I want to import a shapefile into acadmap; this file has contourlines, and in the attribute tables there also is the Attribute for the elevation of the repective line, noted as integer number
after import all lines are on elevation 0
how can I filter all those with same elevation attribute, change them to an AutoCAd object (polyline) and have them moved up to the respective elevation which can be read out from the attribute table?
I would like the contour line colored to reflect the elevation it is depticting! I have successfully used surface properties - elevations - to create ranges, and to FILL color in between contours, but is there a workflow to color the contours themselves?
I also noticed, within the same dialogue box in surface properties, a contour pull down - but it doesn't have near the control to set elevation ranges, nor does actually effect the contour color.
I think that our file has been corrupted. We tried to adjust the elevation of a 6-inch sewer pipe in the profile and then the display of the pipe went up to a 12-inch, even though the pipe properties still show it as a 6. All the other pipe sizes seem to be working, though we did have a similar problem with 4-inch pipe the day before and fixed it with an audit. Audit does not fix this problem. It seems to apply to all six inch pipes.
The file was created in Civil 3D 2007. We are now using C3D 2012 with SP1. My machine is 64-bit but the other person working in the file has 32-bit.
I have attached the file and the pipe in question is in the sewer network and is named SP B 11.
Is there any hope for this file? Of course this is right as we are trying to meet a deadline.
PS I tried to add the file but was size restricted, then I trimmed the file down to under 1.5 MB and was still size restricted.
I know that I can add coordinates for such elevation using text component editor but I have to add the letter "N" for North or "E" for East to identify the location of the elevation (North/East/South/West). But, is there a way to make a label style that reads up the location of an elevation automatically?
I've attached pictures below for this issue.

I have a client that just started using C3D 2010. When I sent him a topographic survey with contour lines (I am also using C3D 2010) he called me and asked if there was a way to select an individual contour line and have it display the elevation in the 'properties' dialog box. I have not been able to find an answer for him.
We recently received a LiDAR data in the form of an .asc file. Brought it fine into Civil 3d.
However, the level data is in mm so levels are showing as 98450 instead of 98.45. The level ranges from 98450 to 166260.
When I create a surface and set the style to show contours, it only displays contour lines below 100,000. Is this a limit in Civil 3D or am I missing some setting somewhere? I'm using the UKIE template btw.
I’m having some issues with my CAD. Every now and then, my contour lines disappear and I can’t get them to reappear. My surface border and triangles will appear but not the contours. Sometimes if I change surface styles they will appear but other times they are gone forever.

I am having problems viewing my contour lines after I create a surface. I create the surface using points. The contour lines will show up when I create the surface. After I close the program or the drawing, I am not able to see the contour lines again. The contour lines are on in the surface style. How can I see the contour lines without creating the surface again?
I just upgraded to Civil3D 2014 and Windows 8. When I create a TIN surface using a DEM file no contour lines are displayed. Points are processed and triangles are created and can be displayed but no contour lines. Contour line layers are set to display in the style file.
I have drawing giving to us for a senior design project. I'm trying to create a surface to so that I can analyze cut/fill. Not sure if what i'm doing is right or wrong, I've never used civil 3d. But i'm getting break-line errors whenever i'm trying to create the surface from the contour lines.
Heres a link i took of what i'm doing on youtube [URL]........
When I plot my dwg my contour lines disappear. Looks good in model and layout but when I plot (usually to pdf) the contour lines do not show. Labels for contours are there. I attached samples.
I have this contour lines from dwg file (see attached) and I am trying to make a surface out of it. Initially i thought it is already a surface for C3D but i cant seem to follow tutorials. While browsing for solutions from the Internet, it seems it is not even a contour file that can be added in C3D. what is this file and how i can convert it into a surface in C3D?
I am trying to add contour lines to a surface at very specific elevations (rain event elevations). I can add all the intervals I want but can't seem to figure out how to add a contour at a certain elevation.
As far as I know there is no way to add or remove vertices on contour label lines. Is this correct?
If so it's another one for my wish list. Neil Wilson (a.k.a. neilw) Infrastructure Suite/C3D 2013, LDT 2004, Power Civil v8i SS1 WIN 7 64 PRO HP Pavillion h8xt, i7 2600, 12 GB RADEON 6450, 1 GB [URL]....
I would like to add elevation values of start and end of feature line segments within a table. I can set up start and end co-ords but can't seem to find where I can add the levels?
I can add lables to the plan with levels but really would like to have a table as well as some of the segments are too small to lable on the layout.
This isnt so much of a problem as an annoyance. When I try to make poly lines from connected single lines my procedure is as follows...
pedit, right click, multiple, select lines/objects, enter, yes, join x 3, esc
My annoyance is if i hit join once it will not make the lines into polylines, if i hit join 3 times or so and then esc it will.
It just doesnt seem that is right and I think i might be missing something. I have been doing pedit this way for a long time adn its probably finally time to figure this one out.
Is there a setting I can change so if I am drawing an object (line, polyline, etc.) if I am snapping to a contour line, the objects will NOT take on the elevation of the contour line?
I am trying to create an elevation label that will give me the spot elevation followed by the letters "TC" and then on the line below subtract 4 inches from the elevation followed by the letters "BC". It's easy enogh to add the letters but the simple equation of elevation - 4 inches eludes me.
When I snap a point to an object, the point takes on the elevation of the object. I would rather the point's elevation stay as is.

A few weeks ago I did not have this problem but once my computer was switched to the company's global server and c3d was reinstalled the problem appeared. Furthermore (post switchover), when a colleage of mine prepared a simple test drawing with just a line and a point, he was able to snap to that line without the point changing elevation. When he sent that drawing to me and I tried snapping the point to the object, the same problem occured with the point taking the elevation of the line object. I suspect it is a system variable issue
i have some existing drainage pipe and structures in a base plan that i need to change the invert (which is the easy part) and the top elevation to the existing top elevation that does not meet the minimum presect in civil 3d 2012 is there a way to change these min. to match my exisitng elevation for example i have a catch basin invert is 15.45 top is 17.56 with a 18" rcp the cover will be less than 12" and i need to change this.
This is a closed polyline, how can I delete the edge? Is there some sub object selection mode for polylines?
sub_objects.jpg
This was the initial situation or problem, two control points lying on eachother, instead of dragging the edge and removing the extra polyline, is there a way to collapse or weld the overlapping elements?
We have shape file that I imported to MAP 3D using map import, I would like to get the contour lines in 3D and then open them in AutoCAD general and see them in 3D (They must have a z value). How can I do that.
I am trying to build a 3d model and I am requirng to draw 2d sketches in the side view e.g right but all the happens is that the polylines do not go at the angle I need them at they jsut go parallel to the bottom. Also how do i create like a plane which I can draw a flat sketch on which i can set an offset from my first sketch?
I've been trying the new 2.8 version of Gimp and find I don't like it. Is there a way to disable some of the new features. For example I don't like the use of group layers. I've gotten used to just seeing all of my layers in a single list and being able to move each one independantly if necessary. Is there a way to disable this feature? Second, I really don't like the need to "export" just because I need to change the file type. I'd rather just save in the file name I need it to be in as it has been done in past versions, this ads extra steps for simply saving a file. Can this also be a disabled feature so that I only have to click save and tell gimp what file to save it as? Third I don't like that the text box shows the font, size etc when on the workspace. It gets in the way when I'm trying to adjust the location of the text. I rather it just have the box and control the font size, color etc from the tool box. Is this a feature that can be disabled as well? In otherwords is it at all possible to revert those features to what it was in 2.6 as far as UI. If not I think I'll have to reinstall 2.6 until I have no choice but to update it and just live with these features despite the fact that they actually make what I do problematic.
