May 22, 2013I am having issues with drawings from a consultant. They are sending us DGN files and they do not seem to want to import in the latest AutoCAD Architecture 2013 I have deployed throughout the offce. However, these same drawings have no problem in importing to AutoCAD Architecture 2011. In 2013, I get no activity once I select the file to import. If I click on the screen once, the program dims and the program says it is not responding. But I have no problem with 2011.

ACA2013 was released and I have had it on the desk for some time and finally I got the nerve to load the upgrade. This I did in accordance with the instructions. The upgrade went well.
Additional problems with my working files involved, the file will lose data while working in the file, the program will do strange things to the file like I would lose data while in layout tab within a viewport and the data would still be present in the model tab. I have lost printer setup files only to reopen the drawing and find these have returned.I have lost layout tabs completely. I would reload another menu and they would return. I was speaking to another person comparing Autocads and his had the layout tabs and mine did not.I have zoom scaling problems within the layout viewport. I use to be able to zoom, scale, 1/20xp for 1:20 scale and it would not recognise the command.I was informed via Autodesk to load the service pack Autocad_2013_sp1.14_64, this would not work then I was informed to load the service pack Autocad Architecture _2013_sp1_64 which it did successfully. Still had problems with ACA2013. have situations where the shell command will not work ie punch a hole within the object selected.I have changed from the working model tab to layout tab and back to model tab only to have the view change for no reason ie it will go into (+)(custom view)(wire frame) without selecting it.I have lost data, (part of the actual drawing) within my working drawing simply by using the boeleon subtract command.I have situation when you use the push pull command and nothing happens and then you reopen ACA afresh and try it again and this time it will work.I have email Autodesk in the US and it got alll TO HARD for them and they have abandoned me.
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Import ASCII Point Coordinates (from Comma Delimited File) Into File
Oct 17, 2011I'm relatively new to AutCAD map 3d but I've used arcGIS a while back.
I have existing roads, towns etc data that are already set to UTM 17. I want to import ascii point coordinates (from a comma delimited file) into the file. I can import the ascii coordinates as points fine (easting and northing), however the points come in as the absolute coordinates rather than geometric coordinates. I already set the files for right geographic projections. Beyond manually inputing the coordinates into the coordinate tracker, is there a way to import the coordinates form the file set for the geometric coordinates?

Apr 12, 2013A co-worker had a copy of a handy little guide called "Lynn Allen's Tips and Tricks for AutoCAD 2012". I think she (or another co-worker) got it at AU.
On page 33 under the heading "DGN Support", it says the following:
Complex linetypes are now maintained! To ensure that custom linetypes are displayed, copy the corresponding .rsc files to the support path...........
The way I read that, Acad will read the RSC file and display linetypes from it. Is that true? Does it only work when I'm looking at a DGN file? Or can I use the RSC file with my dwg file? I'd test it myself but I don't have access to any MicroStation files.
If Acad can read the RSC file directly, then I don't see why the linetypes can't be used in a dwg file. AND that being the case, I also don't see why an Autodesk product can't be created to WRITE these RSC files. As far as I'm concerned MicroStation's custom linestyles is so much more advanced than Acad's linetypes.
Revit :: Import Architecture RVT In MEP
Feb 19, 2012I used Revit Architecture to build up a project. It is now ready for all further task you can do with Revit MEP, like electricity and plumping.
I tried serveal ways to import the rvt file in Revit MEP. If I just open my Revit Arcitecutre file I have all my views and cuts but I can't install any tube or wire because the view is missing where I should see it.
The other way I tried is to open a new MEP project by using the standart template and link it with my Revit Arcitecture file. That works, but I only get a shape of my project and it is really hard to navigate without all the views I was used to in the Revit Arcitecutre.
How can I use MEP on my current project by keeping the views and structure of my Revit Arcitecture file.

Is there a way to convert KML into DWG/DXF files that can be opened? I can live without the heights being part of it as I can just refer back to my Google Earth to get that information, I just need the lines themselves.

May 18, 2011I had received a DWG file from my associate through e-mail which she had saved from AutoCAD as a 2007 year format.
I have AutoCAD Architecture 2011 and should be able to open any DWG file, correct? But I can't seem to. When I try to open it, a message pops up that says, "Drawing file is not valid". I have gone into the file properties and I have full accessibility to the file and the "read only" option is unchecked.

AutoCAD Architecture :: 3D Printing - Exporting To STL File?
Aug 16, 2012I am trying to get my first 3d print of a model and am having problems getting it into a format that the printing service can use. I've read up and attempted stlout, 3dprint, and export commands to no avail. I get the message that the objects need to be 3dsolids or watertight meshes.
After reading all the hype on 3d printing and being very excited about it, I"ve got to say that I'm a bit overwhelmed with the steps it appears one has to take to get an architectural model to print.
The model is made with aca 2012.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Can't Open Particular DWG File - Out Of Memory
May 10, 2012I've recieved a drawing from a customer and i'm unable to load it. When I open it, it asks to be recovered because of a damaged file. I hit the recover button and starts to load the file but after a while comes up with an error saying "FATAL ERROR: Out of memory - shutting down." Is the file just corrupted? My memory isn't even being used. Specs are i7-2600 3.40 ghz, 16gb ram and sli nvidia 570 gtx cards.
I've also tried the recover command, but it did the same thing.
There was a second drawing they sent me too, but it comes up with a fatal error 0x0050. I've attached both drawings.

In the past, on other projects with this client, they have altered our AutoCAD drawing files and reissued them out to bid. This is becoming a legal matter, but I am asking, is there a way that the AutoCAD drawing file can be saved that will 'lock' the file so that it can not be altered?

Nov 11, 2011If I use the CAD 'Plot Stamp' while converting a drawing to a PDF file (DWG to PDF), everything works as it should.
If I try to print it out on paper, it doesn’t work at all, even though it looks ok in the preview (however, if while in the preview, I try to zoom in on the Plot Stamp to see what's actually written, it disappears). Instead of being 'BR vertical' it's 'BR horizontal', It prints mostly out of the printable area and the text is a smaller size than specified.
What's the best way to get a high quality PDF from a DWG?We find the quality from the 'DWG to PDF' printer to be a bit disappointing. If we 'Publish to PDF' from a 'Sheet Set', it's a bit better...
AutoCAD Architecture :: Drawing File Is Not Valid
Mar 27, 2013Our staff can not get this file open. It says "Drawing file is not valid". It was emailed to them. He tried sending over as a 2000 drawing then tried it as 2007. We have AutoCad 2010 and 13 available to us, but no luck.
"Attached is a 2007 version of the same dwg. We have an Autodesk dwg viewer that we use here when we are sent a dwg and so far I have been able to open every file I have sent you with our viewer, so I am not sure why it is not working on your end. What I did though was opened the drawing in our autodesk viewer and then saved it from that."

Jul 28, 2011I'm using AutoCAD Architecture 2012. I cannot get the darn thing to create an Etransmit file. I'm sure it is some setting that I'm missing, but for the life of me I can not find it! It runs everything just like it is creating the file, but when everything is done, there is no file. I thought maybe it is creating the file somewhere that I didn't tell it to create the file at, but I can't find the file any where on my computer.
what I'm doing now is closing out 2012 and opening the file(s) in 2011 and creating the etransmit there, because it works. Is this a bug for 2012?

Aug 12, 2013Had file "weirdness" when users place "odd" characters in filenames?For example, I have several users that use the ampersand sign in the file name as in: FF&E HT.dwg.
I'm wondering if this causes an issue with the corresponding XML file since the ampersand is kind of a special character.
These users were able to open different versions of the "same" file at various points in its generation. One was the current version, another was several days old and the third version was a month or so old. Each time the file was opened (on the same day and time), the users did not get a warning stating the file was already opened and they both opened the file from Project Navigator.
We are currently running AutoCAD Architecture 2011.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Drawing File Is Not Valid
Jan 3, 2012I have a whole folder of drawings that if I try to access I get "Drawing file is not valid".
I have read a bunch of posts and have tried the following:
1. I have tried to insert the drawing into a new blank drawing but nothing happens
2. I have searched all of our drives for BAK and SV$ files and have found none
3. This past summer our team did a clean-up of the drives and deleted all of the BAK files
4. I have tried to copy, send, or print the file and get the same error message
This file contains the base plans for a building we have that is XREFed into our furniture, electrical, security, etc. plans.

May 31, 2011Is there an option to eliminate AutoCAD from automatically inserting the layout tab name into the file name when creating a PDF? Once upon a time it would only use the file name (i.e. A-101). Now it uses "A-101_Layout1" (or whatever the layout name is) by default. I either have to live with it or manually change each file name during the process of creating the PDF or after it's been created.
