View 4 RepliesTrying to figure out how to define the folder I want my drawing to search in to find a specific set of point styles we have set-up. As it is set up right now, I am not sure where the program is looking to find the standard set of point styles it is showing, but its just showing basic civil point (ie. CB's, IP's, BM's, etc.). I have tried a few things to make it automatically grab the point styles I have in a set-up folder but is won;t display them.
The reason I need this, is that I want to set it up so that when I import points from my survey file, I want them to automatically insert into my drawing as the correct block (or point style), based on the survey code used.
I have downloaded ArcGrid (ADF) files from the USGS and am trying to define a TIN surface in Civil 3D with those files. I have done this in the past without difficulty but now I get a fatal error and the system crashes in the middle of the process. The ADF files are large, approximately 465 meg, and cover an entire USGS quad area. Is there any tricks or sollutions that would allow me to use this data source to create surfaces without my system crashing?
The system I am using is a Dell Intel Xeon CPU, W365@3.20GHz with 24 GB RAM, 64 Bit OS.
Is there a way to define object data to a polygon or a poly line in C3d? I imported a shape file and saw that in the properties dialog box the object data of the polygons is displayed. I would like to define create new polygons and define certain atrributes to it before exporting it as a shape file. This would would eliminate the need to use a GIS program to define the attributes of the polygons.
Im using PCSWMM and would like to define certain atributes to polygons and polylines in C3D before i import it in to PCSWMM.
I made a bunch of cross sections of an EG surface and want to define an elevation label at each significant grade break. I see an option to weed by distance but no option that would allow me to place a label at where the slope changes by more than a certain percent.
I found this old thread from three years ago and the best solution to come out of it was deleting individual labels.

I am attempting to bring a DEM into Civil 3D using the "create surface from DEM" function. I am successful with this, but the units for the DEM appear to be correct for X-Y and incorrect for elevation. The original DEM has metric X-Y coordinates and English elevations. I would like all to be in English units in the Civil 3D file.
The elevation values and X-Y values have been reduced by a factor of 1/3.208 as I have set the drawing units to English. This is correct for the X-Y, but incorrect for the elevation as the original DEM has metric X-Y coordinates and English elevations.

I am trying to create an alignment from existing polyline that I had recieved from another companies drawing. It was alignment in their drawing but only comes through as linework. That's not the problem. The problem is that when I try and create a new alignment out of the existing polyline, the units are way off. the existing drawing had ticks every 100 feet obviously, but after I create my alignment, I get like 400-500 feet in before the existing one gets 100. Trying to find a scale issue, but not seeing one.
I'm playing with "getting started" cvs & xml data..
I load files and see the data but not the units
- In addition I can't associate items to my corridor codes (code set styles)
- also I can't use the search filter on QTO manager
Civil 3D (2013) how much you have to improve....
I have a drawing that was given to me by an architect with a scale 1:250 (0.004 in viewport). The architect drew everything in millimeters and it's a Site Plan, why ? I do not know. The units in the drawing are decimal-millimeters.
The page set-up for layout 1 was for 24x36 drawing size (typ.)I know need to make a layout 2 for a sheet size 11x17 but I can not get my viewport to scale correctly. So, if a 24x36 sheet size had a VP with scale 0.004 (1:250) then what is the scale for a sheet size 11x17 ?
I have a contour label style that is using metric units instead of imperial. Where in the style or defaults is this controlled? Also, is there a way to tell what the units are from the contents? <[Surface Elevation(Um|P3|RN|Sn|OF|AP|GC|UN)]>
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an old dwg that I used to add new data to. I also inserted a block produced by Revit to get a building elevation. I am not sure when or how it happend, but my drawing scale units are stuck on arch. I am talking about the bottom right hand corner of the screen on the status bar where there is the spot to set drawing scale. When I open by clikcing the arrow all the scales are in architectural units. I can add a custom scale of 1"=100', but it does not otherwise appear in the list. I wasn't going to wrry about it, but when I layout a plan/pro series they do not seem to be scaling correctly (and I cannot find a place to specify what scale I want the views to be at). UNITS, -DWGUNITS & -AECDWGUNITS don't fix it, they are all set to decimal, etc. Using the seetings tab to change the drawing settings, everything is set to feet, there is no place to specify arch units, the 100 scale drawing is shown as a custom scale.
This is C3D release 2012, on a 64bit Win7 Pro machine, everything is up to date.
Where I can change the units for the drawing scale?

I'm using the exporttoautocad command to convert a 3D drawing with a proposed surface (a TIN object) into a drawing with just contours (polylines with elevations). My original drawing is in feet and has a NAD83 state plane coordinate system.
Everything seems great in the exported dwg, except it is converting the elevation units from feet to inches!? A contour that was originally at an elevation of 7.0 feet, ends up at 7 inches in the exported drawing. Spatial coordinates are preserved.
how the scales and printing works.
first i am working in meters .meters is choosen under the drawing settings tab .i am trying to test print at 1:1 a rectangle with 0.2 meters side that normaly will fit in a A4 sheet since the A4 is 0.21x0.297 METERS .
in the print dialogue i set the 1"mm" = 0.001 "units". the result is an image multiplied by 1000...arent the " units " METERS? METERS is what i use in the drawing so why i get a biger image?
if i set 1"mm"= 1 "unit" and NOT 0.001 i get correct 1:1 print .
what i am missing? c3d wants me to give 1mm=1meter?
My drawing is set to state plane and feet. when I import GE the elevations are different that those reported on the GE screen. For example at a given location GE reports 538 but the c3d surface report 164 a factor of 3.28. sounds like a meter thing going on. is this normal?

I created an alignment from an existing line and am having an issue with the stationing. The length of the original line is about 14,666 ft but when I convert it to an alignment it is 1,222 (1/12 of original).

with this I changed placement of coordinates from being outside of a viewport to inside.
However, I still do like this unnecessary zeros in the end of numbers.
Do you know how to get rid of them in a code?
In Civil 3D 2013, when I execute the _area command, i get results in square feet as opposed to acres. Under the ambient settings, the area unit is set to acre. how to get C3D to display my area in acres? I just want it to list the area, not label it.
Also, is there a way to get it to display the area in BOTH acres and square feet?
how to turn off the units in the output table for the Incremental Station Elevation Difference Report of a profile?
It currently adds "m" to the end of my data which makes it difficult to get working in excel (the "m" makes it a text cell and doesn't allow calculation, unless you can ignore letters in excel).
I have tried to bring in the 3d block for a fire hydrant, exploded it and combined as 1 solid, added connection point. When using the Civil 3D 2013 "publishpartcontent" command it ask me to save the .content file but when creating the png it outputs an error in the command line. When I go to bring in the content in the catalog edditor I recieve an error saying .content file units do not match catalog. I have tried bring the part into both metric and imperial catalogs and recieve the same error. I also tried creating just a cylinder soli in a new draiwing and publishing the content file, I still recieve the error when it tries to create the .png but when I load it into the catalog it works. Is there any way to set the units of the solid within civil 3d before creating the .content file.

In my profile view I have existing and proposed levels in m.
The level difference is also in m but I'd like it to be scaled to show mm, as this is quicker to read on site.
Is there some way to edit the equation and multiply by 1000?
I use all my knowledge of technical drawing from school many years ago to produce drawings in AutoCAD 2002, but I can't remember how you would define the dimensions of an ellipse in a drawing so that someone could produce it from the plotted output.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have successfully opened a STEP file from our Engineering group and saved it away as an Inventor Assembly. I would like to define Materials and/or Surface finishes for all parts. Why wouldn't the Surfaces and Materials synchronize between the Styudio's Surface Creator and the BOM Materials Control in the Assembly area?
I have found the way to define a new Surface in the "Inventor Studio" Interface and saved it with a unique name. Now, I would like to assign that Surface as a Material to the parts in the assembly ... and of course I would like to define numerous other surfaces and materials for assignment to all the parts throughout the assembly. Finally, I would like these surfaces / materials to follow the model into Showcase for presentation purposes.
I'm an Inventor 2011 user and I'm writing a Ilogic script to update an assembly. For this I want to use a variable in a name.
For example d1 till d10 will be given the value 25.
Is it possible to define "d" combined with a variable "n" . The script should be something like this:
n=1
for n<11
dn=25
n=n+1
end
So I have this script I used to run in AutoCAD 2011 which involved mirroring a group of many layers and then moving the "last" object created. In 2011, when I moved "last", it considered everything I mirrored to be "last." In 2012, it is taking strinctly the last object I created, not the group of layers that I mirrored, to be "last." Is there an internal variable I can change so that "last" can mean everything I just mirrored again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I cannot get the ATTDEF Dialoge box to stop appearing and get the command line prompts. I have all the system variables set correctly -
FILEDIA = 0
ATTDIA = 0
CMDDIA = 0
The ATTDIA should surpress the diaolog box and give me prompts but it does not.
Using Map 2008
When I click Setup->Define Global Coordinate System...
I recieve the following message:
Cannot open coordinate system dictionaries for write.
I attempt to define the CS in Map 2009 and am able to supply all required information.
When I click OK I recieve the following message:
Cannot add coordinate system to dictionary.
Is this information still stored at:

I am working on a little lisp routine to draw splines, but can't get it working. The basic idea is that i first select a set of points that i can feed to my spline command.
(defun c:test2 () (setq pt (getpoint "
define point:")) (setq ptlist nil) (while (not (equal pt nil)) (setq ptlist (cons pt ptlist)) (setq pt (getpoint "
define point:")) ) )
Now i need to draw a spline based on these points. My plan whas to simply use the acad command itself. But this option didn't work.
(command "spline" ptlist "")
Then i tried using the vla-addspline command. But i can't even get this one working .
I have a problem with polar tracking.Previously it was possible to hover over a point, then define the tracking direction and then specifying the distance. In 2013, the polar and object snap tracking path go away / ends when typing the desired tracking distance. Then the tracking direction has to be defined afterwords, which is new to me.That means that its not possible to define multiple distances continuously AFTER defining the tracking direction.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to define a grid based on polar coordinates.
Can be produced using the following MATLAB
n=1:50000;r=sqrt(n);t=360/((sqrt(5)+1)/2)+1)*pi/180*n;plot(r.*cos(t),r.*sin(t),'o')
I need to insert points based on the polar coordinates defined by the equations. I knew a little bit of LISP 10 Years ago, now it's a total blank. I've been trying to write a script to make this work but after 5 days I'm still without sucess.
Im trying to create a list of text strings to select from defining material thickness and then plug that selection into a global form custom iproperty called "MaterialDescription".. Also, is it possible to access and pre-enter field text edit items in iLogic?
