I'm a bit of a Civil 3D newbie. I've got a project that involves addition of storm drain to existing storm pipes. I'd like to be able to use Civil 3D to include existing and proposed pipes in the networks, but be able to show existing pipes differently than proposed pipes on plans and profiles, i.e. screened. I can't seem to figure out a way to do this--I can effect changes to all networks, but not invididual pipes.
View 9 RepliesI am trying to get the existing and proposed grade from my surfaces to show up in the center bottom of my cross sections. I am working with the CL elevations band style and trying to set up so that major and minor increments are the surface elevations. Am I going about this wrong? I went in to the compose label tab and selected for the text to be section 1 elevation and section 2 elevation. When I am at the section view properties box / bands tab, all that shows up is my existing surface. I have created sample lines and a corridor. I have also created a surface from the corridor.

I have a profile showing proposed storm sewer, existing sanitary, rock surface, existing surface, and proposed profile. Today for some reason the proposed profile and labels, and the existing surface are not showing on the profile and I'm not sure what has changed or how to get them back.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a proposed surface in Civil3D2010 that was fine, made revisions to the proposed contours using grips or deleting/adding contours. Now when I try to add the new contour data to the surface either the program hangs up or I get contour error messages and the surface never gets re-built.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe engineers at my company digitize proposed contours in a drawing and then they want me to create a surface out of the contours....the contours usually are 2 foot contours with areas that the software tends to translate based on the contours that I selected to create the surface.....I then usually need to create a profile, which does not look accurate compared to the contours, such as low spots etc...............
My question is since the engineers at my work do not how to use the software, and I am not an engineer, making the profile look a certain way sometimes needs to be tweeked by me.... How to alter the proposed surface?I am pretty sure that feature lines cannot cross contours that I have selected to create the surface?
I have a existing surface. I want to create a proposal surface so I can know the volume between boths. This proposal surface is represent for a disposal area that can be filled up to a elevation. I have a bottom of P-surface as a feature line at EL 1608, and I want top of P-surface to EL 1613.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI created DRefs to an Alignment plus the Existing and Proposed Profiles. I ended up with 3 alignments with one profile attached to each of the second and third alignment. The second and third alignments are name as <Alignmentname> (2) and <Alignmentname> (3). I deleted them an just brought in the profiles but they each created a new alignment.
I searched the board and Google. What I found was that it's recommended to keep the profiles in the drawing in which the alignment was created. I usually do that. But I've been working at a 1:1000 scale and now the Engineer wants the profiles plotted at 1:500. I don't like changing the scale in the drawing so I thought I'd created a new drawing with that scale. It doesn't look like I can do that now.
In LDT listing curve data was as easy as selecting an alignment, clicking edit and printing out a spreadsheet with all the required info. how to do this in C3D. Inifo I need:

I made "Road" surface from Corridor Properties / Surfaces... but when I go to surface properties for "Road"...the statistics tab is blank.

I'm trying to create a proposed grade surface using the grading tools. I drew the outline boundaryof the proposed surface as a closed polyline then created a feature line from it and assigned different elevations to it. When I try to select the feature line in order to create the grading, I get "THIS FEATURE OVERLAPS ITSELF AND CANNOT BE GRADED". What could be a possible reason for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am at a crossroads with this corridor that I have to create in Civil 3D 2011, with a sub assembly that logically seems very simple...the conditions for daylight can be found in "Proposed Cross Section". In short I have 4 fill conditions and 2 cut conditions, based on height above original ground...(there are additional requirements for guardrails and retaining walls but at this point i will settle for my slope reaching original ground)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create an all new existing surface over existing ground. I have a TIN surface of the EG, and I have drawn overlay splines that describe the new surface, but how to go about creating that design surface.
It is a compound surface, open on one end and closed all around on the other, somewhat like a half of a football stadium, but with an irregular upper edge because I am needing to figure out cuts and fills to manipulate the EG into this new surface without costly major terraforming. There is about 40-50' vertical elevation between the "field" and the upper rim with a generally constant 7-10 deg. slope all around. I'm just at a loss to figure out how to approach this project, and am quite new to Civil 3D.

I've been able to publish and then import valves, flange adaptors etc. with no problem, but if I create a flanged (metric) pipe using the Content Catalog Editor and then draw the pipe in C3D it shows blank ends, no flanges. I've split the pipe in the drawing to see if that forces flanges to appear, but nothing.
Do I need to create the flanges seperately and then add them to the end of pipes?

I am modelling a sewer pipe network in SSA. At some stages we use varies pipe materials with different wall thicknesses. So I want to know how can I assign inner diameter of pipes in SSA so I just deduct wall thickness from pipe diameter and then assign it to the pipe. Or is there any possibility to make a pipe list with specific properties like part builder in civil3d?

We have an engineer who is taking an existing surface and wants to show a proposed road 2" higher than existing.
I told him to simply adjust his assembly for his corridor to account for the 2" difference, but the County agency needs to see a profile.
My questions:
1) Is there a way to easily copy a profile made from a surface and "convert" it to a proposed profile? If we copy and explode, it turns into hundreds (thousands?) of tiny pline segments and it would be a mess to convert all those to a profile 1 by 1. If we make the corridor, and choose "profile from corridor", we do not have an option that could be used to represent the centerline.
2) Other than loss of dynamic updating), would it make sense to adjust the assembly so the top surface would be accurate, then copy the profile, explode the copy to a block and simply shift that (as essentially basic linework)?
What the best way to draw multiple parallel pipes that cross a corridor. In my example I have a track with 4 pipes crossing the track corridor on slightly different alignments (from perpendicular to skewed). I have drawn the pipes on as individual pipes under the same network.
However I cannot get them all to display on the profile. I have tried "Draw Parts in Profile" but it seems to bring up only 1 pipe. managing multiple pipes.
I have two pipe networks and two profile views, one for storm and another for sanitary. I would like to show the crossing pipes on each of the profile views. When I select the profile view, add a pipe and change the style to crossing the style is change to crossing on the other profile view (ex. on sanitary profile view I set storm pipe 3 to crossing style, on the storm profile pipe 3 changes to crossing style and does not display). Isn't there a way to display the styles for pipes different in each profile view?

I have a profile with a couple of pipe networks in it. One of the pipes shown extends beyond the edge of the profile at some crazy angle. look at the picture for a better explanation.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow to do profiles in Civil3D and I have created a profile from the surface utilizing a miscellaneous alignment. I have also taken one 12"RCP and made it part of a network along with the catch basin and manhole at its start and end. When I click "draw parts in profile" it places both structures and the pipe, but in reality only a portion of the pipe crosses the alignment. I'd like to only display portions of pipes that cross the alignment at a fixed width form that alignment, say 2' to each side of it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI received some dwg files to show existing utilities from a local municipality. I thought the files would come as shp files, but they are dwg files. The drawings/dwg files show the layout of pipes, but the pipes are polylines. The polylines have data attached to them. The properties show material, size, length, slope, etc. I am trying to label the pipes/polylines and I can't figure out how to get the information from the polylines.

The file I modified is: AeccPartParamCfg.xml
I have migrated this file to 2011, 2012, 2013 without any issue. In 2014, I am getting a run time error for one of the optional properties and therefore that option is no longer working.
Created optional properties and run into problems in 2014? Works fine in all my previous releases of Civil 3D using the same parameter file.
Attached is the Parameter file and error at start up.
