AutoCAD Civil 3D :: File Dates Shown Incorrectly In Open File Dialog Box

Apr 24, 2013

I'm using Autocad Civil3D 2011, Version 3.  Just yesterday I noticed that the file date shown in Autocad's open file dialog box shows an earlier time than Windows Explorer, which shows the file date and time correctly.  When I enter the "time" command on the autocad command line, the correct time is shown for the "last updated" time.

For example:

The Autocad open file dialog box shows the file having a time/date of     4/23/2013     3:54 PM

Windows Explorer shows the file having a time/date of                             4/23/2013     4:10 PM

"TIME" command at autocad prompt returns the following:

Current time:             Wednesday, April 24, 2013  3:55:35:454 PM
Times for this drawing:
  Created:                Thursday, March 27, 2008  5:49:57:104 PM
Last updated:           Tuesday, April 23, 2013  4:10:56:299 PM
Total editing time:     17 days 15:31:26:967
Elapsed timer (on):     17 days 15:31:26:967
Next automatic save in: 0 days 00:09:58:237

I rebooted and restarted autocad, and resaved my file with the same results (although with different times-but again the autocad open file dialog box showed an incorrect, earlier time).  I have never had this problem before, and it is driving me crazy as I usually sort my files by date to assure that I am working with the latest file.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Multiple Inverts From Junction / Inlet In SSA

Jan 24, 2013

I am working on drainage for a median storm sewer, culverts and ditching for a large freeway expansion project.  I have median storm sewers running down my entire roadway (about 5kms).  I have manually inputed the upstream and downstream elevations of the pipes in SSA, but when these pipes are connected to an inlet or junction, I only have the option of selecting one invert elevation for each structure (I am actually using a lot of catchbasin manholes in this project, which I am unsure of SSA's ability to model).  I have multiple drops of varying elevation differences throughout the project, with some of these inlets/junction requiring drop structures due to the large difference in elevation change.  How do I properly model this in SSA?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Pipe Network Data Shortcuts Incorrect Inverts

Oct 10, 2013

I have a source drawing with a proposed surface, alignment, and pipe network.  When I data shortcut these objects into a new drawing, everything comes in correctly except the pipes.  The inverts are incorrect.  The pipes maintain correct slope, just the inverts on both ends are off.  The structures they are attached to have the correct rim and sump.

I have included a screen shot of the properties box for the same pipe in the source and referenced file.

I'm at a loss.  I have made sure the parts list and rules are identical in both files.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2012 Edit Pipe Networks Set Inverts At Inside Edge Of SDMH

Apr 26, 2013

I created a pipe network from a object (alignment wLpolyline) I want to set my inverts at the inside edge

of my SDMH not the center. I go into Edit Pipe Networks then the vista (table). I don't see a option to do that.

Is there a setting in the SDMH structure style or somewhere else?

As an example I come in at 6250.0 at inside a 48" MH and go out at 6251.0 at other side of MH.

I wanted to use a catch basin that shows the depressed curb & lip like the one in the Pipe Network Video

but it not in my parts Library even when I create a full parts list it still isn't there. Is ther a way to go on line and download part structures?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Created User Defined Properties To Add Up To 5 Inverts To Topo Point Object

Aug 26, 2013

I have created user defiined properties to add up to 5 inverts to a topo point object.  Each consists of the direction of the invert as an enumerated list that can be picked from (N, NE, S, SE, etc) and the second is the measured distance from rim down to IE.  I created these in order IE1_Dir, IE1_Meas, IE2_Dir, IE2_Meas, etc and the first time I used it everything worked fine and was in the proper order.  Now after opening the drawing for a 2nd time all of the UDP's are scrambled making it a bit of a PITA to enter into the proper fields.

I do not see any logical order to why it is displaying this way as if it was in order of creation or alphebetical it would not have changed.  Is there any way to correct this or is this a case of Civil 3D is going to do whatever it wants to do?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Test The Height Of Fill Slope Relative To Daylight Catch Point?

Sep 23, 2013

This seems like something that should be really easy but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I even started looking at using the Subassembly composer to create a custom SA but that seems like a ton of work so something that would seem to be a common problem.

I need to provide a v-ditch with 2:1 side slopes at the toe of a 2:1 fill slope. The flow line of the ditch should be 2 ft below the daylight point of the roadway pavement section.

My problem is that the conditional subassembly seems to evaluate the height of fill directly beneath the attachment point of the conditional SA (pavement section daylight point in my case – “Daylight_Sub” Point code).  Instead I need it to evaluate the difference in elevation between the catch point of a 2:1 daylight fill slope and the conditional SA attachment point (Daylight_sub). If that difference is less than 2 feet, I need to provide the ditch, otherwise I can just use the daylight slope for the ditch foreslope and the existing surface for the backslope.

how to do this? Maybeits as easy as using a predefined daylight subassembly that I'm overlooking?

Here’s my current assembly attempt:

And the resulting behavior. It is solving the 2nd fill condition when I would like it to solve the 1st fill condition:

Noticed this in R2013? Not bothering to check with 2014 yet as I don't really use it.I have three vports. TL is Profile view, TR is SV and other is 3d.

There seems to be slight difference between the pipes in the profile/sections compared with the Structure pipe crossing.

All styles are set for External walls, when swapped to internal this is still incorrect. All pipes are same size & part and are Horizontal. Sections / alignment is taken along centre of pipework.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: New Part Builder Pipe Displays Incorrectly In Profile View?

Dec 31, 2013

Using part builder, I created a new pipe part for an odd-sized CMP arch pipe.  In plan view, the pipe looks good.  At first glance, I thought the pipe was drawn correctly in a profile view, but I realized that the pipe was displayed with the invert located at the wrong place in the profile view.  I thought this was because the insertion point of the new pipe part that I had made was placed at the incorrect location in part builder.

So, I swapped out the incorrect pipe size for another one that I knew was correct, and then deleted the incorrect pipe from the pipe parts list, and  went back to part builder, and placed the insertion point at the invert of the pipe; then saved the edited pipe part, ran partcatalogregen, added the "corrected" pipe part to the pipe parts list and swapped in the new corrected pipe size to the pipe network.  However, the pipe still displays incorrrectly on the profile view.

The pipe data is correct in the pipe properties: the invert is stated to be located at elevation 20.  The overall height of the pipe , 38" (3.1667') is correctly displayed on the profile view.  But the actual location of the pipe invert is not shown at the correct location, elevation 20, on the profile view.

I have noticed that only one of the multi view blocks within the landscape tab is showing as I would expect - the rest all look like an extruded cross... I don't know how to fix this or whether this is correct.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Parcel Area Not Shown

Oct 21, 2013

I am new to C3D and I have been going through all of the tutorials and learning everything I can from the given data, which has been amazingly useful.  Everything has been running spot on except today when I was going throughtthe parcels tutorial, I applied Parcel Number and Area to a group of parcels I created via the tutorial dwg file "Parcle-1A".  Everything displays correctly except the Area is not shown as it does in the sample pic.  I have applied the "Parcel Number And Area" to the Area Label Style, but it still does not display the area.  Only the Parcel Number.  Is there some part of this process that I am overlooking?  The tutorial dwg file is called "Parcel-1A".  It was too large to attach, but you can find all of the tutorial dwg files via the Help Menu.  It depends on your OS to where they are located.

If you go under Parcels Tutorial>Exercise 1: Creating Parcels from AutoCAD Objects, you can see exactly what I am working with.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Existing Ground Not Shown In Corridor Section Editor

Jul 7, 2011

I've worked with LDD for 11 yrs. Last week the IT guys changed my PC to Windows 7 64bit, so I can't have LDD and I have to work with C3D. so I am following software tutorials.

for designing a road I created:

alignment ---> surface profile ---> layout profile (project line) ---> assembly ---> subassemblies ---> corridor ---> set target surface and frequencies

Corridor is created with daylights ,but I don't see existing ground in corridor section editor.

There is nothing about this in tutorial. Also I don't know how to calculate the volumes, in LDD after this stage we could calculate the volumes. i think in C3D I should do more for calculation.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assembly Point Codes Not Shown In Section Views?

If i do the same for link label it does show both in assembly and in section views.

AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Get Around Catch 22

May 29, 2013

Yet another example of a faulty installation of 2013 living under the canopy of Mechanical Desktop.  I have the Product Design Suite and run 2013 as a sub-set of Mechanical Desktop.  It has always been a bit squirrely and certainly not like a stand-alone copy..

Today when I opened it up, a window popped up telling me that there was a new release available. So I clicked on it and up popped another window which was supposed to automatically download and install Rev. 2.  Nope - it just sat there doing nothing.

Not to be thwarted, I went to the Autodesk web site and picked downloads and AutoCAD 2013 for 64 bit and downloaded the link.  When I invoked that I got a message telling me that it could not find the application on my computer.

Who creates this less than robust software?how to get around the Catch 22??

The hardware is a Lenovo S-30 with Windows 7

System.Windows.Forms.Application.ThreadException += new ThreadExceptionEventHandler(OnThreadException);

AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(CurrentDomain_UnhandledException);

but this seems not to have any effect, the exceptions are not being caught.
