In Civil 3D 2010, how does one output the volume of earthworks in terms of elevation bands of for example 1.5m?
Using the TIN volume surface, I've already established the total volume of earthworks (cut). However, as I have pointed out earlier, the data is required in terms of elevation bands of 1.5m.
I have a surface that has Elevation Banding but I also have an air photo in the drawing. Can you apply transparency to elevation banding so that the air photo shows up.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Civil 3d 2012 and an trying to apply elevation banding (one color) to a surface that is completely flat. Everything seems to be in order but nothing shows up. If I add another point file to it that has a variety of elevations then the elevation bands show up, if i remove it it disappears again. I can view the boundary and get elevation readings when I mouse over the surface.

The problem I'm running into is everything I try to follow mentions choosing Elevation Banding (2D) as the style. The only style I have to choose from is Standard. Does the Elevation Banding (2D) style normally come with the program? Or is this something you have to create?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I created a TIN Volume Surface. The volume surface seems to have a "resolution" issue if you will when displaying using elevation banding. In the attached screenshot note how the edges of the surface are "squared" or pixelated. Also, the blue lines are "hide" boundaries, and they have the same effect. I've created volume surfaces before with no issues until now.
The volume surface compares 2 surfaces that were created from nothing but contours. Some of the contours can be seen in the attached image.
I've tried REDRAW and REGEN, the image looks the same in model space and paper space, I've tried closing AutoCAD and reopening the file. I deleted the volume surface and then created a new one... I'm sure there's just a setting somewhere that I'm missing.
For comparison, also attached is a screenshot a "normal" volume surface that I created before. This one has no "hide" boundaries, but the edges of the surface aren't "squared."
Is there a way to add a column that would show for each elevation range the percentage of the total area?

I need to create a drawing for someone who doesn't have civil 3d showing all the "cut" areas. They really want a boundary of hatch. What is the best way to do this after I change my analysis to -30 feet cut to 0 feet cut.

I want to generate a report by sample line station that gives me the cut/fill quantities between my assembly(s) sub-base links and the existing ground. I have section sheets cut with sample lines and the EG surface DREF'd. Am I correct in assuming that you need to create the sub-base surface, (for every corridor, I have 18), to be able to get the cut/fill volumes? The corridor is Xref'd into the section cut sheets, so no hope of generating a surface in the cut sheets from the corridor. Can you have the EG surface defined in the Edit Material List and the sub-base as a corridor shape and get the cut/fill volumes? I have tried and I get zeros in the earthworks report.
I am trying to create an elevation label that will give me the spot elevation followed by the letters "TC" and then on the line below subtract 4 inches from the elevation followed by the letters "BC". It's easy enogh to add the letters but the simple equation of elevation - 4 inches eludes me.

A few weeks ago I did not have this problem but once my computer was switched to the company's global server and c3d was reinstalled the problem appeared. Furthermore (post switchover), when a colleage of mine prepared a simple test drawing with just a line and a point, he was able to snap to that line without the point changing elevation. When he sent that drawing to me and I tried snapping the point to the object, the same problem occured with the point taking the elevation of the line object. I suspect it is a system variable issue
i have some existing drainage pipe and structures in a base plan that i need to change the invert (which is the easy part) and the top elevation to the existing top elevation that does not meet the minimum presect in civil 3d 2012 is there a way to change these min. to match my exisitng elevation for example i have a catch basin invert is 15.45 top is 17.56 with a 18" rcp the cover will be less than 12" and i need to change this.

I have a good pc (wirth a superb nvidia) (I have no problems with any other software or 3D actions)
First , I have to wait almost 30 seconds before have the 3D mouse movements avalaible.
Second, every mouse move ( to change the point or view, etc ) means 3 seconds of delay.
The model is little , 400 x 600 meters. (It is an example from mastering c3d) .
This might be simple, but what is the best way to hatch a part of a surface at say RL4.00 only so that any part of the surface below RL4.00 is hatched and the rest of the surface is not.

For example, I'd like to be able to pick on the node of a feature line or 3D polyline (or any object really) and have a label placed that displays the elevation of the object at the point where it was picked. This could appear similar to the surface spot elevation label, but instead of getting it's elevation from a surface, it would come from the object where picked.
Alternatively, any way to create a label style, perhaps using the Note label, to display something like this? I don't even care if it is dynamic or not, static would be fine. However, I do need it to scale innovatively . Tool Pac has a feature that does this, but the label is just a polyline and text that is not annotative.
I turned the visibility of Elevation & Offset label off. How do I get it back. Not all just one spot.

I have a surface profile 1 and a corresponding water level profile 1 of a flood plain. Now I get an updated surface profile 2 and the engineer ask me to ajust the water level according to the difference of surface level 1 and 2.
How can I add a irregular distance (water depth) to surface profile 1?
I conducted 2 surveys on different days and somehow the second survey was off by exactly 0.9 (don't ask because I do not know). With the temperatures being -10C with a very high windchill. I said I would worry about it after the fact once I put it into CAD.
So I am on to Civil3D 2014. I imported the 2 .FBK files and was wondering how to do an elevation drop of 0.900m for just the one survey quickly.
I'm getting a zero elevation for the surface I create when I compare surfaces to get volumes. What am I missing?

I want to make layouts/viewports that are clipped to different elevations. For example I have a surface with 5' contours. I want to create multiple viewports on a sheet showing what each contour looks like at its elevation.

When working in a drawing with a surface referenced there is usually a flag attached to the cursor that reveals the surface and the elevation of the spot the cursor is hovering over; mine has disappeared.

It labels the surface (PAD) then automatically subtracts a set distance for another elevation (GFE) and adds a set distance for another elevation (FFE). After doing some research, it looks like it was created with an expression?
I have two questions:
First, where to go to get a better understadning of this? I'm not familiar with expressions.
Second, where can I find the expression in drawing to make an edit to the set distances. I can remove the GFE/FFE as they are separate components in the label style, but I don't see where to modify the distance it adds or subtracts.
I have created a surface, when I hover over a contour on it I used to get name,style, layer, elevation. Now I get them all except elevation, I didn't change anything (not on purpose at least) in my drawings.

All of the other analysis settings for direction, slope, and slope arrows allow me to input the nuber of ranges I want, but I need the elevation analysis.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am importing a Gis (2007) shp file into C3D 2013 (Attaching Query and everything else) and everythings seems to be working. However, I get an elevation of 3 for all contours (Even before the Query a 3 feet elevation is depicted in the properties windows).
The only reason behind this, that I could think of, is that C3D is not reading after the 3.***** in the dbf file.
