AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Plotting With Viewport Filled

Sep 24, 2012

I am curious what would cause my viewport to print as if it is filled with solid hatch?  I haven't changed any settings for the viewport and even recreated it from scratch.  In my print preview it shows it will print as it looks on the screen, however when it actually prints, it's filled in solid.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Can't Hide A Polygonal Viewport When Plotting

Jun 3, 2013

I brought a normal 4 sided viewport into my layout, but needed to clip and make a viewport with 6 sides.  I have also tried to redraw this by using a polygonal viewport.  When I go to plot the page, parts or all of the viewport boundaries are on.  It doesn't matter if I go to layer control and turn the layer off or freeze or select the non-plotting icon.

When I open  up the drawing on my computer, it plots perfectly. I attached a clip of it, the thick black is our drawing border, the viewport is where the color stops.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Plotting Blocks With Viewport Transparency

Jan 8, 2014

Trying to get blocks to plot transparent for only 1 viewport.  Using viewport transparency works for all objects in applicable layer except blocks that have been created using "0" layer. I cannot use transparency by block since the blocks must show in other layouts without transparency.  Also cannot re-create blocks using different layer since the source file is kept on network for all to use.  Is there a way to plot blocks with the vp transparency of its current layer despite having created the block in another layer?

I know that I can clip the larger viewport around the smaller one or bring the legend right into paperspace or slid the smaller one off to the side work in it and slide it back. This is more out of curiosity of how to get into the smaller viewport.

I can't just save as an earlier version and plot in C3d 2009 because my alignments gets screwy.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Plotting A Symbol Over A Line

Nov 1, 2012

I'm having trouble plotting a symbol over a line. For example, I'm doing a corner record and need to put our symbol for a set pipe on the corner of the property line. Our symbol for a pipe is just an open circle. I want to put the circle on the corner and do not want the the property line to be shown inside that circle. Essentially I want to make it look like I trimmed the line inside the circle but I want to leave the line intact so there is no gap in the boundary. What is the way to do something like this?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Error When Plotting By Window?

Mar 11, 2013

When Civil 3D 2013 came out I downloaded it and installed it. I imediately discovered that when selecting my window during plotting by window, if I zoomed or panned I would not be able to pick any points and would have to hit escape SEVERAL times to get it to exit out of the selection command. AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 Hotfix 1 solved the problem and all was good.

When our office decided to all move to 2013 last month (DEC 2012) I installed it on the workstations then installed the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 Service Pack 1 skipping the hotfix. I assumed it was included (WHICH IT STATES THEY ARE IN THE README). Sadly I was wrong because we are experiencing the same issue all over again. All of our workstations that installed 2013 and then SP1 without installing the Hotfixes.

I have tried to install Hotfix 1 on these workstations but it doesn't install on the SP1 version AND there is no way to uninstall SP1 without uninstalling Civil 3D all together.

We need this to get fixed sooner than later because it is a major hassel to lock up everytime we go to plot.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Background Masks Are Not Plotting?

They do not plot whether it is selected through the MText dialog or in an Object Label dialog box.

I have made sure the draw order was correct and made sure that the "Lines Overwrite" option is selected.

This is happening on all three of our workstations which are a mix of XP and Win 7. We are printing to a KIP 3000 and I have made sure the drivers are up-to-date.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Labels Not Plotting Correctly

Nov 28, 2012

I'm using Civil 3D 2012.  When it generates labels (alignment stationing, profile station & elevation, etc.), it keeps generating them in layer 0.  It does not matter how I change the styles to the layer that I want.

It allows me to change the properties of the labels to the layer that I want after the labels have been generated.  They look ok on my computer screen.

However, when I plot the plans, the labels do not follow the lineweights that the layer should be on.  I think it still plotting as if it was layer 0. If I explode the labels, I can get them to plot correctly by changing the layer.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Plotting To HP DesignJet T1200

Mar 27, 2012

I have an HP DesignJet T1200. We are using AutoCad Civil 3D to plot large files that were exported from PLS CAD. These files contain multiple ECW's that average 5-10 megs each. Is there a customization we need to set to get the plotting time down.

Currently it takes 8-10 min for AutoCad to process the plot and once it is sent it takes another 8-10 min for the plotter to start plotting. This is telling me that there is something wrong with our setup. (see below)

workstations = DELL T3500 with Windows XP Pro; Intell Xeon 320GHz; Nvidia Quadro 4000/2g onboard RAM; 4g system RAM

Plotter = HP DesignJet T2100 on network

We usually have projects that contain 150-200 drawings that we need to work on and plot per project. This plotting time is killing our productivity!

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Plotting With Proper Line Weights From DWG To PDF

Feb 23, 2012

I’m a student in a land surveying program using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012. When I try to plot my DWG to a PDF my line weights are not plotting accordingly to the layers. For instance, Layer 1 is set at 0.7mm line weight, Layer 2 is set at 0.3mm but when it plots to PDF they all look similar. I have double checked the options on the plotting screen and I can get the line weights to plot correctly on different drawings with similar settings. I’m wondering if the issue has something to do with the fact that the particular lines that are not plotting accordingly are parcel segments.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Match Line Text Not Plotting

I have moved the match line object to the top of the drawing order, double checked the layer to verify that it is not set to no plot, and verified that the xref with the match line is on the top of the drawing order.

Attached is a screen capture of the corner PDF I plotted.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Input On Layer Display When Plotting

Feb 22, 2012

I've been working in C3D for about 5 yrs now, and one thing that drives me absolutely nuts about it is how to get the correct layers to display when plotting different sheets out of the same drawing, regardless of the layer state of my model.  I worked in Terramodel for about 5 years prior to coming back to AutoCAD and became spoiled by the ease with which layers displayed on different sheets in the same drawing.  You assigned a layer state to the viewport and that viewport always plotted that way.

It didn't matter what layers were on or off, frozen or thawed in the model view, once you jumped over to the sheet it always looked the same once you set it up.  In C3D I've tried viewport overrides, jumping into the viewport and setting the layers then saving the layer state...  All sorts of different approaches, but I've never found anything that really works.  My projects are typically small enough that I have all of my sheets in the same drawing but want different layer settings on different sheets.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Label And Object Settings Using Layer 0 And Plotting?

Dec 31, 2012

I am having problems plotting out parcels and creating label settings.  I think I am missing an important concept in the object and display tab of setting creation.  I am not finding going through the documentation.   What I have found is not well explained.

I started with the OOB alignment settings.  I noted that the Basic setting has a description that states the object will take on the settings of the layer it is created on.

I noted that if I adjusted the alignment properities to "Basic". I could then move the 'roadway' alignments to P-RD-CL and the swale alignments to P-SWALE-CL.  Freezing the P-SWALE-CL then turns off the swale CL's, but keeps the roadway ones on.

I am looking for a fast way to determine which styles this works for or the area of the documentation that better explains how this works.

I am starting to explore creating label styles the same way.  That way I can double or triple label pipe networks such that identical styles are labeled on an E&S layer and a PCSM layer and the individual lables can be dragged on the two different sheet layouts in the same file to avoid text over writes.
