AutoCAD Architecture :: Drawing Lines Don't Turn Negative With Hardware Acceleration On
Jun 6, 2012
This problem has bugged me for several versions. I'm using 2012 at the moment as I haven't wanted to get into the fiasco of a new drawing version with 2013.Anyway, the image below really tells the story for me:
You can see the behavior of the crosshairs overlapping a drawing line with Hardware Acceleration On and Off. It's always been handy to have the drawing lines or crosshair go to the "negative" color when they overlap. However, with Acceleration ON, that behavior goes away entirely. This happens on every machine we have. It's not isolated to one machine or video card. In fact, on this same machine I have had this happen with two entirely different video cards.
So, I have to choose...hardware acceleration or overlapping negative colored lines.

I am setting up a table to automatically calculate plumbing fixtures based on occupancy count.
The problem I have is creating a formula for plumbing fixtures for B occupancy where toilets are required at 1 per 25 for the first 50 occupants and thereafter 1 per 50 occupants. (International Building Code)
A simple formula for 1 at 25 would be "value/25" whereby the value would be a cell content (occupancy number).
Taking this further with a formula like "(value-50)/50+(value/25)" works fine as long as the value (occupancy) is greater than 50.
If the value is less than 50 the first part of the formula (value-50)/50 creates a negative result.
Is there a way to convert a negative result of the first part of the formula to a 0 (zero)
I know this is possible in Excel with the "max" function

Im trying to create a material for glass balustrade that will elevate and show outline but not block what is behind. Useful for shr screens (show tiling, taps etc) balustrade for balconies, stairs etc.
I have balustrade I'm working on now using a railing object. There are no posts at all and I'm using dynamic posts with a nothing material to cut up the guardrail material into pieces. So need the posts to disappear but stil cut the glass into sections. Also in elevation, need to see the glass outline but also to show what's behind. Normal glass in elevation rightly blocks what's behind (inside).
There is a problem with how materials operate. You are unable to use an object/material combination as a negative. For e.g. assigning my posts above a material that has 3d body turned off negates it impacting the glass (ie no longer cuts) so I have to 'see' the gaps otherwise the glass goes straight thru. The post has to be directly inline with the glass to cut (fair enough) but turning the 'gap' material 3D body display off and the railing def no longer sees the post cutting the glass just because 3d body is turned off in the material display. (not sure why these have to be linked. If glass has frame (shr screen) then it's ok. just turn off glass but if in the case of glass balustrade you need to be able to do it.
Im thinking maybe using another object rather than railing, like a curtain wall and having a very small width frame using normal glass material that will elevate and another glass material that will disappear.

When I work in modelspace, the lines on layer 0 turn white after I have done some text editing and then panned away. The only way to get them back to default colors is to switch to paperspace and then come back to modelspace. It is only changing the display color on the monitor. The colors are still set in the layer controls. I am using Architecture 2009.

I'm a right clicker. Contextual ribbon tabs pop up every time I touch an object. They require additional clicks and mouse movements. I don't want them. How can I stop them? I just want the default ribbon. I was able to do this on a previous version but now I forget how. Version upgrades do not bode well for old people.

I create MFC enclosures with various gasses. These enclosures can be quite large with three or more gas types. I create view representations with gas name and color the flow path for each gas in the named view. Is there a way to turn on all the colored overrides in one view to see all the various colors at once? I thought MASTER would show all colors but it does not. If not the only way would be to create the view of all gasses on and re-do all the work from all the prevous views.

At my company when producing drawings for manufacture we require a sheet for any steel profiles to be cut!..We do this by selecting the assembly from base view, hitting model view tab, selecting presentation and choosing the relevant profile from the drop down!
Once the profile is placed, we highlight the view and hit the parts list tab which obviously creates a parts list, but for the whole assembly, we then have to edit the parts list by turning off the visibility of the lines of all the parts which are not relevant!!...as you can imagine this is quite a laborious task if you have 50 different profiles.
The reason for this is to show the qty, steel grade and part number to the suppliers. My question is, any code that will take the lines of the parts list that are not relevant to the selected view and turn the visibility of those lines off?

I have a rather weird problem. I am using .dxf files as digital overlays on a new optical comparator we recently purchased. The problem is, the cad files we used to create our old mylar overlays is both 3d and comprised of text/curves/dimensions. I figured out the flattening and turning the text into lines and curves, but I cannot find a method to change the dimension graphics (profile boxes, length dimensions, and angle dimensions) into lines and curves.
When I import them into the comparator program only the lines and curves can be displayed on the comparator. Is there any way to flatten and make all of the dimension graphics lines and curves?

Is there a way without deleting the part from the assembly to make said part not show up in the drawing? I need to be able to do this in the model and not in the drawing. Suppressing the part create a level of detail, but I would have to create new views in the drawing and I don't want to do that.
The part is used in some cases, but not in others so I don't want to delete it from the assembly.

I'm designing a badge for my cricket team and have created a design using a shield shape which I've divided into four quarters with a horizontal and a vertical line. How do I split the shape so I can colour the individual quarters? There are similar areas of the design made up of lines that I want to colour individually. I guess the question is, if I created a square shape by drawing four separate lines, how do I join the lines in order to fill the square shape with colour?

I am having a problem with moving a line that is attached at a corner to another, as it moves that line as if I clicked on the intersecting snap point at the end of both lines and dragged it. I want to move or copy the line away, but it somehow is attached to the other, and is quite annoying and impossible to work with without deleting and redrawing lines. I've tried exploding them, but they are not joined in that way, and are not "grouped" (I don't think, because when I did "group" them, it made a box around them and highlighted both lines at the same time). A symbol shows that is two boxes, one an outline and the other solid which is up and to the right. I can't figure out what mode it is in to turn it off!

How to get the Axis line on a steel Member (W18) to show when creating 2D Elevation or Section of It. I have been able to create center lines by placing a 3d grid and then changing from No Plot and it creates center lines on the elevation. But all jobs do not require a 3d grid so I would like the axis line form the member to show in the 2d elevation.

It appears to be an error with swing lines for double doors when an elevation or section view from an AEC model is generated. Only one out of the two door leafs shows swing lines in any event. Could this be a legacy error after the hotfix re: hidden line projection error on elevations and sections? I applied the AecCore.crx fix yesterday and then became aware of the problem with the swing lines.

I have checked my layers and the dimension lines are not on defpoints, in fact they are on layer 0. I have tried to create a new layer and it still does not show up in the work space, let alone when i try to print it.
