AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Background Mask Used With MText?
Apr 9, 2009Any way to change the default settings for the background mask used with Mtext?
View 9 RepliesAny way to change the default settings for the background mask used with Mtext?
View 9 RepliesI am trying to add an MTEXT background mask in vba I know it may be easy to do in lisp but I already have a working vba code for creating the MTEXT just need to add the background mask into the text.
all the codes I can find in the internet are doing it in lisp.
Is there a way to change the defaults?
Presently, the Fill Color defaults to "Red" and I have to check "Use drawing background color" every time. Certainly there must be a way to change this?
While I am at it, how about line space distance? Ditto on default justification, height, etc., etc.?
How to make a multileader style with automatic background masks? How to select all the multileaders in a drawing (via a script or macro) and turn on the background masks?
I know I can quick select the mleaders in a drawing, but I'd rather just run a script or macro to correct the mleaders.
If I create one MTEXT object with the Background Mask set to Yes, then COPY it to several locations, and lastly edit the text for each one, does the width of the bounding box have to be adjusted for the width on each individual peice of MTEXt, or is there an "autofit" option?
The Background Masks are either too narrow or too wide on the copied items.
I have set mtext (with background mask on) to the foreground (using draw order: front, and draw order: above objects) but those settings do not 'stick' and often have to go back and reset all those values over again.
I've also tried using Draw Order on the objects under the text (draw order: behind) which also results inthe text randomly behind in front of or behind objects.
Is there a way to set mtext to be in the foreground permanently and not have to go back and mess with Draw Order all the time?
I have this problem with my MText Background Mask. You can take a look at the two attachments. Each one gives me the same issue, but with different MText objects. I'm also plotting to a KIP5000 and a SHARP All in One, and I get similar results, except in some of the MText, they come out in a random color as well. The pc3's for all devices are set to Lines Merge.
The text is actually part of an xref file, and if I plot directly from the file they are in, I have no problem. I did a test where I copied the text into the sheet file, and got similar results when the text is in modelspace, and I got my intended results when the text is in paperspace. Now, this is the way I want to go...but the company standard is to draw it all in the xref, so I have to figure out how to get around this.
I've gone back and forth with the Merge/Overwrite options in the pc3, and when plotting to PDF and SHARP, I get the correct output with Overwrite, but the KIP just completely ignores the background mask with Overwrite.
how to manipulate the size of the wipeout for a text mask.
Simply selecting the masked text in C3D 2011 provided pick boxes at the four corners of the wipeout, making it very easy to manipulate the size of the wipeout box. I'm hoping to do the same in C3D 2012, but the wipeout seems to be treated like a block and lacks the pick boxes.A system variable maybe?
Where I can get started with a lisp routine that will apply or remove from a selection of text objects (or MLeaders), a background mask set to standard 1.5 coverage; fill color set to background?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy background masks is displaying a border (which is not desired) and they are not masking the backound but instead are masking the text. What gives? (see attached)
This issue is specific to one drawing. It seems to effect all background masks regardless of style. They are set to use drawing background color. And border option is set to false in the label styles.
The last items I worked on in the last sesson where to create a corridor and an intersection.
Also, why the pen table is printing correctly that would work as well. The attached image was printed using a black/white pen file. Go figure.

I can't get background mask to work on one dwg
I can go into another drawing on my machine and it works just fine
it looks like its working until I zoom in or out then it doesn't work at all
Is it a know issue that when you have a General Note style with a Dragged State where the Display is set to Stacked Text. If Background Mask is set to True. The Mask does not encompass the whole text.

I wish i could plot label styles (pipe network labels, point labels, etc.) that contain background mask with the line merge setting ON. Mleaders with background mask plot fine with line merge on, but any intelligent object style containing a background mask will not 'mask' when plotting with line merge on.
View 3 Replies View RelatedNoticed that applying background masking to Dimension text, Mtext, and Mleader text is done three different ways in Properties? I wonder why they just don't all have the same properties and the same UI for accessing those properties.
Mleader = There is a dropdown box named "Background Mask" with two choices: Yes & No.Dimension = There is a dropdown box named "Fill Color" with color choices, where "Background" = masking.Mtext = There is a field labeled "Background Mask" with an ellipses button [...] that opens a popup box to set options.
I cannot get my contour label to mask the contour line that it sits on. I have no problems creating contour labels for my surface (whether using single, multiple, or multiple at interval options). I have set my contour labeling defaults to not display the contour label line, as well as set Label Mask Type to Contour Line Only. Under contour label style under Layout>Border>Background Mask, this is set to True.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just finished installing AutoCAD C3D 2013. And my drawings and designs were done on C3D 2011 AutoCAD, but the problem now is when i open my drawings with C3d 2013 all the text that has background in it shows black in a paper space but on model space is owk, is there a way of resolving this without goiung through all the text settings.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on Civil3d 2010. I have a drawing where i have background masks on most of my text - everything works great. Then I did a "Save As" to give the drawing a new name. After working in it for a day or so, I noticed that all of the text masks don't show. When I hover over mtext (or blocks with mtext), a border shows around the text (only when hovering). But bottom line is the background mask doesn't show at all or print. The original drawing is still fine.
I've checked and this has nothing to do with line merge in the pc3 file etc.
I am working in Civil 3d 2010. I have annotative text and when I apply background mask the width is huge. Is there a system variable or something else that I need to change so the background will only be masked behind the text and not additional width?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhere is the setting for the sample line label background mask? I have some sample lines that will be plotted on top of an aerial photo, and the black box background looks terrible. I'd like to turn it off. I found the contour label background fine and I switched those to False without much of a problem, but I can't seem to locate the ones for the sample lines.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTry plotting to a PC3 format with Line Merged option on under the properties for the plotter. Note how the contours continue through the text.
Try plotting with Lines Overwrite. Note how the contours don't go through text.
Any users out there saying they cannot use the "Lines Overwrite" option and need something else so they can still use the Lines Merged option and have their contour text looking good. How to get this in a SP or HF soon. Otherwise it may be deferred to 2010 and so on and so forth.
The background mask does not align with text in curve labels with the "allow curve text" set to true. See Attached.
I found old posts with this problem for version 2009 and older. Is it still a problem in 2011/12/13?

I have numerous MText paragraphs that I need to combine into a single piece of MText. I want the paragraphs preserved in the final piece. I've found some routines that can combine pieces of MText but I don't know if they preserve the paragraphs.I have DotSoft Toolpac but it doesn't seem up to the task. C

My company is switching from ctb files to stb files. With the ctb file, we make concrete hatch with two layers. A top layer with the concrete hatch pattern and a background layer with a solid hatch patern. The ctb file concrete plots the concete hatch black and the solid background hatch light gray. I am using civil 3d 2013 and the hatch allows a seperate background color mask. I am trying to make all my concrete layers (Top of Curb, Curb Flowline, etc.) a certain color scheme, i.e. shades of green. I would like my on screen concrete hatch patern to be a green color with a gray background, but plot the concrete hatch black with a gray background. I can not figure out how to do this without making two layers. Is there a way to use one layer and utilize the background color mask to show on screen green and gray, but plot black and gray?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a routine, developed for me through this forum, that selects text or mtext, converts to mtext if not already, and puts a background mask with 1.1 border. I was using it fine in Map 3D 2007, but have recently switched to Civil 3D 2012 where it does not work. I get this error message:
; error: no function definition: VLAX-ENAME->VLA-OBJECT
Why does this not work in 2012? How to get it to work?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using background masking in Mtext to cover up the mechanical piping in our drawings. It works fine in AutoCAD, but we convert the drawing to pdf and then send the pdf to the printer to make prints. Now
the background masking is not working. You get a line going through the text.
I'm looking for the best way to create some sort of background mask in my blocks.
I'm using blocks as my mechanical symbols, to be inserted into my piping and instrumentation diagrams.
The diagrams contain several lines, and in the past the company would simply trim out the lines around the symbols. I would like to stop trimming the lines by simply putting an invisible hatch/mask around my blocks.
I have multiple singular text objects on my screen and I want to convert them to mtext so I can use the Background Mask option within mtext on my drawing. how to quickly select all the text and convert it to mtext without it combinin ginto 1 mtext?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIt's kind of hard to see on this photograph, but there is shading that occurs to the left and top of the MTEXT on plots only. This happens about 80% of the time, with no rhyme or reason as to why it does or doesn't....
We are printing to HP/GL-2 using HP drivers. I'm sure it's a print driver thing.
