When I import points from an external project point database (LDD) which I do quite often to import points from 2008 to Civil 3d it works fine for me, but when a co-worker tries doing it from the same exact drawing just a different computer it does not work. Whe he tries to do it, a red "X" appears telling him there is some kind of error. VERY strange and I have no clue why????

The only problem is, along with the X and Y, it only gives us the distance from OGL, not the actual Z Elevation at each point. How do we import these into C3D to create a surface? We have a topo survey for the whole site, so we have and EG surface.

I would like to create a survey topo drawing that contains points and surface information which other Design drawings that are attached to the Data Shortcut project can access but not be able to make any changes to the original points and existing surface information.
When i import points (csv) from my excel sheet into Civil 3D, i can't see the actual points on the display frame, but i can see that the points have been imported by looking at the prospector tab > Points.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am building a new template for our office and just finished building my Description Key Code Set, and Figure Prefix Database. I stopped to do a quick trial run on one of our surveying files, but when I imported the file all of the figure lines imported correctly but the points all came in the default point style and label style. I went to the Settings Tab/Points/Commands and made sure my "Disable Description Keys" was set to False. This is not my first template and I have never had this issue before.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe're moving [slowly, painfully] from LDD to Civil 2012. When importing a survey fieldbook in LDD, my method has always been to "clean up" the fieldbook during the import. Rather than search through the fieldbook text file manually, I'll let the import process find the duplicate, overwritten points, or errant linecodes, and then exclamate them or change them in the fieldbook and, if necessary, reimport the fieldbook. Figures and breaklines use the initial coordinate, for instance, so sometimes a reimport is (was) necessary.
So our survey crews "overwrite" points in the field for bad rod heights, angles, descriptions, etc... During the LDD import process that point number is flagged and I am given the option to overwrite/average/etc.... In Civil 3D I seem to be stuck with an average of the two observations, and I'm not even alerted about which point numbers come from these "multiple observations." So I've no idea without sifting through the often substantial list of point numbers which points have duplicate data connected to them.
I've combed through the import options and I just don't see what I'm looking for, which, in a phrase, is to be alerted when there are duplicate numbers in the fieldbook.
I have a .dwg file with an AT-LCC projection assigned to it. There are some .shp files connected to it.
Can I choose the projection of to-be-imported-points when I import some laserscan-files in ASCII format? So I can tell AutoCAD: these points are in MGI-AT.AUT-Central/GK projection, please convert them to my desired projection.
There is a method which takes much too long:
open a new document assign the origin-projection (here; MGI-AT.AUT-Central/GK) to the fileimport the pointsexport the points as .shp file, define a projection-system conversion to target projection (here: AT-LCC)open the file with the target projection assigned to it (here: AT-LCC)import the .shp file
Our Surveyor created the Point Styles and description keys for processing our field work. These were incorporated in our template. Yesterday he brought in field work an noticed that only a few of the symbols incorporated into the markers came in.
The blocks exist in the drawing but when you go to edit the point marker only 8 out of 152 blocks show in the window below "Use AutoCAD BLOCK symbol for marker". I tried a backup of that template from 5 months ago and got the same results. I've verified that the blocks still exist in the drawing both by listing them and exploring them in Design Center. If I try other templates the window shows all the blocks.
I have tried Audit and Recover with no improvement. Thirteen errors fixed but the blocks still don't show. Additionally I found a backup of the template from Feb., 2013 and get the same problem but the lack of blocks only just occurred.

Sometimes when i import points Civil 3d creates a Point group in the drawing with the name of the point file, sometime it does not. I prefer when it does create this point group. It always seems to create a Survey Point Group. How do i control wether or not a point group is created in the import?

Is there a way to create automatic Point Groups when importing points? Sort of like a Desc Key for layers? I know it probably is impossible but I have to ask.

I created new file, assigned any coordinate system to the model. Opened Import points windows there, created new file format which there I assigned Coordinate zone transform to the coordinate system of the text file and imported my text file. But the coordinates of points didn't changed or transformed. When I do it by Survey in Toolspace its works good. I want to know whether I did any wrong or it is problem of software.
I use AutoCADCivil 2013 64 bit in Windows 7 64 bit!
I’ve run into an issue with importing survey data using field books.
I started by importing my primary control using a field book. There were no issues with importing these points. I then proceeded to import subsequent field books with additional control and then topographic mapping. In the last field book some points were accidentally overwritten due to an error in the field collection. No error message was given to let me know the survey points were in use and being overwritten. Luckily I caught the error before I proceeded to the next field book.
I tried to reimport the field book that originally created the points that were overwritten. At that point C3D told me that the points being occupied in the field book did not exist. I checked the point list for the primary control field book under the "Import Events" in the Survey Tab of the Toolspace and indeed the points in question were no longer listed.
I then proceeded to reimport all the field books in order, starting with the primary control. I got through several of field books before C3D again told me the point being occupied did not exist. This despite the fact that this same point was occupied in previous field books. After trying once again I was able to get through the field books.
I want to take a sequence that I had in an old project and put it into a current project, but I dont want it to be one rendered file... i still want too see the fades and make changes to it...

I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?
I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

I downloaded the rather large (190 mb) zipped file of a large ASCII file with a few extra things (readme, metadata, report)
I followed this how-to document.
And I get the error message "Cannot set the column 'Name'. The value violates the MaxLength limit of this column." And then nothing at all happens. No data imported.
Also, if I can't find the coordinates they assigned to the Ascii and I choose one I always use for this area, could that be the problem?
And I'l attach a photo of the 'preview' screen before I get before the error message.
I have a couple points that were part of an import event (data from a previous project) which I want to assign as control points for an incoming traverse, is there any way to assign those as control points? I can't seem to find a way to do that other than perhaps re-importing the specific points as control points and overwriting the existing ones.

So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Smoke (same version) running on two seperate Macs. Each Mac has an external thunderbolt drive for the media storage.
I worked on my project at home on Mac #1, and assumed I could bring in my external drive and use it with Mac #2.
When I try to add my drive from home to Mac #2, it creates ManagedFolder1. Which of course doesn't have my project in it- my project is on ManagedFolder0.
I suppose this may be caused by the fact I already have a ManagedFolder0 on a different external drive for this Mac, right? So I removed that drive, assuming I could then re-add the drive from home and allow access to the 2nd ManagedFolder0 with my project.
It just shows my old projects from the other drive still, but everything is broken inside of them. This makes sense as the drive is disconnected.
When I use the import excel points function in the 2D sketch menu of Inventor 2013, nothing happens when I open the excel file. No points are drawn in the sketch... I don't even get an error message... I have tried the same thing on another computer with the exact same spreadsheet and it works 100%.

Having a D100 camera and keywords filled out in Nikon View IPTC... would importing into Lightroom show up my keywords and captions? I neglected to add that I would not be importing them from my computer HD, but from a external HD. All my past work was done on a Gateway PC. Lightroom will probably be put on a new Mac. I also have all these photos archived on CDs. Will this change things? Will my keywords and captions still show up upon import? If importing from an external HD blocks this, what can I do, what program can I add that will get my metadata across?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Flash project I'm working on that is video with corresponding bulletpoints displayed next to it. While I've gotten it to work with embed cue points in the FLV file so that at certain times in the video the Flash movie goes to certain frames to display the relevant bullet points I haven't gotten it so that it can tell what the appropriate bullet point is if someone scrubs the video past the last cue point trigger. I found a process to do it using actionscript cue points instead of navigation cue points (via this guide: [URL], but it uses an external xml file for the cue points. My problem is that I can't figure out how to get that XML file without having to redo all the cue points manually. Is there someway to make Premiere Pro (CS3) export an xml file of the markers placed in my timeline instead of embedding them into the FLV file? Alternatively if there is a way I could extract them from the FLV file, that would be acceptible too.
