AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Test The Height Of Fill Slope Relative To Daylight Catch Point?
Sep 23, 2013
This seems like something that should be really easy but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I even started looking at using the Subassembly composer to create a custom SA but that seems like a ton of work so something that would seem to be a common problem.
I need to provide a v-ditch with 2:1 side slopes at the toe of a 2:1 fill slope. The flow line of the ditch should be 2 ft below the daylight point of the roadway pavement section.
My problem is that the conditional subassembly seems to evaluate the height of fill directly beneath the attachment point of the conditional SA (pavement section daylight point in my case – “Daylight_Sub” Point code). Instead I need it to evaluate the difference in elevation between the catch point of a 2:1 daylight fill slope and the conditional SA attachment point (Daylight_sub). If that difference is less than 2 feet, I need to provide the ditch, otherwise I can just use the daylight slope for the ditch foreslope and the existing surface for the backslope.
how to do this? Maybeits as easy as using a predefined daylight subassembly that I'm overlooking?
Here’s my current assembly attempt:
And the resulting behavior. It is solving the 2nd fill condition when I would like it to solve the 1st fill condition:

I wonder is it possible to have a daylight (or other function) that can give a different slope for datum and for the top. This would be useful for if you have different rules (e.g. because of geotech) with regard to temporary and permanent batter slopes.

I'm modeling a simple corridor (12' lane 2%, 6' shoulder 6%, 4:1 to match EG). I used the "LinkSlopeToSurface" subassembly for the 4:1 to match the EG. Unfortunately our EG isn't always wide enough for the 4:1 slope to match it somewhere.
Is there an assembly that would use 4:1 as a standard daylight slope, but where necessary adjust the slope, max. 3.5:1, to match EG surface?

I need to daylight to an offset, to create a clear zone/fall zone, but it must have a maximum slope of 6:1. If no daylight is found at the offset and maximum slope, then grade at the maximum slope to the offset then daylight to the target suface at a steeper slope.

I have a fairly simple corridor, however, I had to modify the alignment, rebuild the corridor and resample cross-sections. Now my right daylight slope won't show up. It shows up in the section viewer, but not the cross-section. I had this problem once before and fixed it, but now I can't remember how I did...I have all targets, sections sampled match corridor sampling etc.

I like to create a daylight assembly with following criterias
Fill/cut Condition
1. Target to surface 2.5% slope
2. If the surface is not met within 19 m from centreline, then till 19 m 2.5% slope and 33% slope afterwards till it hit the surface.

I am using a feature line to create a grading for a residential house pad. The county grading ordinance calls for a 6' drainage terrace (bench) when slopes exceed 40' in vertical height. I know that for corridor grading you can specify a slope bench with a subassembly but that is not what I am doing here.
I'd like a solution where the grading remains dynamic because I know that benching will cause slopes to cross property lines. I also want to keep the dynamic nature to be able to make adjustments to balance the earthwork.

I have slope % angles labeled on a plan, but they are too large. They are 1/8" tall, and I need them to be 3/32" tall. I have checked the style (ROMANS) to be sure the text height is set to 0", and it is. I've also ensured that these labels are on this label style.
Check the screenshot. I added 2 screenshots with a huge difference in font size just to be sure my point gets across. And, I have hit APPLY and closed the window just to be sure. You will see up top, I have it set to 3/32". Actually the text isn't showing right, it is still stuck on 1/8". But, regardless, you can see in the lower screenshot where I have changed it to 3", but the text has not changed.
As a side note, the text on the slope labels should match the height of the contour labels you can see in the screenshots.

I have created a road for a pit mine (which is unlike roads I have designed in the past). The road switched back towards itself and I need to daylight the cut slopes to show the limits of the mine/road cut. However, my cut/fill lines are not showing up in my cross-sections, but the plan view is showing the limits of excavation.
I assume this is because my limits are intersecting, from each of the roads, the upper and the lower. How can I get around this, or why are my cross-section lines not showing?

I use Civil 3D 2011 and I am new to it. I have created a natural ground surface from survey points. Now i want to create a finished surface with a specific slope in a specific direction at a specific elevation and then to calculate cut and fill volume.
I can create a flat surface at a specific elevation. How to tilt this surface to a specific slope along a specific direction.

Am I correct in assuming that if Surface Labels by One Point is chosen, the slope as shown is the maximum slope of the surface triangle where the point was chosen??

I have a surface, to which I've added data from a ENZ file. No problems - I had a workable surface. I want to be able to work on the drawing at home as well as work. So I brought home the DWG as well as the ENZ file thinking that if both were in the same directory, it would work OK. But I get an error saying the Point file can't be found. I can't see any way to make the file reference relative, rather than absolute.

How to choose my starting point to be relative to another point without drawing help lines (which mean they must be drawn, selected, deleted = time).
For argument's sake, consider I am attempting to draw a cross. I use the line command, input a starting point; choose next point: @100<0 (to draw a line 100 units in length at an angle 0 [relative to X axis] relative to previous point).
Now I need a vertical line of equal length to cross the middle-point of the horizontal one.
I could snap to middle-point, draw a line of half-length at angle 90 and draw another of 2.(length) at angle -90. This produces 2 lines one of which is unwanted must therefore be selected and deleted.
This simple example illustrates my point.
I need a command which allows me to choose my first point (for the LINE command) as the point which is "X" units at angle "alpha" relative to a point "x,y" (or a coordinate selected by the SNAP tool if you will).

Can you not perform a slope-slope intercept to place a PVI? Essentially holding the sta and elev of the PVI's directly before and after the PVI of interest and changing the grade in and out so that the sta and elev of the PVI of interest are changed.

i need a shoulder subassembly that varies slope in relation to the lane superelevation slope. i know that i can get a subassembly for the shoulder that will follow the alignment superelevation xml data but in my case i can't use it because we are just adding a shoulder to an existing road. we're not changing the superelevation of the existing road, just milling and overlaying and widening. right now i've created a profile of the outside edge of the shoulder that gives me the correct shoulder slope but whenever i change my centerline profile i have to redo the shoulder profiles which is a real time suck.

I am in the process of transitioning from land desktop to Civil 3D. I design roads in steep terrain and sometimes need to have my catch (daylight) slopes change. So my question is, how do I change a daylight slope at a specified depth? For example, from the shoulder of the road I want a 3:1 fill slope to a depth of 10 feet than change to a 2:1 slope until it catches the existing surface. Can this be built into a subassembly such that if the fill is less than 10 feet it will daylight correctly at a 3:1 and if the depth is greater than 10 feet then it carries the 3:1 for 10 vertical feet and then changes to the 2:1 until it daylights?

In X6, I select the Text tool, then in the docker or on the tool ribbon I set the point size to, say, 12 points.
But, with the Text tool still active, when I click to deposit artistic text, the point size changes to 24 and the text is deposited in that size.
Next time I select the Text tool, the point size shows as 12. But when I click to deposit artistic text, the point size changes to 24 and the text is deposited in that size.
How can I arrange for all artistic text I deposit to have a certain point size I choose.

I have a problem with absolute and relative coordinate regarding drawing an arc.
From my previous studies, I thought whenever I input coordinates in command line, in order to use absolute coordinates I just enter them. If I want to use relative coord, then I can prefix them with @ sign.
For an arc I input as follows: start point: 0,0 2nd point: 500,500 end point: 1000,0. I was expecting to get a half circle from origin to 1000,0 point but to my surprise I find out that CAD gets the input coordinates as relative.
Am I missing something? 1.dwg1.jpg Is this behavior same for all other object drawings?

For example , line which is 40 and i want it to be 60 ill click the blue dot, move the mouse in the direction i want and type 20.
Right now if i do the same the length of the line become 20.

When I select all of my building pads and topo and move them vertically up or down by the SAME amount, the cut and fill volumes change. Apparently the cut/fill is being calculated relative to something that is NOT THE GRADED SURFACE. Maybe the Level line? I don't know. The volumes shouldn't change at all when I move both the topo and pads together! How can I trust these numbers?

Usually when you draft, you need to place objects relative to other points. Is this not possible in Revit? Temporary dimensions are useful, but sometimes it measures a distance I don't have the value of. If I can't select the relative distance for myself, I have to place the window or door and then adjust the distance afterwards.
