AutoCAD 2013 :: Default Mtext Background Mask
Mar 4, 2013
Is there a way to change the defaults?
Presently, the Fill Color defaults to "Red" and I have to check "Use drawing background color" every time. Certainly there must be a way to change this?
While I am at it, how about line space distance? Ditto on default justification, height, etc., etc.?

How to make a multileader style with automatic background masks? How to select all the multileaders in a drawing (via a script or macro) and turn on the background masks?
I know I can quick select the mleaders in a drawing, but I'd rather just run a script or macro to correct the mleaders.

If I create one MTEXT object with the Background Mask set to Yes, then COPY it to several locations, and lastly edit the text for each one, does the width of the bounding box have to be adjusted for the width on each individual peice of MTEXt, or is there an "autofit" option?
The Background Masks are either too narrow or too wide on the copied items.

I have set mtext (with background mask on) to the foreground (using draw order: front, and draw order: above objects) but those settings do not 'stick' and often have to go back and reset all those values over again.
I've also tried using Draw Order on the objects under the text (draw order: behind) which also results inthe text randomly behind in front of or behind objects.
Is there a way to set mtext to be in the foreground permanently and not have to go back and mess with Draw Order all the time?

I have this problem with my MText Background Mask. You can take a look at the two attachments. Each one gives me the same issue, but with different MText objects. I'm also plotting to a KIP5000 and a SHARP All in One, and I get similar results, except in some of the MText, they come out in a random color as well. The pc3's for all devices are set to Lines Merge.
The text is actually part of an xref file, and if I plot directly from the file they are in, I have no problem. I did a test where I copied the text into the sheet file, and got similar results when the text is in modelspace, and I got my intended results when the text is in paperspace. Now, this is the way I want to go...but the company standard is to draw it all in the xref, so I have to figure out how to get around this.
I've gone back and forth with the Merge/Overwrite options in the pc3, and when plotting to PDF and SHARP, I get the correct output with Overwrite, but the KIP just completely ignores the background mask with Overwrite.

It's kind of hard to see on this photograph, but there is shading that occurs to the left and top of the MTEXT on plots only. This happens about 80% of the time, with no rhyme or reason as to why it does or doesn't....
We are printing to HP/GL-2 using HP drivers. I'm sure it's a print driver thing.

We are using Autocad 2014, we recently changed our dimension style fill color to background in lieu of none. This way when we are labeling components on our drawings our text would be to the front and the lines would be to the back. Before we would trim all lines around text which was tedious. We have lines merge on which is a must for our firm. When we plot or create pdf files, there are random gray dotted lines either to the left or left and top of the text where the background mask box is located (see attachment). It is not every dimension or multiline leader text. We plot to an Oce Plotwave 300 (printer driver ocegdi11.hdi). The lines are more faint on the plots than the pdf file, but are on both.
Also tried plotting a pdf file within autocad with the dwg to pdf.pc3 (printer driver pdfplot11.hdi) with lines merge on and it created the lines also. If I use the adobe pdf (printer driver gdiplot.hdi) it did not put the lines. Adobe pdf will not work for us because it is set to lines overwrite instead of lines merge. When I changed the adobe pdf to lines merge it created a filled color region behind my dimensions and masked text. I contacted AcroPlot which is the program we use to create pdf files and they said it is a bug in Autocad, but thought it was fixed in newer versions. I have tried changing the dimtfillclr to 255, but this did not work for us.

how to manipulate the size of the wipeout for a text mask.
Simply selecting the masked text in C3D 2011 provided pick boxes at the four corners of the wipeout, making it very easy to manipulate the size of the wipeout box. I'm hoping to do the same in C3D 2012, but the wipeout seems to be treated like a block and lacks the pick boxes.A system variable maybe?

Is there a way to set the default text size when using mtext with an annotative text style?
I have an annotative text style I use for everything. I have the height set to 0 in the style. In MTEXT the height always defaults to 1/4" which I never use. Is there a way to make it default to 1/8" text? It is annoying to have to have to change it every single time I use mtext.
The height is usually the paper text height but sometimes within a viewport the height is the model space height instead of the paper height. I don't know why it is different in some viewports but I would like to have it consistant.

I have a routine, developed for me through this forum, that selects text or mtext, converts to mtext if not already, and puts a background mask with 1.1 border. I was using it fine in Map 3D 2007, but have recently switched to Civil 3D 2012 where it does not work. I get this error message:
; error: no function definition: VLAX-ENAME->VLA-OBJECT
Why does this not work in 2012? How to get it to work?

I have been using background masking in Mtext to cover up the mechanical piping in our drawings. It works fine in AutoCAD, but we convert the drawing to pdf and then send the pdf to the printer to make prints. Now
the background masking is not working. You get a line going through the text.

If I put a single line text and use it several times and then select them all I can change them in the properties all at ones. How do I do that with Mtext, if I select all and go to the properties they are opened one by one and you can change that.
Is there another way to do that as a single line text with the same.

I am trying to add labels everywhere on my drawing to show the properties of my objects i.e. lines. (But the thing is, I need static text). This is because I need to be able to "distort" the drawing for legibility purposes but retaining the label information. This is a common drafting task in surveying. Solution A - add the labels and then convert then into text. (I don't think Autocad allows this) Solution B - add the mtext via script, but so far I am stuck on the text editor.
Here's what I have done so far. mtext 100,100 <-- I'll need to come up with some calculation to automatically place the text in the middle of the line. j mc r 96d08'27" 130,100 "186° 08' 27""" <-- how to you add the content of the mtext object?

why when I rotate the mtext to be isometric in this drawing, the multiple lines become offset.
I created the mtext orthagonally like normal and used the rotate command 30 or -30 angles. Is there some other type of isometric rotate or something.

I am using LT 2013. I cannot figure out how to match properties for text. I click on the 2 options and the box witdth, orientation, layer will match but not the style or font. I have tried using Quick Properties to select but have not had any success with this tool. Here is what I did:
Created a style and named it Arial.
Open the Quickselect box.
Apply to : click the box and select the various mtext objects.
Object Type: mText
Properties: Style
Operator: Select All
Include in New Selection Set is checked.
I click Ok and the objects are selected.
Next I go to the Properties Manager and change the style to the one I want to use, bu the text does not change. If Idoubleclick a text object it shows the correct style, but not the correct font. What have I missed doing?

I used the CHANGESPACE command today to bring a piece of mtext from model space to paper space. I had a background mask on the mtext and when it came into paper space, the height of the text box displayed right but the width stayed the same as it was in model space. I played around with column settings and also the WYSIWYG in editor settings. Nothing seemed to make difference. What am I missing? Using autocad 2014

I have an older drawing that was created by somebody else that is chock full of bad CAD. I have to add some leaders to some text and I'm using the "QLeader" command. For some odd reason when I implement "QLATTACH" it won't attach the leader to the text.
Yes, I could recreate the text with the Qleader command but I'm trying to avoid having to do that because there is a lot of text. I'm not a fan of the rigidness of Mleader either so that is not an option.

When I create Mtext with a Bullet list, I want to change the bullet to something of my own choosing, instead of the blakc dot. I've been looking into this before, but couldn't find a solution. Some time back, I received a drawing from someone else. See attachment. It contains a piece of Mtext wich uses an alternative bullet, in this case a hyphen. So it CAN be done. Only thing is, I can't figure out HOW they did it?

I have made a dynamic block with attribute text. Everything works fine except the text comes out as larger than the mtext that it was created from. The text height & the width factor are the same since i created the attribute default by copying the mtext. when i close the block the text appears longer than the mtext it was created from.

Is there a way to create an attribute or MTEXT in a block where part of it is User defined and the other part is constant?
e.g.
"AUTOCAD = 12345 LAYERS"
Where "AUTOCAD =" and "LAYERS" are constant
and
"12345" is the user defined part.
The reason why I would like this is because i want to be able to Middle Center Justify the text and if i were to create 3 separate texts then it wouldn't be good (2 texts and 1 attdef)
