AutoCAD Architecture :: Attribute With Background Mask

Dec 16, 2011

Is it possible to have attributes (annotative text) with a background mask in a block? Our intention is to include text to describe the status (demolition, existing or new) of various equipment.

The drawings themselves (lines, hatchs, etc.) would not be scalable or annotative, but we do want the text included to be annotative.

We normally include a hatch behind text or drawing elements (with a 'ByBlock' color) so we can 'manually' give it a background color of our liking and then scale the block in question. This way, the 'manual background' automatically scales with it.

However, with the annotative way of doing things, our solutions doesn't work anymore because blocks like these ones are now insert at a 1:1 scale and the text included will scale accordingly. I'm looking for a way to add a background mask to an annotative attribute.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Background Mask (Text Mask) Editable In 2012?

how to manipulate the size of the wipeout for a text mask.

Simply selecting the masked text in C3D 2011 provided pick boxes at the four corners of the wipeout, making it very easy to manipulate the size of the wipeout box.  I'm hoping to do the same in C3D 2012, but the wipeout seems to be treated like a block and lacks the pick boxes.A system variable maybe?

AutoCAD LT :: Multiline Attribute Mask With Multileader

Feb 10, 2010

I've created tags with text below them. The text is a multline attribute. I save the block with the background mask on.

When I add these blocks to multileader styles, that setting is lost and even after creating a multileader, editing the multiline attribute and turning the mask back on, the setting will not save for some reason.

One very noticeable affect of losing the background mask is that when one is editing the multiline attribute AutoCAD leaves the original text visible and overlaying the text that is updating. This makes it nearly impossible to see the edits one is making. One has to set the background mask every time they edit that multileader if they need to change the text in the mutliline attribute.

Using AutoCAD LT 2010.

I'm getting a little frustrated with the multiline attribute. Every time a place it in a block and save the file, the tag moves to the left when I re-open the block file or try to insert the block in another file. how to stop the tag from moving? FYI Locking the tags position makes no difference.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Room Tag Attribute Visibility

Mar 18, 2013

I have received drawings from someone else that utilize what I believe to be custom room tags. The tags consist of multiple lines of information e.g. Number, name line 1, name line 2, floor, base, north, south, east, west, occupancy, prog area, room area, etc.  As of right now there is information in all of the data boxes as seen in the properties box.

However the only information shown in the drawing area is Number, name, and room area.  What I would like to know is how would i keep the room area information, but not show it in the drawing area? Basically I would like to be able to make different pieces of information visible or invisible.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Attribute Block Text To Layer 0?

Apr 1, 2013

I am ACA 2013.  I received a file from an equipment company and has these blocks that are huge in file size, so I am cleaning things up on them.  Their blocks have multiple layers in them with different colors and linetypes.  I see the setbylayer command and it works, but not all the time.  On some of the blocks, they have attribute text in them.  the individual lines of the attribute are on different layers.  I want to keep the info, but set all to layer 0.  then I can move it to the block to the layer I want.

another question, is there a way to make an outline of a block?  Some of these blocks are so detailed that I want to make a simple outline and then delete the block.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Attribute Info In Blocks Not Showing Up?

Jan 4, 2011

I have stored a few blocks in our library in 2D.  They contain attributes such as detail numbers, elevation/sheet numbers, and side attributes for keynotes.  But whenever I drag the blocks in now, instead of prompting for the information to be filled out for the attributes it only asks for insertion point and scale and that's it.  it inserts the block but no text shows up, not even a default text.  There has to be a setting to turn off or on.

AutoCAD Architecture :: True Text In Attribute Definition

Oct 4, 2011

I am attempting to create my first Title Block with attribute definition.  I am having trouble finding a way to use True Text.  My goal is to use Arial Black.  The Attribute Definition window provides only 3 text options: Pres, Notes, and Standard.  Adjusting the Width Factor does not yield a text that will replace Arial Black.  Is there a way to import true text into CAD for this purpose?

AutoCAD Architecture :: Attribute Definition - Prefix Refers To Textwidth

Apr 27, 2011

Within a block I have a attribute definition and a textfield which refers to the value of the attribute definition.

The value of the attribute definition displays neatly as it's supposed to but the textfield gets the prefix  w0.6000;

This Prefix refers to the textwidth I know that much but I can't get rid of it!

The peculiar thing is that if I don't use the "multiple lines" option in the attribute definition the problem disappears.

I really need to use this option because I wanna apply a textmask to it....

AutoCAD Architecture :: How To Access And Edit Attribute Data Of Sub Blocks Inside MVB

Mar 26, 2011

Seems like Multi-View Blocks are like that hot red-head in high school that you really want to get to know until you get to know them.

I made a bunch of blocks for my electrical plans. Annotative symbols for plan view, 3D blocks for model view, and elevation blocks for elevations. I then started creating the MVBs.

Upon insertion the annotative blocks appear super small and the model view blocks scale way up. The model view blocks are not annotative and are not supposed to scale at all. It seems MVBs see any block inside that is annotative as an indication that the entire MVB shall be annotative. Fustrated, I finally found a work-around that is a bit half-arsed:

I made another block as a sort of holder for the annotative symbols that was set to not be annotative and inserted that into the MVB. VOILA! the MVB itself doesn't scale, but the annotative symbol inside the non-annotative block does. This works fine except for one caveat: I can't edit attributes that are in blocks inside of blocks. If I made another block to use in the MVB for the attributes, it would work, so long as I don't make it annotative, which isn't what I want.

So, A) is there a better work-around than the block-in-a-block-in-a-multi-view-block method, or B) Is there a way to access and edit attribute data of sub-blocks inside a MVB?

Maybe my next thread will be about red-headed Multi-View Blocks with carpets that match the drapes.

We are printing to HP/GL-2 using HP drivers. I'm sure it's a print driver thing.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Background Mask Gone Wrong?

Jun 24, 2013

My background masks is displaying a border (which is not desired) and they are not masking the backound but instead are masking the text.  What gives? (see attached)

This issue is specific to one drawing.  It seems to effect all background masks regardless of style.  They are set to use drawing background color. And border option is set to false in the label styles.

The last items I worked on in the last sesson where to create a corridor and an intersection.

Also, why the pen table is printing correctly that would work as well. The attached image was printed using a black/white pen file. Go figure.

AutoCad 2D :: Background Mask Not Working Over Viewports

Nov 12, 2010

How come my background masks on text no longer mask the background?!

I have looked done new drawings and it works. It also works in the drawing in question but only over items in paperspace, it does not work over the viewports.

If you select the text you can see that the mask is there.

I tried draw order but everytime I did it everything always seemed to back to "back" even if I just changed it to "front"

Another draftee had worked on these drawings but I doubt he would have sabotaged them (and he wouldnt know how..)

I have seen this happen randomly before.

AutoCad :: Multileader Background Mask Option

Sep 13, 2013

I can't find a 'background mask' on/off toggle in the 'Multileader Style Manager' in AutoCAD 2013. In the 'Dimension Style Manager' you can easily add a background to dimension text in there but it doesn't seem to be an option for a multileader style. Did AutoCAD actually miss this?!? If so that is a huge inconsistency. I want to have a multileader style preset in a template with the background text masks on. I hope it's not something that a user needs to go and first do their multileader, then afterwards have to go and manually turn the mask on via the properties pane.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Background Mask Dots

Mar 10, 2010

When printing a plan with a background mask, the mask shows as a bunch of ting gray dots. Also we have a plot style, using STB, that is supposed to print white, but it too prints as a light gray hatch. It is not that big of a deal until we scan to run sets. The dots and hatch get picked up more intensely by the scanner and it looks like hell, a big gray background. It happens on label masks too: contours, structures, etc. Wipeouts are okay, but those are not used much anymore. I am printing to an OCE TDS600 with current drivers, I have even tried older drivers. I also tried printing to DWF then to the printer and got the same result. Printing to DWF actually added little gray plus signs for the wipeout. The scanner is a OCE TDS600, and we plot with the grays & lines setting.

I have heard the dots are unavoidable, but I really don't want to believe that because it makes our plans look like crap.
