annotation scale goes from 1:1 to 1:40 just as in the viewport. This change in annotation scale is not supposed to happen because I want to preserve a certain plotting height for my text versus a viewport scale by using various annotation scales.
I have researched the procedures for annotation scale and have not found any info related to this "abrupt change in annotation scale".
Curiously , this abrupt change in annotation scale does not happen if the text does not belong to any styles within Civil 3D. Stand alone text stays at the correct annotation scale and is not affected in the same way.
I have a drawing with several layouts, and in one particular layout only, I want the text to be smaller than the annotation scale would dictate (the viewport is 1"=300', but I want the text to display at 1"=50' annotation scale).
I tried selecting the viewport and changing the "annotation scale" property to 1"=50', then the "standard scale" property to 1"=300'.
Strangely, this seems to work for a bunch of MText objects I have in the drawing, but it won't work for an alignment station label group or for a particular linetype...for some reason, those two things insist on having their annotation scale equal to the viewport scale.
I tried messing around with the alignment station label group's style but couldn't figure anything out. As far as the line/linetype, I'm completely at a loss why that one wouldn't change.
In c3d 2013 in the layout tabs when I hover over the annotation scale for the viewport it automatically changes the viewport like a "preview" of that scale. Is there a way to shut that off?
I ask because I believe it is altering my annotative point descriptions so I have to regen everytime my scale changes to see if the scale will work or not. A co-workers computer doesn't seem to preview and it works fine on their computer my preview appears to mess the annotation up on mine.
I double click in the viewport; under misc the annotated scale is in the list but not the standard scale. I want to set the scale for the viewport. Why doesn't the standard scale show as on option? Or, how to I set the scale in my viewport?

I have successfully created one drawing using annotative dims and text - I have set my text to 1:1 scale, height = 30 in paperspace (although I don't get what this refers to when it automatically says it's 30 in modelspace too) and my viewport is 1:20 scale. It's all good, the dims and text look great, which is what I want at the end of the day, however I got there.
But, when I want to set up another detail at 1:40 scale, I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the same dim and text style appear the same size as it was for the 1:20 detail.
I am using version B.219.3 (UNICODE) of Autocad Civil3d 2008 with service pack 2 loaded.
I am putting together some plan and profile sheets for a civil roadway job.
The annotation scale setting of the text in the profile xref and alignment xref is being ignored in the sheet file viewports. This text should be appearing at 1:40 scale, automatically, same as the viewport scale, but they are appearing very small instead. According to the way annotation scale is supposed to work in Autocad2008, this annotation should be appearing at the correct scale, automatically.
If I try to adjust the annotation scale to a ratio I think will work, it automatically adjusts the viewport scale to match whatever I enter for an annotation scale. What to try next.
Can files become corrupted in AutoCAD? If so, are there utilities to repair corrupt AutoCAD files?
The properties palatte has both these scales listed. In theory, they can be different.I would love to be able to plot my drawing at 1:1000 with the civil objects & labels scaled to 1:500 so they don't overwhelm the plan. It would seem I should be able to simply set the viewport to have a standard scale of 1:1000 and annotation scale 1:500 and be done. But it doesn't work. It will always scale the annotative objects to the standard scale.
My workaround is to scale my sheet double size and plot it half size, to trick the Civil objects & labels.
When I maximize a view port, then zoom in or out, the note labels change scale. I like the way C3D General Note Labels rotate and scale with different viewports, but is there a way to stop them from changing when you are just viewing by maximizing? I know that I can zoom first, then maximize and as long as I don't zoom again, the scale won't change, but this is not practical.

I've got a drawing that contains an XREF. I've got a field reading the viewport object's Custom scale>Use scale name. However, whenever the drawing is loaded up all of the XREF's scales get imported. Since they contain the same scales, the field changes to read the XREF scale instead of the one it was set to. They are the same scale, but the field reads the XREF one first. Here is a screenshot showing what I'm talking about. Notice that the viewport's properties never show the scale as 1:20_XREF, but the field does.
I've been having to click "show all scales", do a SCALELISTEDIT, remove the XREFs, then do a UPDATEFIELD. I have to do this every time the drawing is open. It stays that way until C3D is closed. This becomes a problem when I go to PUBLISH a sheet set. If I haven't opened all the sheets in the sheet set and changed the scale list then they all get the wrong scale list shown.

I have some files that are difficult to work with. Every time I try to change the annotation scale of an existing viewport or create a new viewport and set the annotation scale equal to something other than the default 1"=40' the file fatal errors on me.
Oh, Im on Windows XP 64 (8gb Ram and a Xeon) running C3D 2011 (all service packs and updates applied).
I have a Viewport set to scale 1:100 and the Viewport is locked.The Annotation Scale displayed in the Viewport was 1:50.
When I clicked on the Synchronize Icon beside the Viewport Scale, the Viewport Scale changed, even though the Viewport was locked.
I was expecting the Annotation Scale to synchronize to the Viewport Scale.
Is this how it is supposed to work? and why does a locked Viewport Scale change?

The text is still there...just not visible. i can select the text with no problem. and if i move it off of the viewport then i can see it just fine. this is happening with all the viewports in my drawings... on all tabs. If i close the drawing and reopen then all the text appears again.....but when i switch tabs then come back...the text vanishes again.

The model space text is all the correct size yet once I enter a layout the annotative text relating to 3D elements such as Alignments/Profile Station/Elevation Labels shrink to 1/25 their size. Other annotative objects such as Mtext and Multileaders are not effected. Attached are before and after pictures.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are using Civil 3D 2010, Version 4.1 and it is being used on both WinXP and Win7.
This is an issue that has been coming up at different times with profile views and them shifting when viewed from our viewports in our layout tab. It looks correct in the model space. But it shifts to the right 10' in the layout tab. We have 7 tabs in this drawing. I have looked through all of the profile view settings and it does not seem like any of these are the issue. I created a new viewport in the same tab and received the same shift to the right. I then created a new tab in the same drawing (not copied from the one that has the issue), created a new viewport, and the shift is not there. The PSLTSCALE, MSLTSCALE, and LTSCALE are all set to 1 in all of th tabs.
Woudl there be a layout tab setting that is causing this? This is happening on all of our machines with this drawing so I know it is not a specific user/machine issue. I have attached a .pdf showing the three cases described above if that were to provide any additional insight.
I'm adding a reference system grid to my paper space viewport. The default text format for the military grid reference system is almost perfect, except for the figures that are superscripted (see attached figure) - which I would prefer are aligned on the same baseline as the larger text, but still at the smaller size. Is there a way to customise the text format so that the reference system remains dynamic, but I get the exact format I want?

I can only see a tiny black line which isn't even text, even tho its set to 36ft. I changed the font and size to see if it made a difference, and nothing worked. I restarted PS and my computer several times, and still the same thing...

I couldn’t find the “annotative scale” and “paper text height” properties when dealing with “Civil 3D” objects such as points and contours the same way we have it in the regular AutoCAD.
For example, suppose that I need to increase to decrease the “text height” of the point label considering a particular “annotative scale” property, then how this kind of thing might be done in the AutoCAD Civil 3D?
In civil 3d 2014 i need 2 sections (and a profile) all with different scales in the viewports (layout). Sizing of the labels and bands is all fine, only a text item is not updated. I need to display the scale (the number) for the current section (or profile), it works but the scale shown is always the scale from the model and not the scale from the viewport, so the different scaled sections all have the same text in the label, e.g 1:200, even if they are correctly scaled to different factors in defferent viewports.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I scale a viewport, I normally type in the scale I want into the Viewports toolbar. So if I want the viewport to be 1 to 25, I type in "1:25". I have done this for years. Now all of a sudden, I have started a brand new drawing, setup the company border as A1. Then typed in "1:25" into the toolbar, and it zooms RIGHT in so you cannot see the drawing. But when I use the old fashioned command:
zoom - scale - 1/25xp
It works perfect. Why this is happening with the toolbar?
I have just installed Autocad Architectural 2011 (64Bit) on my computer, since my laptop was struggeling with running autocad 2009.
I have opened a 3d model of my building (created in the 2009V) in Cad 2011, played around a little bit and am now at the point of having to create some viewports to plot elevations etc. But now i am stuck, i have created a viewport, selected it and can't figure out how to set the scale. I saw there was a 'button' (that is not working?) on the bottom, saying 'Vieport Scale', i can't click on it to change the scale, so i went to properties. When i select 1/100 Standard Scale, it automatically goes back to Custom Scale and sets it to 0.005. Basically nothing happens! The only way it changes the scale is when i double click on the viewport and zoom in/out on my building. But that can't be the only way to do it?!
I have got a deadline coming up, and really can't work on my laptop again as it keeps overheating and crashing on me! How to set the scale of my viewport and actually get it to do it?
recently upgraded to a new stand alone LT 2012 on brand new machine.I only work in metric millimeters. When I open a new drawing and set up a viewport on a new layout tab the viewport scale list is as one would expect i.e. 1:1 1:2 1:4 1:5 1:10 1:25 1:50 etc etc
when I open an existing drawing I only have the option of imperial scales i.e. fractions. I have tried simply adding the most commonly used scales to the list but once the drawing is saved and closed, they have disappear when reopened.
