AutoCAD Civil 3D :: What Type Of Objects Can Be Projected Into Profile Or Section View
Dec 13, 2012
What type of objects can be projected into a profile view? I know that points, feature lines, and multiview blocks can be projected with variable results. I can't even find a simple list within Civil 3D's.

I have set one station equation in my alignment and it displays correctly in horizontal view and in profile. But stations of projected objects after that equation are not correct in projected object label. It displays station values as it would be without station equation. If i manually insert profile view label for that point it is correct.
As you can see in attached image green station value (that one is label for projected points) is wrong because it does not take equation into calculation. How to make projected objects labels to consider station equation?
I have projected objects to multiple section views (ProjectObjectsToMultiSect) but now I want to remove them all. How do I remove all of the projected objects?
I can select an individual section view and go to the Projections tab in the Section View Properties and uncheck the projections, but how do I do this for all the views at once.
I was wanting to know if there is a way stop part of a projected object from displaying if it is to far away from an alignment profile cut to be of any use.
I know in Revit you can set the deep of view from the section line not sure if you can do anything like this in Civil3d.
1. I had trouble with profile view of the alignment line shown. What step am i missing? Are there things that is turned off?
2. How can I best come up with the right volume to fill.
3. Do I need to learn the grading tools? or could i get buy with a section profile from the alignment. ( it is not even an alignment yet)
4. How to I render a rock fill in this cave-in.
The attached aerial image , has survey or cogo points that are imported to surface, to become surface points. . So I wanted to create a surface profile below and an outline of fill above it. Iideally the side profile would look like a trapezoid, where the base is the surface proile and top would be the design embankment.
But the reason , a surveying crew went down and took shots at the shoreline and a couple shots around the cave-in walls (higher elevation on the cave-in wall cannot be surveyed, although I coud have used a laser , did not) is so that a more accurate volume of the cave in can be obtained. I tried to label how far the road edge is from edge of the cave-in . Norice the higher elevations are the top edge around the cave in area.
The ouline for the embankment will be a mild slope then breaks to a more steep slope. like 4 :1 , then 1.5:1
Any new methods for depicting flared end sections in profile views in Civil 3D 2013 or 2012? I just loaded Civil 3D 2013 last week and have been checking to see if flared end section depiction in profile views is any better than previous versions. I haven't noticed anything different. I'm I the only one wanting a easier way to depict flared end sections in profiles? In short, I have never been able to figure it out.
recommend a good way to indicate the location of cross section sample lines in a profile view (of same alignment) as vertical lines? the sample lines have been created at user defined locations from polylines, and do not follow a particular station order. my first thought was to use transparent command to draw line in profile view using station from plan view, but i have in excess of 100 cross sections, and that may be time consuming.
When using the model documentation in autocad 2013 is it possible to select certain objects in a projected view and still have them show up in the base (parent) view? Another way to put it; can I isolate objects in one projected view only?
Is there a good place to go to read post from people that are using this new feature for production or some in-depth tutorials?
In Section View the material region is filled with a solid hatch, this obscures other objects such as the bounding surfaces and labeling.
For some reason the material hatch is always on top in the display order Manually forcing it to the back in the display order is possible. This is not a reasonable solution due to the time involved and repetition.Transparency allows the objects beneath to be visible but their tool tips are not functioning due to the overlap. The same would apply to using something other than a solid hatch. The primary concerns are:
Visibility of all objectsSelectibility of objectsTooltip functionality
I ‘ve put some blocks (Cone penetration test) in a profile view. Then I created view frames and sheets. I tried to insert those blocks into the sheets with the 'Project objects to profile view' command. I get the message: “There are 10 objects outside the Profile view's station range and will therefore be ignored.”
I have created a profile. I have my surfaces, projected other surfaces onto it, looks good. So then, I want to do some simple drawing on my profile. Everything looks good in model space. Create a viewport for the profile and things(basic linework) appear in a different location than where I drew them. I figure I need to project an object to make it work because they are associated.
So I draw my simple arc ( arch culvert) with footings and block it. great its where i want it and its a block. Gave it the appropriate elevation when creating the block. go through the project objects and it added. But now its added it in a different spot.
When I select an object to view in my profile, all I get is "0 objects selected". I have tried selecting several objects in plan top view, but get "0 selected". What is the "simple" solution that I am overlooking?
I have a marker on a cross section that was projected from a short feature line that I created from a 3DPolyline. If I move the cross section (they never come in correctly, right?), the feature line moves too. If I use a 3Dpoly, this doesn't happen. Only went to the feature line because for some reason, when I went to Project Multiple, the 3Dpolys weren't picked up.
Now I wondering if I've moved feature lines on other projects where I have moved the sections. Could be a real problem. Most of those, though, had a mix of feature lines and 3Dpolys, so they would only be partially messed up! Hopefully, I moved the sections before doing the projection.
Say I'm projecting some 3D polylines to a profile view I have, and the 3D polylines cross the alignment defining the profile view. Is there a way to format the projections such that the point of intersection is identified, and that the points will be updated if I change either the alignment or the 3D polylines?
Say you have a feature line in plan view and you project it to profile view. Is there a way to label the true slope of the projected feature line segments in profile?
The profile view depth labels are not accurate since it's simply calculating the length from station to station in profile.
...and of course this does not correspond to the true segment length since the feature line is not parallel to the alignment.
is it possible to get the start and end station of each projected objects?
see picture. what i am doing is based on the different colour. they are geotechnical requirement for the minimul fill depth. so i am thinking about making a program to put in a profile for me and then put horizontal curves. so don't need to do anything by hand. good starting point at least. save a lot of time and not really hard to code either.

I tried moving a Profile View and even though I selected everything at once and selected a base point and destination point, the Profile View Station and Elevation labels moved with a different offset than the Profile View itself. ?
I am having an issue when producing a section view with my corridor. I have a corridor and corridor surface, as well as an existing ground surface. I create a sample line group and sample EG, Corridor Surface, and Material. When I produce a section view I get 4 sections in the view: EG, Corridor Surface(with the corridor surface naming convention), and an additional section simply called "Corridor Surface".
This last section is strange in that it seems to be using the correct assembly, but not targeting the correct features. Also it has grips at all of the vertices which I havent seen before.
And the strangest part, when I click on properties for this section and go to section data, the columns for Description and Data Source are blank.
If there is no data source, then where is this section coming from, and why is it showing up when I did not specify that it be created. This is a real mind boggler to me and makes no sense. Screenshot attached.
My future ground somehow disappeared out of one section view in my group. Under the section tabs I still have my existing ground and pipenetwork but the future ground isn't there. It remains in the other section views. How do I add it back?
I am trying to perform a sweep of a profile and I am unable to select the profile. I have a part with a plane through the part. I created a profile on this plane that I want to sweep along my path. However whenever I try to select the profile I am unable to, even when I sectioned the part to the created plane.
I'm working with a structure profile label style and it seems like the only way to anchor the position of the label is based on offsets from the structure itself... Any way to position the label based on the top of the profile view, so that I could make all of my labels horizontally aligned above the profile view?
After upgrading to Inventor 2014 we notice that the graphics do not work properly, and that the overall performance in drawings and modelling bad compared to 2013. Then we installed SP1 and now drawing views are disappearing, however when we select "shaded" view the view reappears and works perfectly..
I have yet to produce a profile. I created a polyline and turned it into an alignment.
Looking at alignment Sample(3), I see that it is not superimposed over your surface. The polylines are, but the alignment is not. That will disallow creation of a surface profile.
Is the sample5 an alignment that sits on the surface? how come there is still no profile?
