We have a points file to create a "bottom of peat level" surface. The only problem is, along with the X and Y, it only gives us the distance from OGL, not the actual Z Elevation at each point. How do we import these into C3D to create a surface? We have a topo survey for the whole site, so we have and EG surface.
View 9 RepliesWhen I import points from an external project point database (LDD) which I do quite often to import points from 2008 to Civil 3d it works fine for me, but when a co-worker tries doing it from the same exact drawing just a different computer it does not work. Whe he tries to do it, a red "X" appears telling him there is some kind of error. VERY strange and I have no clue why????

I would like to create a survey topo drawing that contains points and surface information which other Design drawings that are attached to the Data Shortcut project can access but not be able to make any changes to the original points and existing surface information.
When i import points (csv) from my excel sheet into Civil 3D, i can't see the actual points on the display frame, but i can see that the points have been imported by looking at the prospector tab > Points.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am building a new template for our office and just finished building my Description Key Code Set, and Figure Prefix Database. I stopped to do a quick trial run on one of our surveying files, but when I imported the file all of the figure lines imported correctly but the points all came in the default point style and label style. I went to the Settings Tab/Points/Commands and made sure my "Disable Description Keys" was set to False. This is not my first template and I have never had this issue before.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe're moving [slowly, painfully] from LDD to Civil 2012. When importing a survey fieldbook in LDD, my method has always been to "clean up" the fieldbook during the import. Rather than search through the fieldbook text file manually, I'll let the import process find the duplicate, overwritten points, or errant linecodes, and then exclamate them or change them in the fieldbook and, if necessary, reimport the fieldbook. Figures and breaklines use the initial coordinate, for instance, so sometimes a reimport is (was) necessary.
So our survey crews "overwrite" points in the field for bad rod heights, angles, descriptions, etc... During the LDD import process that point number is flagged and I am given the option to overwrite/average/etc.... In Civil 3D I seem to be stuck with an average of the two observations, and I'm not even alerted about which point numbers come from these "multiple observations." So I've no idea without sifting through the often substantial list of point numbers which points have duplicate data connected to them.
I've combed through the import options and I just don't see what I'm looking for, which, in a phrase, is to be alerted when there are duplicate numbers in the fieldbook.
I have a .dwg file with an AT-LCC projection assigned to it. There are some .shp files connected to it.
Can I choose the projection of to-be-imported-points when I import some laserscan-files in ASCII format? So I can tell AutoCAD: these points are in MGI-AT.AUT-Central/GK projection, please convert them to my desired projection.

open a new document assign the origin-projection (here; MGI-AT.AUT-Central/GK) to the fileimport the pointsexport the points as .shp file, define a projection-system conversion to target projection (here: AT-LCC)open the file with the target projection assigned to it (here: AT-LCC)import the .shp file
Our Surveyor created the Point Styles and description keys for processing our field work. These were incorporated in our template. Yesterday he brought in field work an noticed that only a few of the symbols incorporated into the markers came in.
The blocks exist in the drawing but when you go to edit the point marker only 8 out of 152 blocks show in the window below "Use AutoCAD BLOCK symbol for marker". I tried a backup of that template from 5 months ago and got the same results. I've verified that the blocks still exist in the drawing both by listing them and exploring them in Design Center. If I try other templates the window shows all the blocks.
I have tried Audit and Recover with no improvement. Thirteen errors fixed but the blocks still don't show. Additionally I found a backup of the template from Feb., 2013 and get the same problem but the lack of blocks only just occurred.

Sometimes when i import points Civil 3d creates a Point group in the drawing with the name of the point file, sometime it does not. I prefer when it does create this point group. It always seems to create a Survey Point Group. How do i control wether or not a point group is created in the import?

I created new file, assigned any coordinate system to the model. Opened Import points windows there, created new file format which there I assigned Coordinate zone transform to the coordinate system of the text file and imported my text file. But the coordinates of points didn't changed or transformed. When I do it by Survey in Toolspace its works good. I want to know whether I did any wrong or it is problem of software.
I use AutoCADCivil 2013 64 bit in Windows 7 64 bit!
I’ve run into an issue with importing survey data using field books.
I started by importing my primary control using a field book. There were no issues with importing these points. I then proceeded to import subsequent field books with additional control and then topographic mapping. In the last field book some points were accidentally overwritten due to an error in the field collection. No error message was given to let me know the survey points were in use and being overwritten. Luckily I caught the error before I proceeded to the next field book.
I tried to reimport the field book that originally created the points that were overwritten. At that point C3D told me that the points being occupied in the field book did not exist. I checked the point list for the primary control field book under the "Import Events" in the Survey Tab of the Toolspace and indeed the points in question were no longer listed.
I then proceeded to reimport all the field books in order, starting with the primary control. I got through several of field books before C3D again told me the point being occupied did not exist. This despite the fact that this same point was occupied in previous field books. After trying once again I was able to get through the field books.
I can give the client cut and fill grid ticks, but they want a map, so to speak. I have an existing surface. I have a post dredging surface. I can run the volumes and create a comparison surface. Now what I need is to display the combined surface in such a way that you can easily see, this is the area where 0 - 0.5 feet was removed, this this the area where 0.5 -1.0 feet was removed, and so on and so forth.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a case with the Subassembly Composer where I have 3 varying depths. InsideLane, OutsideLane, and Shoulder. My Base shape below these 3 shapes will not setup properly. I understand why, it's because the varying depths will create a potential step up or down situation depending on the depth of the top 3 shapes. This prevents the definition of the Base Shape.
For the sake of quantities I'd like to create a Base Shape. I could create Base1 Base2 Base3 (one below Inside Lane, Outside Lane, and Shoulder). I would prefer not to for clarity purposes.
How could one approach this? I'm thinking that I need some conditional components to clean this up. I'm not a pro writing expressions. I basically need to define the links that define the varying depths between the top 3 depths. I need to create another point and link if the depths vary, and that link needs to be included within the shape definition for Base.
Wanted to know if there is a way to place pressure pipes at variable depths.
We got inspector notes which show the depths at each end of the pipes.
And I notice that under Pipe Properties, Part Properties tab, and under Geometry there is Start Cover and End Cover.
But both are greyed out.
Is it possible to use Star Cover and End Cover to design the pipes?

I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?
I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

I downloaded the rather large (190 mb) zipped file of a large ASCII file with a few extra things (readme, metadata, report)
I followed this how-to document.
And I get the error message "Cannot set the column 'Name'. The value violates the MaxLength limit of this column." And then nothing at all happens. No data imported.
Also, if I can't find the coordinates they assigned to the Ascii and I choose one I always use for this area, could that be the problem?
And I'l attach a photo of the 'preview' screen before I get before the error message.
I have a couple points that were part of an import event (data from a previous project) which I want to assign as control points for an incoming traverse, is there any way to assign those as control points? I can't seem to find a way to do that other than perhaps re-importing the specific points as control points and overwriting the existing ones.

So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.
What should I do?

I create a part by creating rectangle on the XY of 90mm centered on 0,0. I add fillets on 3mm on all four corners. I then add two circles centered on 0,0 of diameters 45 mm and 41mm. What I would like to do is extrude the area between 41 mm and 45 mm circles to 10 mm and the rest of the rectangle outside of the circle 45 mm circle to 6 mm. The center of the part from center to the 41 mm circle is void or open.
I have read two solutions that use a "share sketch" function, that I can't find by right-clicking as indicated in the write-up.
I am working with a part that needs multiple 9mm gun drilled holes to different depths. The problem I am having is not being able to create a truly custom single line hole callout. Example( DIA 9mm +.50mm -.00mm TO DEPTH 1.25in)
I understand that this isn't a common hole callout but in my situation it is what is needed. The values need to be linked to the part and not simply overridden as text. I am essentially wanting to make a style that I could apply to any hole note that would give the hole diameter a metric dimension and the depth an inch value.

Whats the best way to set it up? And what kind of addtional info should there be.
