I'm trying to determine a way of color banding my point files so that different ranges of elevations are visually represented by different colors. See example below that I believe was done with a different software program.

Using the TIN volume surface, I've already established the total volume of earthworks (cut). However, as I have pointed out earlier, the data is required in terms of elevation bands of 1.5m.
I have a surface volume analysis with 2D banding..Regardeless of it is a +- surface and it is not at the right height location, I want to see it in 3D. uffffff, 30 seconds waiting to acad ....
I have a good pc (wirth a superb nvidia) (I have no problems with any other software or 3D actions)
First , I have to wait almost 30 seconds before have the 3D mouse movements avalaible.
Second, every mouse move ( to change the point or view, etc ) means 3 seconds of delay.
The model is little , 400 x 600 meters. (It is an example from mastering c3d) .
I am using Civil 3d 2012 and an trying to apply elevation banding (one color) to a surface that is completely flat. Everything seems to be in order but nothing shows up. If I add another point file to it that has a variety of elevations then the elevation bands show up, if i remove it it disappears again. I can view the boundary and get elevation readings when I mouse over the surface.
View 6 Replies View RelatedUsing CS6, I created a sky gradient on a new layer, then imported some photos to other layers for a composite. Then I noticed horizontal banding of varying widths in the sky area of the gradient. When I use the Move Tool to move the gradient layer around, the bands move along in a fixed position, so it's not my monitor. When I Option-click on the gradient layer eyeball icon to make just that layer visible, there is no banding on the screen, just a smooth gradient as it should be.
I have never noticed this happening before. What causes it and what can I do about it?
I have a problem with color banding in Photoshop CS6 while zoomed out, even though I am working in 16 bit. Here is a crop of the same area of a .psd while open in Photoshop CS6 (left) and in Illustrator CS5 (right).
The banding is quite apparent in PS while not present in Illustrator. At 100% zoom there is little banding in PS, and converting to 8 bit makes it look markedly worse. However at 25% zoom (which these crops were taken at) converting to 8 bit makes no visible difference, making me think that Photoshop's zoom is working at 8 bit for some reason.
Since the image looks fine in Illustrator I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with my display, or graphics card/driver. I've tried changing the color profile (currently set to Adobe RGB) in Photoshop without effect. I've also tried changing the 'Graphics Processor' level in Photoshop, including disabling it entirely, as well as reducing the cache level to '1' without effect either. I'm not quite sure why Illustrator is able to handle the image so nicely at all zoom levels while Photoshop introduces all this banding.
Recently, I updated my LR3 to LR4.3 and my camera from Olympus EP2 to OMD. So, I am not sure if any of these factors play a role but, I started having severe banding on photos taken in vivid sunny day with a blue sky. I am not an advanced LR user and, my process of developing photos in LR has always been pretty simple. First, I export RAW format pictures from a card to a hard drive. Then, I do some adjustments and make two jpeg copies from each RAW file.
One copy I in Export dialog box File Settings as a JPEG, Color Space sRGB, 100% quality and another copy I export for web so, I limit to some minimum size without setting any quality reductions.
Again, in the Export dialog box -> File Setting -> check (checkbox) Limit File Size to 300KB to 1MB. In this sample case, file was farely large so, LR did not allow me to save this file in less than 950KB. URL....
I have created existing and proposed surfaces in Civil 3D 2008 and I'm trying to create a volume surface to produce a cut & fill map. The problem I'm running into is everything I try to follow mentions choosing Elevation Banding (2D) as the style. The only style I have to choose from is Standard. Does the Elevation Banding (2D) style normally come with the program? Or is this something you have to create?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I created a TIN Volume Surface. The volume surface seems to have a "resolution" issue if you will when displaying using elevation banding. In the attached screenshot note how the edges of the surface are "squared" or pixelated. Also, the blue lines are "hide" boundaries, and they have the same effect. I've created volume surfaces before with no issues until now.
The volume surface compares 2 surfaces that were created from nothing but contours. Some of the contours can be seen in the attached image.
I've tried REDRAW and REGEN, the image looks the same in model space and paper space, I've tried closing AutoCAD and reopening the file. I deleted the volume surface and then created a new one... I'm sure there's just a setting somewhere that I'm missing.
For comparison, also attached is a screenshot a "normal" volume surface that I created before. This one has no "hide" boundaries, but the edges of the surface aren't "squared."
I'm on an old laptop, PS 5.5. I have a properly exposed iso 1800 D600 jpgcaptured in adobe rgb color space.I use camera raw to open this picture in photopro space and 16 bits to avoid banding and yet if I lift the curve a tiny bit or any other brightening trickimmediately there is banding. What?

I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?
Gradient and color banding are very apparent and exaggerated until I zoom in to 66.6%. It even hangs for a split second as if it is solving a new render at a higher quality. This is getting frustrating as I've found myself manually trying to clean up issues that actually aren't there when I zoom in close enough. These issues are expecially obvious when working with skin using several degrunge techniques and dodge and burn on a softlight layer. It does not seem to matter what display I use.
If I commit all adjustments to a new layer the problem goes away. I'm working on a Eurocom Panther 3 running Windows 7 64 Ultimate. I have a hex core Intel processor and 2 Nvidia 580m in SLI, though I am aware that is not used in Photoshop.
I've encountered a problem when using layers to add a watermark. After adding the watermark I'm finding the photograph becomes distorted.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have applied a 3D>Extrude and Bevel on my text. Now problem is that when doing it, my border(part that is extruded) causes a color banding, since it rasterizes the gradients. See my image below.
How do I take away those nasty lines?
I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.
What should I do?
I am working on a large park project. I have a proposed and existing surface. I have created a volume surface to show elevation banding with cut and fill ranges. I need to create a drawing for someone who doesn't have civil 3d showing all the "cut" areas. They really want a boundary of hatch. What is the best way to do this after I change my analysis to -30 feet cut to 0 feet cut.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Lightroom 4..i've been importing my RAW images from my external harddrive. Some show up in the catalog as ruined with a blank white section and color bands. I've checked the actual image on the external hard drive and it is fine. I've deleted the ruined files from the LR catalog, then re-imported those problem ones... still come in as white with banding. I've even tried deleting them from the catalog, then from the hard drive... then back onto the HD from the camera, then back into lightroom. Some look ok until I look at then in loupe view and the same problem happens. Mean while the images on the HD and on the camera's CF card are fine.

I would like to create a best-fit arc from non-horizontal points.
I have tried to do a UCS from 3 of the points that will form the arc but everytime the best-fit arc is placed on the global grid horizontally.
How can I draw points in Civil 3d using GPS coordinates?
Is it any way to input the coordinates manually if i have only a few key points, and then superimpose my topography or other objects? or should I insert a data file to get the points first? How can I upload the data file from my GPS tool, and how to figure out in which format to insert it?
I would like to draw with using the GPS coordinates itself, NOT the northing and easting( X,Y,) is it possible?
I am a surveyor in a multi-disciplined office. There has been talk of working in 3d. I have had lots of issues with 3d line work on general projects
For example, when you bring all the points in at elevation, and draw lines between them, we have issues with line patterns and querying distances. How are others handling this, or is there a setting to turn off the z?
I am a surveyor who wants/needs to perform survey adjustments on our data and from what I can tell this will require us to use FBK files generated from our TDS RAW files. Easy enough, but I am running into problems during import because when our field crews shoot a bad point or need to fix a point code they will overwrite the "bad" point with the "fixed" one.
when I go to import the points via FBK apparently the system doesn't realize these points were overwritten and I get duplicate point errors. This in itself isn't that big a deal except that I am only given the option to ignore the duplicate point (no overwrite, renumber or anything) which leaves me with a bunch of bad points, bad codes, etc. Sifting through the fbk to find the problems has proven dificult and time consuming.
Is there any way around this problem? we can bring our RAW files into other software (Carlson Survey, Trimble Business Center specifically) and everything works fine but we would rather not use extra software just to do survey adjustments, which C3D seems apparently capable of.
I'm having troubles using the create points on grid command. When I run the command, I keep getting asked to type in the point description for each point. I have about 5000 points to create.
Is there a way to set a description for all the points, so I don't have to do this manually?
Is there any method in Civil 3D change the points number?
